The Middlesex Premier Cup is a County Cup competition for the Reserve Teams of Senior Clubs (which in Middlesex are defined as those clubs at Step 5 and above) and Intermediate clubs who play at floodlit grounds, such as Staines Lammas, Bedfont Sports, Feltham and Rayners Lane.

The Surrey Premier Cup is run on more or less the same lines.

Bit confused then as we at Westfield are due to be playing Staines Lammas in the 2nd round of the Surrey Intermediate Cup.

How can Lammas enter 2 county cup competitions, or is the MCFA Premier Cup not the Middlesex Premier Cup as Beano suggests?

Does seem a nit strange us playing all reserve sides tho!

Poor goal keepers are just not up to stopping the worldys these days!

Newby left at 3-0? you missed garys goals then...

first an great dink over the keeper one on one and the second run from the half way line and smashed into the top corner!

great strike though mate an yeah i missed garys always the way tho lol

CCL1 sides will always play reserve teams from sides that play at a higher level in the pyramid, if they are county competitions though wont they?

I work for the Middlesex FA, so I can assure you that my description of the Cup is accurate! Staines Lammas "dual-affiliate" to both Middlesex and Surrey FAs (as do Ashford Town (Middlesex), although since the groundshare, Ashford have stopped entering their Reserves into the Surrey Premier Cup) so are entitled to enter the competitions run by both County FAs. Only the "parent" County Cup (in this case, Middlesex) takes priority over League fixtures.

Westfield v Staines Lammas is a Surrey Premier Cup tie according to the Surrey FA website:

Thanks for clearing that up Beano.

How can you be affiliated to 2 FA's though? I would have thought you can only be affiliated to the county that the team is from (or are Staines able to do this as, although they are from Surrey, their groundshare is based in Middlesex)?

Staines is in Middlesex, as is Lammas' HQ, which is in Laleham. The fact that Spelthorne falls under Surrey County Council doesn't make it Surrey under the original County boundaries (which were abolished in 1965 to create Greater London).

There are any number of reasons why a club might dual-affiliate. Lots of clubs affiliate to London FA as well as Surrey/Middlesex/Kent/Essex.

I can't speak for Lammas, but in Ashford's case it's because they were founder members of the Surrey Premier League in 1982 and it was a condition of membership that all clubs had to be affiliated to the Surrey FA. I imagine something similar occurred in their case.

Camberley Town and Bracknell Town (Surrey and Berks & Bucks respectively) both affiliated at youth level to the Hampshire FA for years because they had teams in the North East Hampshire Youth League and, at certain age groups, it was preferable to play in the Hampshire Cup than their "normal" County Cup.
