Enfield Town v. Harefield United Highlights

The Cameraman

Highlights of the Harefield United match...the first First Team match in the new QEII Stadium...are now online here:

There are plenty more interviews and crowd shots on the full match DVD which should be on sale in the club shop shortly.

I filmed the match as a one-off free of charge as The Cold End was unable to attend....just in case anybody is thinking I am back as per the good old days at Southbury Road. :D

Great to see everybody again and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Onwards and upwards for ETFC at the QEII I would say, and well done to everybody involved in getting the new stadium up and running ! :applaus:

Its a shame that it was a one off as it really is a great thing to have and watch after the game. Is there no way we can persuade you to do it reguarly?

Unlike The Cold End and other volunteers who film for their local Non-League club (invariably from in amongst the crowd at ground level), I am a professional cameraman and I need a guaranteed payment from any match I film in order to earn a living.

Yes I film my own team (Edmonton Rovers) free of charge on Sundays as a sponsorship of the club, but I can't afford to do that for others.

Wednesday night was fine as I have already been guaranteed a sale of 20 DVD's from the club shop, but obviously that's not going to happen for your average League match, so I would therefore need a payment for filming those. My normal charge for Non-League clubs is £120.00 per match which includes an unedited DVD for the Team Manager straight after the final whistle and highlights edited & uploaded to You Tube.

When I filmed for Enfield at Southbury Road back in the 90's I relied on sales of match videos and compilations and I made my money that way. Supporters bought them because there was no You Tube in those days. Nowadays, people would much rather watch highlights free of charge on You Tube, especially on their smartphones on a train to work or whatever than buy a DVD...unless it's a special occasion like Wednesday night.

As I mentioned to a few people in the bar after the game, the way to fund my £120.00 charge per match would be to find a sponsor (e.g. a local company who sponsor the club ?) to pay for the cost in return for a 5-second 'bumper-ad' (as it's known in the trade) to be inserted at the start of the highlights. I think one of my freelance cameramen did this for a Wingate & Finchley v. Enfield Town match last season that is on You Tube somewhere ? Another way is to ask supporters to contribute £1-2 per match into a collection box in the club shop or whatever. That would work out cheaper for them to watch the highlights on You Tube than buying DVD's ? Sutton United did something like that when I filmed for them last season.

I have been filming for Ebbsfleet United for the last 8 years. It's Conference requirements to have the games filmed professionally, so I get paid to film all their Home games. If Enfield Town's Home games don't clash, then I would love to come back and film at the 'Donkey Dome' if it can be afforded. Trying to film matches at Brimsdown was a nightmare, but now we have a great vantage point for filming as you can see from the highlights. ETFC are also my nearest Non-League club.

However, I never like to step on anybody's toes. The Cold End website is excellent and if everybody is happy with the filming & editing on there, then you should stick with it. I never go and film matches if I know there is already somebody there filming for the Home club. I think that's unfair.
