Guernseys Strongest Team

Recommended Posts

In my opinion ( and its only my opinion, others might disagree ! ), this is our strongest line up -

GK Chris Tardif

LB Jamie Dodd

CB Sam Cochrane ( Captain )

CB Alex Le Prevost

RB Jacques Isabelle

LM Glyn Dyer

CM Ryan Zico Black

CM Angus Mackay

RM Dave Rihoy

F Ross Allen

F Dominic Heaume

We have many other talented players and the players who have come in have done a brilliant job and competition for places is getting better all the time. We have still been winning despite half of our team missing. Of coarse we are going to find it more difficult to win with injuries and sometimes our players can't travel because of work/other commitments.

Our game against Cobham we had 6 of our star players out. These 6 players would be straight on the team sheet without a doubt.

Its a bit like Man Utd being without De Gea, Vidic, Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Nani and Evra. Take these 6 out and Man Utd would find it a lot harder to win.

As i've said in another thread theres no excuses, we should have still have had enough to win against Cobham.

and once again i'd like to say WELL DONE COBHAM ! :)

GD the forum is a bit quiet today after Guernsey's cup exit last night, so no double or treble as a Guernseyrite mantioned on a previous thread!

Also GD there is a contradiction within your comment above : We have been winning despite half of our team missing. Yet the following comment that Guernsey had 6 STAR players out. which would have the same effect as Man Utd losing their STAR players, would suggest that being the reason for losing at Cobham last night would it not? ...............oh I know its only the infamous 'Poxy Cup' !!!

I'm not using having 6 players out as being an excuse, I still said we should have had enough to win, there are no excuses from me.

I wanted to win the cup. I have never called the cup THE POXY CUP that was another forum user, please don't post lies about me, get your facts right.

Has anyone downloaded and played the Football Manager 2012 update that allows you to play as GFC? Link is on the Green Lions forum.

Cups as far as Guernsey are concerned are Expensive loss leaders, unless of course they were to get all home ties.If I had been Guernsey,I would of lost at home to Ash,reason an away tie at Egham must cost them in the region of £3,000.Similarly losing to Cobham has saved them Money in the long term, whether they had an away tie in the next round or not.Mathematics make any Cup they enter not worthwhile Financially.Their aim is to climb the Pyramid, not win Cups surely.

We agree again Smudge whats going on ! lol

I would have still liked to have won the cup but as you say promotion is priority.

I'm still looking forward to playing Egham away though, hopefully a big crowd and hopefully a good game with lots of goals. There's no pressure on us at Egham so hopefully we will perform well.

Losing to a good Step 6 side highlights the problem I believe Guernsey FC will have rising too far up the pyramid relying just on Guernsey based players (their stated aim).

I have no doubt they have a handful of players capable at Step 3, even Step 2, including the backbone of their current "best team" but if the rest are "only" Step 5, at best Step 4 then how are they going to get out of Step 5, let alone Step 4?

If they then recruit several Mainland based players to help their cause, will they still have the support of locals who no doubt believe Guernsey FC should only be for Guernsey based players? If they don't recruit such players will the "Stars" feel they are being held back in their own progression and seek better quality elsewhere?

Having said that, I've really enjoyed watching them in a few games this season and as NG says they are a breath of fresh air both from a playing and management point of view.

Not sure how the club lose out financially as such, when they have a sponsorship deal that covers all these expenses.

It's not quite in the same boat as the majority of the other clubs in both divisions where any sponsor money they do manage to get in covers the cost of the kit for the season and probably not much else. Then I can understand why a club would lose out financially.

I don't know of anyone who's against signing UK based players to better ourselves. There will be a time that comes that we will either find our level and stay there with island players or decide to progress higher up the leagues and sign some UK based players.

doubt de gea in your post donks hes pony .....................lol

De Gea is quality !

debatable - usually takes Fergie 2 or 3 keepers to replace the last decent one

I think De Gea is coming good now.

Getting back on topic my point was that Tardif played in the Premier League for Portsmouth, we are bound to miss him when he's not playing as he is pure class.

This is what I was trying to explain GD about the prem and beating egham, it seems to me you rely on Allen and black too much. For you to progress in the prem and higher you need 11 players not 2 or 3!
