Slough vs Woodford

staines_rebel_Jr Although Im sure you didnt mean to youve reinforced my point. You are of course wrong that you only have to score one goal to win a game . There is also the little matter of not conceding . In fact if you dont concede you can never lose and if you score a hatful you arent guaranteed a win The point I was making is that an almost identical numbers of goals (bar 1) last season from the same number of games had us struggling in mid table Thats why I dont think the forwards have done well this season so far although Im sure with the quality in the squad this will change We wont be champions if it doesnt.

Well said Martin.

I think that it is the moaners who have no plan B now - they cannot deal with us doing so well at this stage and with so little to complain about they have to start nitpicking in areas that are not really problems. Last season it was all about the silly goals which we let in (quite rightly), but now we have cut them out you have to look for something else!

The important thing is that we are top of the league and winning games, but we will see what happens against the teams around us, COYR!

Also, what is the problem with Coyne scoring goals from midfield? Surely it is a good thing! I assume that if our strikers were scoring all the goals you would be moaning about not having enough coming from the midfield in case the strikers had a bad day?

Maybe you are looking at the wrong level perhaps a season ticket at the Nou Camp would be more appropriate?

I imagine it wouldn’t be long before he would be on the Barcelona fan forum bemoaning the fact that all their strikers were midgets.

WR, how about 40 goals so far? Now there's a nice, round (and completely meaningless) figure.

ARAAS, it's potentially a massive problem! We've dropped points because we haven't looked like getting back into games where we've fallen behind.

Now I've had enough petty squabbling. It's only dividing us when we should be united going into a crucial stage of the season.

After a 4-0 home win you moan about the fact we were only in "2nd gear" - I would take 4-0 wins like that all season long.

That could also be considered as praise, but if the forum mafia consider it to be moaning, I am sure they are right.

Nice try Nathan but wrong answer. Stick to FIFA 2011 Playstation.

A completley meaningless answer to a completley meaningless figure to a completley meaningless question.

Some people don't know when to stop do they?

Nathan said after the 4-0 win that he had mixed emotions. He then clarified (as people thought he knew about Danny Murphy's girlfriend hence the mixed emotions):

"I had mixed emotions because although it was a good 4-0 win, I can't honestly say we had to break sweat to get it (without wanting to take anything away from the players). Rugby hit the post in the first half, and that was about it. They seem to have transformed from a side that we really struggled against only 6 weeks ago, into one of the worst sides I have seen at this level."

This was after pre-match saying it would be a close run thing because they were evenly matched sides.

I agree with you that normally saying a 4-0 win in second gear would be praise but it doesn't really come across as that when you read it. Despite not wanting to take anything away from the players Nathan still wasn't happy and concluded that Rugby were one of the worst sides he's seen! That is sometimes the difficulty though as just typing things onto a messageboard doesn't necessarily give the tone intended but obviously now we all read Nathan's comments in light of everything else he says and it tends to be when we are winning it is because we were fortunate or that the other team were poor (when we beat Leighton his comment was that a better side would have beaten us) and when we lose it is because we are dreadful.

I try to engage in debate but it then tends to be a case of retreating behind the original point or accusing us of oppressing free speech or insisting on positivity.

I don't believe there is a "mafia" on the forum. The problem is there are two different factions those who seem to be seeking out negatives and those who try and put a positive spin on things. Nowdays I fall into the second category generally but believe me when criticism is due I will dish it out. I just don't happen to think there should be criticism of a winning side that is top of the league but of course if I take exception to the negativity and offer my own opinions and am critical of others then I am seen to be party of some shadowy mafia operating in the cracks of the internet!

I've said it before on here, Steve Cumber's article in the programme Saturday was well worth a read - I do think it would give some pause for thought.

I am not saying we are a great side or that we are going to win the league but I think we are doing pretty well and ideally the forum would be reflective of that.

On an entirely different note, thanks for all the filming Nathan it certainly is appreciated for the games I can't get to.

So if some people say it, it would be considered praise, but if I say it then it's moaning? Interesting...

Anyway, thanks for the comments about the videos. It's nice to know that something I do is appreciated!

i agree to some degree that in some games recently we haven't produced loads of chances which can be worrying in tight games but we have got the job done so far so im not going to worry yet at least. the next few games will surely be tight affairs also but surely moments of magic are what win you games like that and if thats Coyne every week who cares?? not having all that many chances isn't solely the strikers fault of course anyway. we have 4 strikers who are all head and shoulders above what we have been used to in the bad bad times.

absolutely the defence improvement is the main reason why we have kicked on from last season and massive praise should go to Bateman, his staff and players for massively improving the main weakness in the side. the strikers particularly were on a hiding to nothing much of last season as it was inevitable we would hand at least 1 goal away on a plate most games if not more. if tightening up the defence results in less adventure but still so far resulted in more goals than last season when we were going for it and leaking heaps of goals i find it hard to see a major worry

Guys, have I started another argument??? Hahaha

Look, I can understand what Nathan and Irish Adrian are saying, along with RR, ARAAS, SJR etc... There is no point arguing, we are top of the league and winning games... If we were playing well and losing I'd be more worried, let's face it, last season we scoring and conceding a lot but now we are defending better as a team and hence probably not creating the same amount of chances for our forwards as a result, the reason we are top is team work, did Steve Bateman not say something like he needed to sacrifice us being so gung ho to get out of this league at the start of the season??? Let's face it, scoring a hatful led to conceding a hatful during the previous 2 seasons, something had to give and if I'm honest I'm glad we've sorted the defence out, the goals will come, I am very nervous when we play 4-4-2, we are far to open!!!

Let's just enjoy it at the moment, we're doing alright after 13 league games we've scored 25 goals, at the end of the day, the team that wins any league usually has the best defensive record, not most goals scores!

Having re-read Mr Rebel's and Martin's comments, I can see what you're saying but nonetheless I believe some people look at what I've posted and seen what they wanted to see and not what I've said. Therefore I honestly cannot see how my comments about the forwards have created this fuss.

I stand by what I said about the Leighton game because Leighton had the better possession, forced a good save from Warrington and missed a penalty. We on the other hand had only 1 shot on target: the goal. Which brings me back to my original point.

At the end of the day, I don't actually care who scores the goals (providing we score enough of course) it's just that I feel we're not too far from becoming a one-man team: Paul Coyne!

Are we world beaters? No. Am I happy we're defensively tighter than in previous seasons? Yes. Would we have lost in previous seasons some of the games we've won this season? Yes. Is the lack of goals solely the fault of the strikers? No. Should people stop arguing as we're TOP of the league? Yes. Am i about to order another pint of boddingtons? Yes! I think that concludes my input to this debate!!

Cookham Rebel, are you there?

Was just wondering what your team selection for AFC Hayes/St Neots would be. I would like to see Simon Sweeney back in for both games but would probably tinker with the midfield.Think Steve Bateman has a bit of a dilemma given the fact that we have St Neots on Saturday and AFC Hayes are no lightweights this season.

Hi 3spirit

Personally I'd go in 3-5-2 with the following 11:

Warrington (if not fit then Dennison)

NBH, Sweeney, Woozley (Sweeney as sweeper for his pace!)

Sinclair, Coyne, Perkins, Martin, Murphy (Perkins & Martin protecting the defence with Coyne running the show!)

Up front is tricky but I'd like to see Burnell partner Abbey! Sonner has done nothing wrong and has arguably been our most consistent forward!

Subs: Brown, Swift, Logie, Mpi, Sonner

BUT in SB we trust, it's only my view!
