Four - Nil to the Canvey Boys!!!

How I enjoyed the game today against The Ducks. As soon as I got home I felt the urge to write it all up. I wanted to write about the strength of the defence with Wardy putting in some very delicate dinks forward rather than a hoof... about the strength of Kevin Dobinson's timely tackles and the difference it is making to the midfield... about the obvious potential of Neil Midgely but how it has yet to be fully realises... how the crosses from the right that were causing damage were still coming from JK or Ollie rather than Midgely... the total class of Jeff Minton, did we ever have such an accomplished mid-field general?... of the most superb lay-offs from the head of Neil Gregory in the second half... the well taken goals from Ollie Berquez...

I could go on and on. I've already written more here than will appear on the Official Website with its 5 line match reports (it seems that not only did they want to shut us up, but are not prepared to go into any sort of detail of games themselves).

But let's not be bitter. Let's celebrate the superb performance today and for all those who couldn't make it to Park Lane, you missed a good 'un. Pity there is no website covering the games in more details.

Oooh Bitchy!!

I was celebrating Huddersfield's 89th minute winner at home today entertaining cousins before a party tonight.

I did think about popping down the Park Lane for the 2nd half but decided I couldn't be arsed to walk!

Still I got the score from the Aylesbury forum 20 minutes before it was on our Official website. So I already knew what had happened.

It's a pity I can't make Tuesday games this season, Bedford away looks prospectful.

Well said people!

Good performance today. There was a time in the second half when Aylesbury looked like they might get back into it. We rode the storm, defended well and Greggors goal sealed us the points.

It was pretty funny winding up the Aylesbury supporters with 'duck' chants but credit must go to their supporters who made alot of noise and were still singing at the end despite being thoroughly outclassed.

You should have come down for the second half, Matt. I would have bought you a drink!

minton for miller.. you still have to laugh at that one.

their no.6 had a dobbo style game in the 2nd half and they did come back into the midfield battle.. thought duffers had a good game.. i still would rather see j.k. out on the right.. great defending from the 3 centre backs.. how will chenners get back in..??

looking at other results, hornchurch snd shalton both won..hayes were 'northwooded' like we were ;-) bognor n thurrock dropped points and grays duffed the norweigans up.. everyone plays tuesday except us n kettering, lets hope some of those results go our way..

riccay go bottom and need to start racking some points soon to have a shot at conf 2

I find it amazing how in a week our attendance almost doubles! 535 I think it said there was today!!!

If Uxbridge didn't bring anyone with them last week, did Aylesbury bring 200 with them today? Or was it just a fact that Canvey fans didn't consider the FA Cup last week that important?

...and the Aylesbury website claim the scoreline flattered us!!! They do claim that we will be Champions come May though!

Great performance by the boys today, another game we totally dominated could have been a lot more than 4.

Not wishing to sound too arrogant but can anyone get anywhere near us this year. The likes of Carlshalton and Bogner Regis are doing well but im certain they wont last. At the start of the season I thought that Kettering would be a real threat but at the moment they will be lucky to make the conference div2.

Things cant get much better Canvey top, Ricay bottom!!!

If anyone tells you that Canvey were flattered by the scoreline, I would be inclined to ban them as it simply is not true. Canvey dominated the first half and but for some better finishing, would have gone in for the break with three goals on the board. Ducks may be thinking that because they came out from half-time and had a good spell that they had a good half. Well, it was certainly better than their first half, but it wasn't as good as Canvey's. The scoreline underpins that observation.

Truth is, Ducks did not have a shot on target for the whole game and the closest they came was from a second half free-kick that, although well hit, was always going high.

Top marks to the visiting supporters who sang and cheered all afternoon, even though they rarely had much to sing about. Unlike Canvey they couldn't put any good moves together in the danger zone which is where it counts.

Shame there are no photographs on the official site - nobody at the CanveyIslandFC.Com website team got a camera?

hornchurch n hayes are the danger teams.. everyone expect 'shalton to blow up but they are still going.. no one seems to be having much joy visiting bognor either.. i think points of the k's will be hard to come by.....

wilson will do a job at alysebury and nick bedfords best players and turn em into a bedford, who we struggled against last season.. hopefully bedfords cupboard will be stripped bare by the time we go there.. next 8 games see us playing some of the leagues tougher teams.. 5 of em away..

still that can wait for now.. dover next weekend.. they lost today but i expect they will be massivly fired up for one of the biggest ties of the round.. i can see defending in numbers n looking to break, maybe hoof it long a lot.. that will introduce them to theobald and cowans..

unfortunatly i will be oop north and will miss this game.. bloody shame i reckon it will be a good one and they will bring a decent number of fans along

To be honest Matt, I'm surprised the crowd figure was that high, because there didn't seem to be that many their today. Seemed like more around the 400 mark.

Good following from Aylesbury and made a lot of noise but if my memory serves me well we got well over 600 for this fixture last year and that was in January when it was bloody freezing!!

FA Cup qualifying games are never a crowd puller especially when we're playing a lower division side. Hopefully should be a good crowd for Dover next week.

Sorry Matt, i disagree, thought that about right. Right about the songs though, late in coming but good fun! As to their new manager turning them into a Bedford equivalent, then beating them now may be important! however, if we struggle against those type of teams (Bedfords a la last season) then we should not be as confident as we are! There are good sides out there, but we have the ability to get something from every game, this will not happen, but it's good to know!

thought you guys would like this e mail i sent to the clubs new web site....needless to say i havnt received a reply...sent 10/09/03

Dear Sir

Following the banning of the `Canvey three` and the effective shutdown of their great site, you will be pleased to note that I have loyally changed to the official version,

I did not know the `Canvey three` personally and wouldn’t even know them to look at, but wherever I am in the world, on business or pleasure, it was always good to know that I could find all the up to date news, fixtures and match reports at the touch of a button.

So the club, management or owner decided that wasn’t good enough, Orwellian tactics where employed and the three duly banned from the club. A new version was born. So far, so good, but after the commencement of the new season I duly logged on to the all singing` all dancing` official site only to find it’s sh*t! (For want of a better word).

I don’t want to buy a mobile phone, boyz toyz, music or whatever else, I want to know about the game, match reports, pictures and the yellow army (remember them, rain or shine?)

So after all the fuss about the unofficial site, you could at least make an effort to make it as good as the aforementioned or perhaps a better idea would to ask a certain three people (who have proved they are better at it than you) how to do it…….

Disgruntled Canvey fan
