AFC Hayes vs Slough Town

Begger's belief that a penalty was awarded ..it seamed to given by the linesman on the opposite line ? The referee had indicated a corner first ...then change his mind after a signal from the linesman ... To make matters worse he then covered his tracks and booked James ! The shot was parried by James then the forward ran forward and fell over him ! was a farce !

AFC Hayes had one direct shot all night at the Slough Goal and were handed a life line by a very inept trio of officals !

The only thing we must cut out is the back chat ! Lads you will never win this against officals .. its not worth it !

sorry to say another big fine for Slough with so many bookings !

Lets turn it around for Saturday .. Up the Rebels...

I thought we played well last night, especially second half where we dominated from start to finish only to be mugged by a ludicrous penalty decision given by one of the 3 inept officials.

My only gripe of the team is the lack of discipline which has reared it's ugly head again.

I think 4 of the 6 bookings were given for verbals to the officials a consequence of which Sean Sonner will receive a suspension.

The bookings we are getting, largely due to a lack of discipline, could have a detrimental effect to our promotion push later in the season.

It was a difficult pitch to play on, fully grassed but short, and with a heavy dew all players found it difficult to stay on their feet. That also made it difficult for the officials, however they did seem to get everything wrong, not helped by the ref's attitude of calling everything a foul, even when there was clear advantage, and often when the players (both sides) had just slipped on the grass.

He didn't help the game flow at all, and was a poor ref from that point alone. The linos got a lot wrong too, often quite simple and obvious stuff, and it was difficult to have any belief in their decisions. A shame as both sides tried to play decent football in slippery conditions, and the officials didn't help at all. Too much dissent from the Slough players, and perhaps its just as well that supporters can't be booked for dissent too, or we all would have been sent off.

It's a shame we are talking about one big decision spoiling what no doubt would have been a hard-fought 1-0 win. I didn't see AFC Hayes scoring until that happened. We've looked solid defensively recently and that was the case again last night.

The referee made a mistake and this is two points dropped on the balance of play. I feel sorry for James Warrington, who was clattered again, but what's done is done. The big positives for me are - we didn't lose (in previous seasons heads might have dropped and allowed the opposition a winner); Dan Burnell is back amongst the goals; and we look good at the back. It's just a shame we couldn't find a second goal to kill off a very tight game. We should have nothing to fear against St Neots if we keep up our recent level of performance.

However, it was really disappointing to see such indiscipline again. As Chris has said, that gets the club another fine. I counted six, though it may have been seven. Many of them were for backchat, not even for attempting a tackle. Not what we need as some players head toward a suspension.

I hate going to AFC Hayes at the best of times, and last night was unfortunately no exception!

The only decision as bad as the penalty was when he awarded Slough a free kick after Burnell slipped and then booked their player for the "foul". Of course that major error didn't lead to a penalty and so doesn't even things up.

Everytime two players jumped for a ball in the air a free kick was given. He totally ruined the game even before the penalty decision.

I am all for supporting the officials and the respect campaign but you see a performance like that and you wonder what their motivation is. It doesn't help when you have the linesman laughing away all through the game and shruggging his shoulders at ineptitude. He also told some fans it is about opinion. That's just plan wrong some things are about fact. Did the ball cross the line being one - two decisions there were wrong or were given on an incorrect basis at least or did Warrington get to the ball first.

It would be nice if the ref and the linos would come on here and watch the video, see their mistakes and put that in the report to the FA.

Yep the dissent of the players was daft because he never will change his mind and yes if you could book fans we would all have been sent off but frankly these officials deserved it. Terrible decision and you just hope that won't cost us at the end of the season.

I did hear behind the goal last night that when Sean was booked for 'dissent', he hadn't actually said anything other than 'what was that for?' (even though it was a clear handball), when the linesman claimed he had said something, and our assistant manager was within hearing distance and was fuming as a result.

Sometimes I wonder if we get some of these decisions against us purely because we have the large support around the ground to spot these terrible decisions and tell the ref what we think, compared with clubs that have very little support.

I'm still absolutely fuming!

ARAAS has raised a very valid point about our support maybe influencing the referee but that is only because we are passionate and we care... The officials should rise above it though and play fair, the linesman last night only served to wind people up more with his antagonistic responses to questions raised, he would have been better off staying silent!

Although we were robbed of a deserved 3 points, AFC Hayes are 4th and a point at there place maybe isn't such a bad result giving that they are much improved and have turned over some of the big boys...

Regarding the players supposed indiscipline last night, I have a lot of sympathy for them (this season dissent has been at a minimum) as god knows how frustrating it must have been out there for them with some of the decisions that were being made, the officials have to take a lot of the blame for that. Of the yellow cards, from what I saw, only 2 were probably warranted and those were Sinclair's and Martin's, the rest were petty to say the least.... I seem to remember the Burnham game earlier in the season where we had 6 yellow cards given against us and a the majority of us were perplexed as to what they were for!

