Slough vs Woodford

Recommended Posts

Yes I agree that we both can and should win the championship this year but it is our very much improved defence that will be the main reason after 13 games last year we had scored 24 and conceded 23 This year our attack is no better scoring 25 but we have only conceded 10 Thats why we are top.

Thanks for your informative and enlightening opinion of the game Fortuna.

It's nice to know that we have dedicated supporters such as yourself who are always willing to give honest opinions, never slag anybody off for the sake of it and never hide behind an alias!

Who scored our first goal yesterday Nathan? I could have sworn it was a striker but perhaps I was watching the wrong game and obviously only 21 goals between Sonner, Burnell and Abbey is massively disappointing. In no way whatsoever.

Martin, Ben Abbey may have scored, but he and Sonner then spent the next hour looking isolated and inneffective. It took until the last 15 minutes for them to start causing problems again!

The Leighton game was won by a moment of brilliance from Paul Coyne; I don't recall the keeper having to make a save otherwise! Ditto Hanworth (both games), Gosport Borough and North Greenford. We had chances against Chesham and wasted them.

In my opinion, our main problem area so far this season is turning our possession into goals, which in some ways is a good thing as last season it was our defending that was holding us back. So far, largely down to our much-improved defence, we have got away with this. Now I believe in the saying "you can only beat what's in front of you", but let's hope that we can find that extra bit of quality needed up front to beat some of the top teams and not teams at the lower end of the table!

As I said, the next 2 weeks will show just how good we are!

Well done Slough, ground out a result in the end when I really thought a draw was on the cards. Nice to see our Plan A/

Plan B strike force is working well, we will need this strike force rotation as the season progresses. Off to the

AFC Hayes tomorrow night: the nicest ground in the league and the most pleasant people.

You people really must have your heads tested if you really believe that what I have said is moaning! This is nothing compared to some of the things I have said (some of which I now regret saying)!

Saying that our strikers aren't firing on all cylinders ATM isn't moaning!

Oh god ffs!!! Our strike force is doing well I've been playing up front at various levels... Some paid most not for over 20 yrs! The slough front line is doing a good job they won't score 4 every game but I think it's the best strike force since boot and hodge and is as good if not better than anything in our league! I played up front for my school with an international who is still playing professionally and he didn't always score at school level!! Positivity!

Don Juan deMarcus I dont feel your opinions are supported by fact. We are 1st in the league but only 7th in goals scored Our great defence has us 1st The forwards so far have been no better than adequate. 25goals from 13 games isnt great . Last season after 13 games we had scored 24 almost the same and that total had us 11th and struggling. If our defence continues to play very well and the forwards can begin to perform as they should we will be comfortable champions.

Thank-you Irishadrian for being objective.

I can't help but feel that some people are going out of their way to be shocked at what I say. Some people are also missing the point of what I have to say.

I can see I'm not going to win the arguement as I haven't yet received my UEFA badges, and ny career hasn't yet reached the dizzying heights like those of some people on this forum. I can only say that I will never hold a grudge against someone over an honest disagreement.

It is not a case of being shocked by what you say but bored by it. Why does everything you say have to be tinged with negativity?

After a 4-0 home win you moan about the fact we were only in "2nd gear" - I would take 4-0 wins like that all season long.

After grinding out a 2-1 win against a very well organised Woodford side - you decide to criticise our forwards for being ineffective despite one of them scoring an excellent goal.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion and it doesn't always have to be positive but we are top of the league and winning games - if that doesn't put a smile on your face and make you feel good about the team I really don't know what will.

Has it occcurred to you that the consequence of tightening the defence maybe that we are a little less adventurous going forward? You are the one that criticises SB for not having a plan B but isn't this it? The last two seasons we've tried 4-4-2 with two wingers and an attacking full back in Danny Murphy. We've now switched to a 3-5-2 with a holding midfielder player and wing backs. Playing Sincy there means we are going to lose some of his flair and creativity going forward meaning we are going to create fewer chances and maybe score fewer goals. But so far so good. It seems what you are after is perfection - attacking free flowing football, with chances and goals galore whilst keeping it tight at the back. Maybe you are looking at the wrong level perhaps a season ticket at the Nou Camp would be more appropriate?

One thing you are right on though is that the next couple of weeks and indeed the run of fixtures up to the new year are crucial. We are playing more of the teams in and around us - let's keep this run going and get the points on the board.

WR, that would depend on various factors. As I have already said (and you have chosen to ignore), our forwards have just about scored enough so far, and this is largely down to a tighter defence. Most of these have been against lower-placed teams.

Over the past 4/5 weeks, I feel they have been rather off-colour, and haven't looked dangerous enough. If anyone is shocked or offended by this, please grow a thicker skin!
