New Signing!!!

Another central midfielder (who can also play on the right!) will be signing for us in the next few days, possibly in time for Saturday!

Played under Bateman at Hemel!

Well,I did mention a few days ago that we were a bit thin on cover for Steve Sinclair,so I'm glad this could be rectified,if true.

Can't see what we need another centre midfielder for, unless he dribbles and goes past players from the middle of the park.

I wouldn't have thought so,though,as this sort of player appears obsolete in the modern game.

Wouldn't it be nice,CR, if we could find someone reminiscent of a Gary Donellan,Mark Hawthorne or Simon Ullathorne, who can strike a ball cleanly with immense power from moving or dead ball situations.Sometimes I think we want to walk the ball in the net or are too over elaborate by always going down the wing.

However,I don't want to be seen as moaning especially as we're playing some great football,as well as we've ever done under Steve Bateman and long may that continue.

Did think though, that the priority would be to bring in a bigger forward to replace Charlie Mpi. What do you,Cookham Rebel and other fans think?

bit surprised we seemingly are bringing in another midfielder but recently looking at our bench midfield options i havent felt there was many goal options at all so hopefully its a decent attacking midfielder who can chip in with some goals. we have plenty of more defensive options in midfield but not many options to change the game in terms of scoring a goal.

will be interesting to see if we try to replace Mpi. not a massive rush yet as said we could utilise Logie or NBH if it came to it.

If it's the player that has been mentioned to me who is coming in, well let's just say he is top drawer and has played in the football league and some top non league clubs! Scores and creates goals!

3spirit, I don't think the priority is replacing Mpi if I'm honest, we haven't really needed the 4th striker so far and if we need a target man for the last 10-15 minutes of a game well them up goes NBH!

I can appreciate that we can use NBH or Adam Logie upfront,if needed,as you and Mr Rebel say.I would prefer the option of Logie up front,as you know Cookham,as I've advocated that since he arrived and I witnessed his goal ratio last year.He also kicks a ball cleanly and could easily adapt to play there. Nathan on the other hand,I prefer as a defender.Yes you can throw him up front and his sheer size can intimidate opposition defenders but he is very cumbersome and heavy footed, so I couldn't see him solving our forward dilemma ie when Sonner is inevitably suspended.

Some fans go on here about that we don't need a target man and some think we do. I just think we need an alternative to three small forwards. With Charlie we had pace and although, ungainly,he proved that even by being a regular sub,he still offered us a different dimension to our attacking play whenever he came on.

Exciting forwards are hard to come by.Now that the heavier pitches are coming with the weather changing. Perhaps a more orthodox target man wouldn't be such a bad move.

Could be Leon Hibbert? If so, great signing as proved when he scored 3 in 6 games whilst on loan with us and not fully fit. Plus he's a tall and solid player who would be another asset at set pieces.

I don't think Hibbert played under Sterve Bateman at Hemel, that's if CR is correct with his assumption.

Ok I think we can rule Leon Hibbert out! Latest from the Slough Express...

Talking about the midfielder he is set to bring to Holloways Park, Bateman added: “He can play anywhere across the middle but he’s more of a wide player. “He’s someone who is well known to me, I had him at Hemel and he did very well. I’ve had a conversation with him this week and we could have it done by the weekend.”

That is very disappointing but until we get our own ground this is going to be a problem we have. The under 18 set up is fantastic but we need a reserve team so that the fringe players in the first team can get regular football and the under 18's have a stepping stone to the first team.
