Guernsey v Ash United

Well Smudges take on all things Guernsey, they are just different gravy at this level.Aided and abetted by the C.C.L. Clubs that they have so far played.Cannot for the life of me think why Clubs have opted for 1 pm K.O. to suit them, when they are away. Now it has turned full circle and they are kicking off their home games at 1 pm,too save on fuel costs my guess,Or maybe Guernsey FANS will not venture out in the dark. The C.C.L. have also played their part too, being an international side, they have been given a winter break at Christmas. Then the little subject of 8 of their last 10 games being at home.Luck or planned,my own team Croydon have not had a home game in 3 weeks, great for raising a bit of revenue,I think not,and yes we have to play 2 games over the festive period, when players may not be available due to family committments, which could affect our results. But there is a ray of sunshine at the end of the rainbow, the ALL CONQUERING Guernsey R.F.C. of last season, who swept all before them, stepped up 1 level, and have lost 3 out of 9,all away I must add.But being the large sums of money that are available to Guernsey's dream,it would not suprise me that non island players, with no Guernsey connection were drafted in,for NO MONEY off course.Only time will tell, and if Windsor win the Prem, all us tax paying supporters may as well give up,thanks F.A.for dumping a bankrupt ex Windsor and Eton, under a new guise in our back yard.UP THE FELTHAM!!!!!!!!!!

As the ko time change has to be agreed between the two sides then it may be the other team that this suits?

I understood that on Saturday Ash United wanted a early ko as they were travelling back on Saturday and it was 1pm in case of extra time and penalties.

its all about give and take, we live on an island therefore allowances for the travel arrangements are always going to have to be made. Something that the CCL knew and accepted before GFC were allowed in.

As for the comments about the games over Christmas, I would think this has been done to ensure no team is stuck away from home at this special time and also the lack of flights as most flights are likely to be full. Imagine the problems if a team got stuck away from loved ones at Christmas.

Well said HKP, I agree with all of that. The early kick off times are to suit the away team as well.

Smudge i think HKP has brought up a valid point I know I would not like it, if supporting my team I could not get home

For Heston,s Christmas pud and think of the extra cost of staying in guernsey.

I will try to answer the question concerning fixtures for Guernsey over the Christmas period as this has come up once or twice. The League is playing twice over the Bank Holiday, on Tuesday 27 Dec and Mon 2 Jan. Most clubs involved will have one home match and one away and had Guernsey been involved, they would have been the same.

Prior to the season I sent an email to each Club Secretary in Division One asking if anyone would like to go to Guernsey over this period. Nobody wanted to do so. Rightly or wrongly, I decided as a result of that, not to involve Guernsey in fixtures on either of the two dates concerned. It was not something requested by Guernsey and I have no doubt that, had they been given two games, home or away, they would have fulfilled them without any fuss. I may be wrong, but had I insisted that one of our clubs went out there over this period, I suspect it would not have been popular.

Given that there are only 18 clubs in Div 1 this season, it means that we have plenty of spare capacity at present at the end of the season. Indeed, we will need a few postponements over the winter period to enable Div 1 to keep going through and up to the end of April!

Why the fact that they are not playing over the Christmas period is seen as being to Guernsey's advantage I am not sure, but I should perhaps mention, at this early stage, that should Guernsey go on to win promotion and play in the Premier Division next season with an increased number of matches, there will be no choice other than to use these Bank Holiday dates next season.

Ash Utd didnt ask for a 1pm ko but a 3pm, but Guernsey local authorities told the football club that they wanted them to kick-off at 1pm as of the local bonfire & firework display in the area & they didnt want supporters coming out of the ground the same time as people going to watch the display if the game had gone into extra time & pens. If we had more time to arrange the game the players really wanted to go over on friday & come back sunday like they did
