Enjoyable match i thought -and both teams played well.

 

having seen the opening game of the season at wealdstone-i thought both teams had improved since that day.

 

I thought wealdstone a good side,and as per wellsies match report-definately the stronger for the first 25 minutes when they ran they dominated midfield.Credit to margate for pulling themselves back into it.

 

Is it just my wrong perception-but was trhe difference in the second half, that Avery played slightly more forward, robinson and stubbs also played a bit more centrally and thus we dominated midfield more.

 

Avery protects the defence so well imo-so is missed in that defensive /holding role ,but made a difference when he played more forward and to use a cliche--the defence played with a 'higher line'.

i still maintain-the best way is 5 in midfield-dominate the possession/get and keep control, and play just one up front.

That is the way we will score more.

But does possession have any relation to goals scored? Wealdstone had most of the ball in the first half but lost the first half 1-0. We had most of the ball in the second half but lost the second half 1-0. How many games do you see where the team who has most of the ball loses? Loads.

whilst CR had a good game-as did most- i was a bit surprised he won the sponsors mom award.

 

Agree-he had a particularly good second half-but imo was not exactly head and shoulders above anyone else in the first half-indeed-as wealdstone were particularly threatening down the right in the first 35 minutes-had Courtenay and DH ought to have done a bit better between them ?

Another thing i learnt saturday-never realised that in clokes abscence, that laurence ball was captain these days.
