Most and Least 'Honest' Managers

Serious Sid

Most Managers never 'see it as it is' and make complete prats of themselves. The Harry Enfield lookalike is a classic example. I suppose Managers are not paid to criticise their own team but who do you think is the most 'honest' and who is the least?

What I know about football can be written on a postage stamp but as I started the thread I will go for most honest as Neil Warnock and of the many least honest Arsene Wenge must be up there.

Not sure if this should go on our other Forum but as it was instigated by the antics of Mr. King there is an AFCH connection.

Harry Redknapp doesn't mince his words regarding his own team although his off field activities are hardly honest!!

Would say the best is Ian Holloway.

Disagree with Serious Sid, Arsene Wenger must be one of the most honest managers in the top flight for what he has achieved by sticking to his principles of entertaining football, and giving his talented kids a chance, rather than buying success.

Most dishonest, Alex Ferguson because of the relentless pressure he puts on referees.

At non league level most managers are as honest as their job allows them to be, although most neutrals would probably agree that the management team at Concord don't fall into that category.

Wenger is made to look the devil by the press, who are united biased.

He says he doesn't see things because if he was to comment like he used to in his first couple of years he is then mocked in the press.Fergie is untouchable, the press love him and if he doesn't like something they say he simply refuses to talk to them like he did with the BBC,he has people like the mail sports editor in his pocket who he regards as a close friend

Alan, I meant 'honest' in terms of telling the truth. Wenger is an excellent Manager and achieved a great deal for Arsenal but how comes he never sees any incidents which show his players in the wrong? Wish I had a pound for each time he claimed to have "not seen" the incident.

Maybe Wenger does tell the odd porky, in defence of his players, which is acceptable in my opinion. Its the way he stays honest to his beliefs in the way his teams play football, and which is a joy to watch that I was thinking.

I suppose the managers that personified honesty at its best was Brian Clough, Bobby Robson, and Sir Alf Ramsey.

Forgot about Cloughie. He was a real 'no nonsense' type Manager. Bill Shankley was also a legend.

Watching MotD post match interviews with the Managers is a scream. Winning Manager says the Ref was good and got most decisions correct (praise indeed) and the losing Manager reckons the Ref was terrible and cost them the game. Great entertainment!
