Well you should take an interest, Amelia is a diabetic who makes Gary Mabbutt’s condition seem like chicken feed in comparison. She suffers from chronic ‘Type 1’ diabetes and was diagnosed with the disease when she was only three, symptoms include constant fatigue, reduced vision, nervousness, increased hunger and thirst and urination frequency. She gives herself insulin injections four times a day and has to monitor her blood constantly, she eats carbohydrate rich foods to ensure that her blood glucose levels don’t drop below a certain point as if they did it could be fatal.

Ah, so she is not a boring celebrity then. My apologies, I thought she was with a name like Amelia Lily.

 

It's very sad to learn of her condition, I know of a young girl called Maddy Box-Poole who has myclonic atastic epilepsy and she is on various medication and has to watch her ketone levels as well. She has a special fund, and the Midlands football community (especially Tividale FC and their chairman Leon Murray) have been wonderful in trying to get her into a specialist clinic in Surrey in order to improve her life quality.

 

I will read up more on Amelia Lily in due course.

Eldest daughter, now in her 30's, has been Type 1 since she was 15. STILL plays for Dorking Ladies X1 from time to time, coaches and trains with them regularly !

 

I appreciate it is a terrible illness, but controlled, people can lead an almost perfect life.

I was being ironic towards Rhodesy innit.

 

Obviously when you get someone famous for being, well, famous and they have a health condition of course you must be interested.

 

In all seriousness diabetes is serious and I'm sure she could do a lot for fellow sufferers in promoting understanding, early identification, group help and charity work leading to cures and better treatment.
