New Stadium Observations

CD Towner

Recommended Posts

I attended my first game at the QE last night and it was great to see the hard work that has gone in. Everything is looking great and the main thing of the pitch/stands is fantastic.

Just a couple of observations that could maybe help to enhance the matchday experience though:

It seemed quite quiet (despite the good sized crowd for a league cup game) around the stadium. Some upbeat music for half hour or so leading upto the game would really help to build the buzz before the game.

Equally, perhaps we could have an entrance anthem for when the teams come out. Any suggestions for suitable songs?

The burger van seemed ok but perhaps a menu for what was available along with a similar thing in the bar?

It was good to see ballboys being used for the game and this helped to eliminate any delays caused by the athletics track when the ball went off.

Any other thoughts from people or perhaps even some updates from the committee as to the clubs plans for these type of things?

It was my first visit last night as well, and I think you raise some good points CD.

Not sure if music is viable/acceptable to local residents, but it did seem a little quiet before the start of the game, and at half time. Also, when behind the goal at the A10 end (is that the right name for it?), the tannoy seemed to either be echoing or getting delayed somehow, which made it a little bit tricky to hear what was being said. Ball boys were very good, and worked well so the game kept flowing. Great views from in the bar, and you forget there's a running track at all when standing behind the goals, which is fantastic! Even the distance between the sides and the pitch was fine. Perhaps it might be a good idea to have some kind of queuing system in the bar for half time / full time when things are busiest if this hasn't been considered already.

Anyway, all round a very good evening (ignoring the result, which didn't really matter that much) and a home for us to be proud of! Great work and congratulations to everyone involved!

Oh without doubt Andy they are minor in the grand scale. However with something like tomorrow night coming up they may seem more important. "you only get one chance to make a first impression"

Correct, but we are where we are and the game goes ahead.

I am sure that those dealing with arrangements have taken on board comments from last Wednesday and last night.

I agree about the need for a bit more atmosphere being generated pre game and half time, plus with a few turning up ( we hope ) then there needs to be a bit more organisation on the tea and food front.

Still early days.

Now that we have used the ground a few times there will be a number of points people may wish to comment on.

How about a "Comments" box at the Club Shop for comments regarding the ground / observations etc which may help improve those "little" teething items.

ie - Tanoy regulator to stop cut-outs and some Bins.

Comment box at ground would avoid idiot comments on here by, ....well..... you know who.

I am not an official club spokesman, but I can answer a couple of the points made here:

- bins are 'on order' according to a well-known club person

- the problem is not with the p.a. but with the cordless mike being used. Perhaps we should revert to a hard-wired one to eliminate this problem?

As to the names for the ends, I think the left hand end (as viewed from the bar side) should definitely be the David Wilkinson End, in deference to the man who paid for the covered stand. Any suggestions for the other end? (Sorry Baz, don't think it's quite cold enough to be called that!)

See if David Lloyds want to sponsor the stand to be called the David Lloyd's stand, otherwise Roy Butler comes to mind.

The Ladies played at the stadium for the first time winning 11-0 today and they were all very happy with everything about the place from the pitch and changing rooms to the great hospitality by Squadron Leader with Regan Coleman commenting on twitter "great stadium, great football- well in girls- I got that fire back!"

The Old Actonians manager was very compimentary about the stadium along with his team who seemed to be enjoying the hospitality long after our girls had headed for the bar!

Thanks to all who helped out today.

We're getting there, bins are now out around the ground. Plus all seats now in place in the main stand.
