Town 1 Colchester Utd 3

Recommended Posts

Town were unable to defend their Essex Senior Cup but were not disgraced in losing to a very strong Colchester side. One of their followers told me that outside of the first eleven, it was their strongest team, with at least 6 having made first team appearances this season.

Town took the lead with a well worked team goal, finished by Paul Semakula on 15 minutes. Colchester equalised just before half time and took the lead early in the second half; then adding a penalty midway through. They were far too strong but Town never gave up, with H coming on for the final 20 minutes.

Tis strange to lose a game and think we came out as the better team.(imo) All credit to the manager on fielding the right team against a vastly experienced higher league squad.

Great that we got the first goal & almost a second thanks to some clever play by (strangely enough) or defence.

The Subs made a big difference in the game in the last 20(as is part of the corse now) and almost clawed back a well deserved goal.

Good luck to Colchester for the remainder of this competition, But remember...........

For now

We (BTFC) are officially the best team in Essex.

I thought Jay May was one of the best players on the pitch last night.

Not a bad performance overall; certainly not a walkover for a very strong Colchester team. We were a little sloppy at times and the workrate from some wasn't what we're used to; maybe there was half an eye on Wealdstone Saturday. Junior having his back turned to the short corner late in the game was a good example of this.

But a good evenings entertainment. Shame to not be able to defend that magnificent Trophy any further, but all eyes back on the league now.

We lost, its just not good enough, sack the manager NOW!

I doubt we will play a better side than that all season. We started well and if Wildo had taken his chance to make it 2 zip before half-time it may have been different. Disappointed to go out, but Saturday was always the bigger game. It should show our players that they are capable of competing with sides from a much higher level.

We did well but in the end they were too strong for us. Their passing was very good and they always seemed to have an extra man available.

Paul scored a very good goal for us and had we managed to go 2-0 who knows, but in the second half it seemed inevitable that they would go on and win the game.

Team selection for Saturday will be interesting.

Come on you Blues!

No disgrace to lose to a very good side, we competed well and caused them some problems but their class overcame us in the end. Thought this game went very similar to the friendly against Norwich, they passed very well and always had a man out wide waiting for a pass and he was never being marked. All in all very enjoyable to watch the lads put a brave defence of the cup and I doubt if they will put out a team like that in the rest of the competition.
