Don't think he's played for us for at least 4 years - I know he was at Hitchin for a time, but I'm sure he's had other clubs since (no doubt someone will be along shortly to confirm). For me, one of the most talented players that has played for Town, so much ability on the ball, great technique and a pleasure to watch. Could sometimes get out muscled / out run in centre midfield, but definitely was a decent player at this level when he played for us.

Sometimes you see a footballer who knows what he is supposed to do. He is comfortable on the ball, knows where his team mates are and can pass accurately more than 10 feet often defence splitting passes. SV was that sort of player and I could never understand why he did not get more starts in the team. I had heard it said that his style of football did not fit in with the style of play in the lower leagues. I think that is wrong the style of football I like fits in no matter what level of play we are at.

He reminds me very much of Jey Siva but then Jey is probably a better player and he also had to wait a long time for his chance.

Steve was an excellent midfield player who could strike a ball with either foot, find players with long range passes and score goals every now and again. A quote from a previous manager was something like, 'I am letting him go but if we get promoted, then he is the type of player we will need!'

Steve did go out of games often because he was misunderstood. Players did not know how to play with him and it showed. He was streets ahead of them, but was often overlooked.

I remember us playing at Harlow when he went on a mazy run looking to shoot. All I could hear was Gazza shouting no, no, no, don't shoot when Steve did. The ball flew into the top corner of the net. We won, I believe and Gazza gave up coaching! :D

Agree Steph, Steve had a lot of ability but at the time I felt he suffered from a touch of 'face not fitting' as well as his style of play not fitting in with 2-3 of the cloggers we had in the team. The then Steve Velandia would fit in nicely to our current style of play depending on his fitness.
