gluck i like this idea of a referee should maybe do a course at each club before the seasion starts to get across the laws of the game an sort of get a better rapport with players

I tried this at my local club, totally pointless as the players just took the mickey and made it obvious they thought it a waste of time.

Good point about lack of knowledge of the Laws of the Game, very few players know them from my experience.

NM

Exactly!

To me, this would be very sensible and easy to arrange and could be linked into a pre-season training session whereby the referee could referee some structured practices and, if it wasn't obvious, explain any decisions, etc. It could also involve some form of a question and answer session, a brief from the referee on, for instance, the use and involvement of his ARs, etc.

I have been to a number of clubs and giving a chat regarding how a referee does the job, starting with instructions to assistant referees, how and why he comes to various decisions during the game...teamwork with the assistant referees, talk about the offside rule, how the assistant referees come to their decisions... and at the end, ask some questions regarding the Laws...see how many they get right....and it wasnt many!!! Some clubs and players really got involved, some players didnt what to be there and found it a waste of time., and it normally ended up with them having a go about the referees they had recently...A couple of the clubs in the 2nd case were the following season one of the clubs that the management committee brought in front of them because of there poor record....while one of the first clubs i went to, and they asked me too, became one of the best clubs, and i was regularly advised by match officials how nice it was to referee that team.

Down to the management to install some discipline for these useful events.

I my 14 years of senior football, only once has a referee come into the club during pre-season.

Ok should have phrased it better, there are certainly better grounds in the Suburban than the CCL and that is an appeal to anyone, whether player of official.

Personally, I would still rather play first team football in the CCL than play in the Suburban league.
