Ryman League - Hornchurch 3 Sutton United 0

A very solid performance against Sutton where we were always in the driving seat although we had to work very hard for our goals.

An attacking start saw Vinnie John finding the net with a header after 4 minutes only to have it ruled out for offside. It wasn't much longer before we did register, 3 minutes to be exact, and it came from Jude Sterling who struck home with a low shot from inside the 'D'. One of Sutton's rare chances came 7 minutes later when Danny Bolt ran onto a short back pass from Sterling and chipped over Daniel Gay but wide of the goal. A John Keeling shot whistled past the post with 8 minutes left and Vinnie John was unlucky to see his diving header bounce up and onto the bar five minutes before the break.

Sutton barely advanced out of their half in the second period and after 9 minutes a Jude Sterling header bounced over the bar. A surging run forward on the hour ended with John blasting the ball over from 10 yards but with just over 15 minutes left our pressure was rewarded when John Keeling pulled the ball back from the bye-line for debutant Mark Graham to head in unchallenged from 4 yards. Vinnie John's made it 3-0 6 minutes later when he turned on a Steve West ball into the penalty area to shoot past Sutton keeper Andy Iga for a well deserved goal which was well overdue.

Line-up:- Gay, Sterling, Kerrigan, Adedeji, West, Locke (Southon 86), Keeling (Rowland 77), J Martin, John, Douglas (Maynard 81), Graham. Subs not used:- A Martin, Collier (GK)

Excellant result we played really well good passion and possession.

Jude sterling played well in the adopted right back position, Locke in Midfield is probably the missing link that we have needed, confident commanding and links up well with others.

As for Andy Douglas, yes his fitness has improved over the past few weeks, but he has to sharpen his interpretation of the game. It does not take a genius to work out if there is a long ball to Vinnie in the air it will probably end up in space. Douglas seemed flat footed.

Maynard although only young showed vision and pace with surging runs and was unlucky with one run when play was stopped for an earlier infringment.

All in all a happy fan.

Certainly from my view a good performance against probably the cleanest side we have played this season, and a good bunch of fans.

Well done to all special mention to Mark Graham on his debut, very solid and with Whippet on the other wing who'd be a fullback nowadays?

Also well done to you supporters, roll on Northwood!!

In the 1st half I thought we were a bit poor. Again lacking passion, passing a bit iffy and thought if Sutton scored we would struggle. Fortunately for us, we struggled but they were pants (in my opinion). Their goalie was quite suspect as well, don't you think?

2nd half much improved. and can generally agree with what has been written. though think the 3-0 result did flatter us a little.

Agree with Diggers' view on Douglas, though must point out that he has actually scored 5 goals for us so far, it's just 4 were ruled out - often not his fault.

Will reserve judgement on Locke for a few more games. Pre-injury I thought him a waste of space and money as, lets face it, he was incredibly lazy on the pitch. But we will see. I hope for our sake he does keep his socks pulled up and not just wait for his wages to be paid each month.

But seriously, brown and yellow? What on earth were Sutton thinking!!!???

i think i would agree with some of the things little miss has to say, our performance was at times farcicle we were the better team on the day know doubt about that but we did at times look to hinder ourselves with a lack of imaginitive play and a passion to want to score more goals, and as for adam locke i still don't think he gives enough effort to his all round play for the team...................

Wasn't at the game (living in Manchester plays havoc on attending Ryman league matches) but i have it on good authority we were sh*te, and you were well worth the win. Also you got great comments about the attitude of your fans towards my fellow Sutton-ites.

Also LMU, Choclate and Amber (Yellow and Brown) have always been our kit colours, since the day we came into being in 1898, and because we Surrey folk have great buisness sense, and decided Choclate and Amber was cheaper than M*roon and Gold. Plus it makes that extra bit more unique.

trust your behaving yourself young jared in the northern fleshpots...you aint to far away from me at the mo....bloody cold up here...

I thought it was a funny game on sat....very quiet and both teams a little lethargic...first goal did it for me and I fancied more would come after we rode out the little storm from your lot just before half time...but I also think that my fellow urchins forget to quickly...Sutton were a conference side until recently and have always performed well in the prem...

I thought we were good value for our win and I also thought Lockie was very very influential...we shall see...

great bunch of fans jared...hope they enjoyed the hospitality if not the result...

[color:"blue"] I can remember Sutton Knocking Millwall out of the FA cup one year and Dean ... (forgot his name) who played for us at the time kicked the dressing room door to bits. Trust they replaced the B&Q 3 ply with stronger stuff ? But they had a very good team back then, as I recall.[/color]
