V north wood

Some fantastic goals from our strikers tonight in a game where Northwood looked a very good attacking side. They are bound to cause problems to other teams at the top end of the league.

In previous seasons we would have lost a game like that, struggling to hold onto the ball while the opposition kept coming at us.

A real shame if Charlie is leaving, hopefully the other players can convince him otherwise given that Sean has a suspension coming up.

Well done to the team, a very good performance to keep us at the top. Hoping to hear about a good result on Saturday.

Good win against a good side, well done.

Danny made my night with the cuddle, just like the old days when the players celebrated with us after scoring. Sad thing for Danny is that I shall expect the same now every time he scores !!

Good luck to Charlie, dont really want to see him go but cant blame him really.

As much as I would like to see Charlie stay, I can understand his reasons for wanting regular football....

Levi King would be a great asset to the club but we would struggle to keep him if Bateman were to go and sign him as any striker that comes in as a replacement would have to realise that their playing time would be severely restricted as Sonner appears to be our 1st choice striker with Abbey and Burnell being rotated as his partner, it will be extremely tough for Bateman to keep a 4th striker happy...

Wouldn't surprise me if we see Simon Martin return if I'm honest!!!

I agree with Ian, I thought Northwood were the best side I have seen this season. Very pacy forwards and I can see why they are doing well in the league. All in all a great result, with the defence standing firm and some great goals. By the way,

we seemed to have a lot more fans behind the goal in the second half, did some of the inhabitants of the cemetary join the

Slough support. Also, what was Staines Rebel doing wth that coffin?

It's unlikely we'll get an experienced striker to sit on the bench. Sonner and Burnell are rightly first choice and Ben has proved he's more than capable of giving them a run for their money when he gets chances. The best option therefore is a young up and coming striker who should expect to wait for his opportunities - Tony Mendy would fit the bill if he could be persuaded.

Our defensive play, especially in our full our full-back positions was decidedly iffy, especially in the first half where we struggled to cope with their pace and went to sleep for their first goal.

They did look a very quick team all over the park but our clinical finishing was the deciding factor on the night.

Great not to play well and still get the 3 points against a good team.

Sean Sonner defo MOTM for his 2 superbly taken goals.

Ultimately do we really need two strikers to sit on the bench? We could have Abbey there and as Cookham Rebel says there are options in that Logie or NBH could be called upon to go up top if necessary. Were we may have a problem is if we ran into injuries and had to seek a ready replacement. The difficultly is without a reserve team, anyone who can't break into the first XI will struggle for any form of game time and I think it makes it hard to take the chances should they come along.

I doubt many established performers at this level would be willing to come and hope to get chance. That said no guarantee Charlie will go, many things are said in haste and whilst I appreciate his frustration perhaps he can be persudaed to stay with forthcoming suspensions giving him a chance.

Last night, we did enough. They were a good side and if their strikers had been less profligate and their keeper less generous things would have been very different. But it was vital to follow up Saturday with three points. Burnell and Sonner were great and took their chances well and frankly should be the nailed on starting partnership when fit. But it is good to have Abbey breathing down their necks as he will be ready and raring to take his chance again when it comes.

Another tough game Saturday - COYR.

Just a thought.....who's to say the excellent form of Sonner and burnell hasn't been because of two very good potential replacements sitting there. In previous seasons none of the strikers on the bench were ever going to be considered first choice.

Tony mendy is currently on trial at watford.

As usual,Reading Rebel,I agree totally with you. I thought Alex Brown had a 'mare' first half although Steve Bateman seemed to blame Steve Sinclair for not running back and defending, which was harsh to say the least. Sinccy is a lot easier to tell off than Browny ! lol !

In the 2nd half, it was obvious to see that Alex Brown played more as a orthodox right back than the right-sided centre half of the 1st half and so had a far improved display.

Northwood probably feel somewhat robbed but for once our finishing and quick break outs were clinical and this was the real difference between the sides.

Sean Sonner was definitely Slough's best player of the night. Even though,he get's on my nerves with his constant whinging and swearing. Still we can't have everything!
