Guernsey v Ash United

I will try to answer the question concerning fixtures for Guernsey over the Christmas period as this has come up once or twice. The League is playing twice over the Bank Holiday, on Tuesday 27 Dec and Mon 2 Jan. Most clubs involved will have one home match and one away and had Guernsey been involved, they would have been the same.

Prior to the season I sent an email to each Club Secretary in Division One asking if anyone would like to go to Guernsey over this period. Nobody wanted to do so. Rightly or wrongly, I decided as a result of that, not to involve Guernsey in fixtures on either of the two dates concerned. It was not something requested by Guernsey and I have no doubt that, had they been given two games, home or away, they would have fulfilled them without any fuss. I may be wrong, but had I insisted that one of our clubs went out there over this period, I suspect it would not have been popular.

Given that there are only 18 clubs in Div 1 this season, it means that we have plenty of spare capacity at present at the end of the season. Indeed, we will need a few postponements over the winter period to enable Div 1 to keep going through and up to the end of April!

Why the fact that they are not playing over the Christmas period is seen as being to Guernsey's advantage I am not sure, but I should perhaps mention, at this early stage, that should Guernsey go on to win promotion and play in the Premier Division next season with an increased number of matches, there will be no choice other than to use these Bank Holiday dates next season.

Thankyou for the comprehensive explanation, this post will help to stop some peoples nonsensical posts regarding the Christmas and New Year period. Thanks once again.

Thanks indeed to Whitelaw and aupostie, I doubt if this will stop the one man and his imaginary friend from telling us all that everything is being done to suit GFC.

As for Ash United, I happily stand corrected.

Loving the comments about the chant "they tried to get the ball past Tardiff but he said No, No No" twas me and a mate in F34 and F35. Im sure some of you will have seen/heard us. Seems we are the only fans in the garenne prepared to get up and shout/have a bit of a chant. It is deadly silent in there at times......need more songs!

Ash United did seem like a good side, they couldnt quite get going though. Guernsey were poor in my opinion, probably the worst Ive seen at Footes Lane but to come out with a win is great.

Thing is if you'd e-mailed them all asking if they wanted to go to South Kilburn on Boxing Day, they'd probably all of said no thanks to that as well ;)

"NIce Guy" you are definitely on the wrong side!!! everyone in this forum is entitled to his or her opinion whether you agree or not what they write, they are also entitled to respect which includes "Smudge" and me, even though sometimes I disagree with "Smudge" and others I am always respectful and if you look at my previous posts and read them thoroughly you will agree with me, now I could write something about specsavers if you disagree with me regarding my posts !!!!!!! (the guernseyites would understand) I thank you, now onto football I believe that guernsey will have their toughest game yet away To EGham in the cup with them riding on the top of their league full of confidence as well as Guernsey this game will be a real tester for them it will not be easy for guernsey but if they can get the ball to the wings instead of trying the high ball through the middle then they should see a result from this match. Looking forward to the Hot food at EGham as no doubt it will be freezing cold.