Sometimes, officials do themselves no favours at all and last night was a prime example of this!

It wasn't one-side either - the referee sent their manager off and I was quite close to the dugout when it happened. Their manager was demanding that the referee protected his players (obviously aggrieved at a challenge). It wasn't an expletive filled rant but the referee obviously took exception and sent him off anyway!

Yes the referee was poor. Yes the linesmen were probably worse. Yes AFC Hayes are excellent at falling over and timewasting. But...

Poor officials are nowadays what you will get at this level. When did we last have a good one. In the last couple of weeks we have had 21 year old refs. A few years ago guys of that age would still be learning their trade in the park. The shortage of refs will probably make this worse in the future. So teams must learn to accept it and NOT ARGUE BACK all of the time. This will just put the refs back up. He is only human and will react to being insulted. You would, i would, so will the ref. Slough had terrible discipline last night and paid with bookings, a fine and future suspensions. This must change or our promotion effort will shoot itself in the foot.

The penalty however should have been their consolation. We should have won 3-1. We now have the best defence in the division - look at the league table -which is brilliant after some of last seasons gaffes. But our attack is only seventh best. One of the consequences of improving the defence is that those responsible for the forward play have to work harder as there is less support from the defence. This season Sonner and Coyne have stepped up to the plate on this, but some others have not matched this.

Being tackled, losing the ball, and then taking your time standing up, moaning at the nearest opposition player, moaning at the official and then setting off at a jog back towards the defence who are now under siege is not an option in this new Rebel world. Promotion will only be achieved by focussing on what needs to be done and sticking together to achieve the task.

This indiscipline must stop - NOW. We have a really good side which can and should do very well. It would be perverse for the team themselves to ruin it.

I look forward to all the people complaining about how bad the officials are to be on the next round of referee training courses to show how much of a better job they can do.

No ref = no game.

Using that logic, you can't even criticise any of the players at any time either because you're not as good as them.

They are there to do their job as a referee and they should be open to criticism. They also know when taking the job on that it involves frequent criticism from supporters.

Yep, good assessment. I said at half time that we were in danger of using the poor officials as a reason not to do what we should be doing. What we should have done is said right, we're going to win despite the officials and got on with it and scored a couple of goals.

I agree with all the stuff about the officials and especially the penalty call but the fact remains that if we had turned our superiority , possession and chances into goals we would have been out of sight by the time the penalty happened......and its not the first time we have had to say this.

I am as upset as any one about the number of cards and the possible implications and would not disagree with other posts about discipline but by God I think for some of our guys it would have been difficult to just bite their lips yesterday when the feeling all around the ground was that we were being cheated

In all my years of playing/watching non-league football, you sometimes get one bad official. Unfortunately last night we got all

three! The linesman in the first half seemed to think that every time a ball was put over the top he would flag for offside.

Obviously, some of these were offside, but not every time! As for the penalty, I spoke to an AFC Hayes guy on the way out

who was adamant it was a great take from Warrington and never a penalty. The lino is the second half couldnt decide on anything

and made matters worse by spending the whole half griining like a chimp. And to make mattes worse, I got stuck with a

nutter on the bus back to Feltham station. Dont want to go back there again- ever. Still thought we were easily the

better side, roll on Saturday.

I agree Stanley, but football supporters are so quick to point the finger at refereeing decisions costing their side. Having officiated one supporters game (not qualified, never been on a course) and having spent some time over the past four seasons speaking with referees after the game, you do tend to defend them and their decisions a little more! A classic point in case was the disallowed goal at NGU earlier in the season. Everyone was adamant there was nothing wrong, but the ref made a great spot for a foul on the keeper which none of us would have noticed. Don't think too many backed down and held their hands up to acknowledge ref got it right.

I think others have covered the point in detail here that we shouldn't expect nor rely on excellent officials at this level of football. The guys that do it are either on their way up or have been at this level for a while and do it for the enjoyment of it. They give what they see and do it as best they can.

Having seen the video, just putting together the highlights now, which captures the "foul" and just done my best defending of referees I am at a loss to understand the decision and can understand the disappointment.

Highlights will be up on the site in about an hour or so.

I completely understand your defence of them Gary and as you say there can be no game without them but I think part of the problem supporters have empathising with officials is that it is a pretty odd vocation. For me firstly I'd like to play football, secondly watch the team I support, thirdly watch a decent game on the telly, fourthly listen to Five LIve or watch Soccer Saturday or the like and a distant fifth officiate a game. I'd be surprised if many football fans felt differently. But thankfully some do as we do need them.

Anyhow, what's done is done, roll on Saturday - let's get back to winning ways - COYR
