FA CARLSBERG VASE Second Round Proper

2-3 Tring Athletic v Haringey Borough

I gather this extract from Haringey Borough's website only tells half, sorry, a quarter of the story:

Having built up a three goal lead by the interval after dominating the first half at Tring Athletic it was predictable that Borough would readily co-operate in turning it into a game of two halves ! Roland Namquita, Richard Worrell and Nick Nicou had done the damage. But within ten minutes of the restart it was 3-2 as a clumsily conceded penalty stoked the fires of the home sides self belief. It was tension all the way after that with Borough just hanging on after being reduced to 10 men by a straight red and Tring also finished a man short although their dismissal came right at the end of normal time. Borough are now in the last 64 with the 3rd Round Draw taking place on Monday 21st November

Saturday 19th November

FA CARLSBERG VASE Second Round Proper

4-2 Long Buckby v Dunstable Town

A report from another's Forum:

Long Buckby 4-2 Dunstable Town

FA Vase 2nd Round

£6 in £1.50 Prog

Att Around 90 or so

Two teams flying high in their respective divisions. Long Buckby have won 14 out of 14 in the league.

First half I felt was a bit disappointing with both teams seeming to give the ball away a lot. Long Buckby went in 2 up though due to two smart finishes, but overall that flattered them. Second half though was much better. Long Buckby scored another two to take a 4-0 lead but the last twenty minutes Dunstable woke up and got two back to set up a bit of a rousing finish.

Ground consists of a small stand half the length of the pitch but the other three sides are flat standing. Car parking was a bit tricky as there were two games of egg chasing going on next door at the same time.

My recent run of goal filled games continues. That is now 34 in my last 5 games

FA CARLSBERG VASE Second Round Proper

2-3 Tring Athletic v Haringey Borough

A report from another's Forum:

THE GRASSROOTS STADIUM, COW LANE

TRING ATHLETIC 2 Haringey Borough 3

FA Vase

Adm. £5, Prog. £1 Tea 50p (in a proper mug!)

Absolutely fantastic day, outstanding match, superb entertainment, excellent journey!!!

Checked my good beer guide beforehand and found also some excellent reviews of the Robin Hood Inn, a Fullers pub offering all 6 of their beers and a great locally sourced menu, it was spot on! Enjoyed the Seafarers Ale and ESB served in a goblet plus award winning Sausages and mash, delicious. Highly recommend you continue the extra few mins walk past Cow Lane to this pub if visiting Tring.

The stadium was almost as I remember it from my last visit 9 years ago, with the exception of the new clubhouse which is very nice indeed. The old vintage wooden stand is still there and the view is far superior to anything Arena could offer! The ground is surrounded by large trees in various shades of orange and brown, plus fields and a Rugby pitch next door.

The first half was one of the best I have seen this season, Haringey played some amazing football and were 3-0 up in no time at all.

But what a turnaround in the second half! Tring finally woke up, had a penalty awarded and pulled it back to 3-2, there then followed some off the ball action, an elbow in the face resulted in a sending off for a Boro player, but strangely no penalty even though the incident occurred in the area? Then a home player was also dismissed for apparently making a meal of another off the ball incident which I did not see myself, nor the referee for that matter, but with home fans shouting a punch had been thrown, it appeared both linesman saw it differently and rightly so according to the Haringey manager who sounded genuine. Boro then held on for a fantastic victory!

Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for a bargain £5.

Just remember your torch for the one mile walk back to Tring station as there are no street lights and it is very rural!

Spoke with John Bacon today and he said they were comfortable in the first half but once the hosts pulled back 2 quick goals after the break they did well to hang on.

Rhodes if you must trawl the internet just to copy fans that actually go and watch games postings from the another Forum at least have the courtesy to include all the South Midlands Reports – what about APL’s posting regarding the Hale Leys United v Prestwood game or BYSCOB Watcher’s report on the Aston Clinton v Buckingham Athletic (both on page one)

Karen – Did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning, I posted the Hale Leys United report on the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup thread and BYSCOB Watcher’s report wasn’t worth posting as it was just a one liner

Division One

4-2 Harpenden Town v St Albans City Reserves

110

http://www.sacfc.co.uk/index.php/news/-latest-reserve-news/1754-birthday-boys-beat-reserves.html

I see that Harpenden Town had a decent crowd on Saturday due to their 120th anniversary:

Harpenden Town had a great day on Saturday 19th November when we celebrated the club's 120th Anniversary. It was successful on and off the pitch as:

The First Team beat St Albans City Reserves 4-2 with a Jimmy Hill hat trick to do the double and leapfrog them into 3rd position in Division One.

120 spectators attended the game, many of them seeing Harpenden Town for the first time.

We had demonstrations from Roundwood Park School Cheerleaders, and St Albans Majorettes & Baton Twirlers.

A huge thank you goes to all of the volunteers, players and people of Harpenden who helped to make the day so successful and enjoyable.

We stuttered at home against them but we were down beyond bare bones and comfortably beat them away in cup again with a much weakened side. Always expect a tough game but they are beatable and you lot have started on fire and form and consistency from the start in this div is key

The same as you we are really struggling to get a defence out at the moment. All of our back four injured 2 hamstring 1 should 1 groin so just a little worried about this coming Saturday. I'm sure you might have figured out we had a slight problem after our result on Saturday. We tried to score more then we conceeded but failed!! It would be nice for once to put out the same team 2 weeks in a row.

Wouldn't it just???? I saw Woody was playing thought he was at Thame now? seen him crop up for Aylesbury FC too and no doubt Bierton and or Bucks CC lol. Had more clubs than Nick Faldo that lad. Just found out our player of the year last year Bobby Cooney CB is out for season. Our casualty list is ridiculous I have never known anything like it!!!! hopefully by Jan we should have most back just need to stay in touch till then, Adam Richmond is signed and available which is massive he just needs match fitness. Game vs Buck Ath sounded like a brilliant one for the neutral.

Whilst I think of it, did you read that Saturday's Bundesliga game between FC Cologne and Mainz had to be called off when the Referee, namely Babak Rafati, tried to commit suicide in his hotel room and a replacement Official could not be found in time before kick off. Have you ever heard of this happening before.
