Town 2 St Neots 0

Recommended Posts

8 yellows and 3 sent off - sounds like a fiery game eh?

No we had a card happy ref today who did his best to spoil a game where both teams tried to play football.

Town deserved their win with first half goals from captain fantastic Swaine and David Knight.

For the record Junior Luke received two of the softest yellows you will ever see, their full back also received two yellows and their Manager was sent off for something he said. ( I think the whole ground ageed with him !!!)

Yet another win by the Blues no thanks to the Ref & lino's. I thought we bossed the game against a somewhat over paid club with big names.

The difference for us is our lad's want it and play as a team. No individuals like in the past just pure drive from everyone involved.

Shame about the red cards as really no need for it from the Ref for either side. (IMO)

When are these officials going to realise that their actions in disrupting games is detrimental to the paying public and they have a responsibility to perform well just as much as the players.

The referee made no allowance for a greasy wet pitch that inevitably meant players would slide around, fall over etc. And to add to his idiotic performance his linesman (sorry assistant referee) got in the act. Now he was clearly optically challenged judging by the number of offsides he got wrong but had a very keen sense of hearing to pick up an obscenity from 25 yards and get the opposing manager sent off. Still by then the ref didn't really have many further people on the pitch who hadn't been booked or sent off. Pretty lucky really that Blue Pilgrim and myself didn't get a caution !!!

I do hope both management teams put in strong complaints and that we don't have to suffer this prat again.

Oh, and the match - well done the Blues, another competent performance for what could have been a difficult tie.

And Craig, for God's sake don't put Swaine on the transfer list as well, he was magnificent again.

I think you've got it spot on there BB, all 14 players for us were out there working hard for the team. That's been the case for us in every game we've won this season, and when we've let it slip (Leatherhead in the Cup) we've been undone.

I think it's fair to say St Neots are not as good as they clearly think they are: not one shot on target in 90 minutes.

Two stone wall penalty shouts for St Neots might have changed the way the game played out. The first one was when the game was goaless, I was sure your centre half was walking! The second one came at a time when we were threatening to get back into the game, you got the feeling it might have made life a little trickier for you. Yes the game was getting fiesty allright, IMO the ref could of called time on a few more players games today, from both teams!

In reply to the above poster who said we wasn't a lot of cop, in our defence we did try and play in the second half!

Your keeper didn't roll one short ball out and again IMO you didnt outplay us, you out muscled us! Your team certainly played to their strengths today. I thought your number 9 was a good player and the lad that got sent off was the best player on the park today IMO. We certainly looked woefully short upfront, our top goal scorer, from last season was suspended for todays game and his strike partner missed him!

Good luck in the next round guys and for the rest of the season in the league. If your boys put in good solid defensive displays like todays, you wont get beaten much.

Another good solid performance today totally dominated the 1st half went in 2 - 0 up could have been 3 or 4 and game over.

St Neots made a better fist of it 2nd half but still didn't create much both teams had 1 good pen shout turned down.

Always nice to win in the cup but didn't think St Neots were up to much maybe they had an off day.

Another home draw would be nice on Monday

Well done fella's

Another comfortable win. It's getting scary this run of form :)

I have to say I was hugely disappointed with St.Neots after all their talk. Brightly (who looked our best keeper since Nicky) didn't have a save to make in 90 minutes. I thought we took our foot off of the peddle in the 2nd half after a very easy 1st half. I think we would have scored a good few more if we had H to come on in all that space in the 2nd half.

The penalty shout they had in the 2nd half was laughable as Brightly clearly played the ball.

Let's hope for a good draw on Monday.

Well done lads.

Got the job done in the first half with another fine display. Took the foot of the gas a bit in the second which meant for a couple of nervous moments at the back but fully deserved to go through overall.

Poor display from the officials. Some really strange decision making.

Some more money in the bank though, fingers crossed for a decent draw tomorrow.

Another fine win for us yesterday, with the added bonus of a clean sheet for Dale on his re-debut.

We were miles better than them in the first half and the score-line could have been more. In contrast to recent games we were less effective in the second, but as Simon pointed out I don’t recall them having a shot on target. May and Knight again worked hard up top (great goal from Knight) and I thought Semakula was strong in the middle of the park. Swainey handled Stefan Moore fairly comfortably as well.

As for them, I always think when you have to look for non-decisions as your best chances then you’ve struggled a bit. For what it’s worth I thought the one against Swainey in the first half could have been given but Brightley definitely got the ball in the second half. I understand from the lads behind the goal we had a “stonewall” penalty turned down too….

I actually thought most of our cards were deserved and it is a small area of concern that we are picking up so many yellows at the moment. I hope it doesn’t come back to bite us later on in the season.

It was great that we were able to give young players White and Radley some more minutes on the pitch in a big first team game and we were also able to give young Grant Eagle a debut and I thought it was a promising effort from the lad. I bet those three were all keen as mustard to get a Blue shirt on and lapped up the crowd’s applause at the end.

Well done to the team!

Come on you Blues!!

I had to 'ave a chuckle at this quote: "The lads really deserved a replay of this match for their sterling second half performance" said Dennis Greene!

No shot on target for 90 minutes and he thinks they should've nabbed a draw! We dominated the first half entirely where they just couldn't match us. Second half we barely got out of second gear, but I thought we looked the more likely to score. Tooting were a better team than them and they're currently a lowly placed Ryman Premier side! Good to see 3 youngsters come off the bench and get a taste of the action as well.

Hmm.. I thought it best to stay off this topic. But seeing as you've raised it I feel the need redress the balance.

I thought Brightly was our best keeper since Ottley.

But it would be a boring world if we all agreed.

I actually thought most of our cards were deserved

Sorry, must have been watching a different game. I was closest to Luke's first yellow and also Halle's - they would never have been given in the Premier League. At distance, Swaine's looked fair but Wild's and Luke's second were a bit harsh.

Referees have a hard job but they have to get the balance right. The guy yesterday was poor and both teams were visibly frustrated by his performance. Compare and contrast the two yellow offences committed by their full back to those "committed" by Luke. I rest my case

It's always interesting to read the other Club's perspective.

Having read the pre-match build up comments, I think we were expecting a much harder game and certainly more of their supporters in attendance.

It's great that they have ambition and funding to back it up. However, if they thoughf Billericay were a "physical" side, then they are in for a shock if they do rise up through the the leagues.

Gazz, I think TC may be referring to the fact that the ball appears to have veered away several yards in the direction it would have gone had Dale got a touch. We all know what really happened was that the striker controlled it ten yards to his left so that he could finish from an accute angle only for Dale to brutally hack him down.
