Why's It So Quiet On Here?

Where's everyone gone? There wasn't even that much reflection on the Welling replay....

With Miller and Boot now out, can anyone see the Hodge & Deaner partnership working? Maybe with Steer and Spencer controlling the wings and delivering quality into the box, those two would thrive on that sort of service.

My line up for the next game:

Fossie

Haddow - Daly - Gyoury (if fit) or Brown - Howard

Steer - Wilkinson - Barrowcliff - Spencer

Hodge - Deaner

Subs:

Payne

Bartley

Hyatt

Briach

O'Rourke

The strength in depth of the squad is very concerning. Come the winter months when the injuries and suspensions hit, we're going to get screwed over. But saying that, I would be disappointed if Eddie signed anyone who wasn't good enough to get straight into the first team at present. There's no point in signing players not better than those you already have, but since the start of the season we've not really added any new faces to the squad which concerns me a touch. I hope Eddie will be re-inforcing the midfield, another versatile defender and one more striker at least to bolster the squad.

Err because we don't have a game for two weeks?

The replay: Slough unlucky to be there in the first place, start brightly before fading and making foolish mistakes. Basically same old same old.

Hopefully we will have a fairly fit team come the next match and it should line up (injuries permitting):

Fossie

Howard, Gyoury, Daly and Barras

Harris, Wilko, Spence and Steer

Hodge and Boot

Subs:

O'Rourke

Hyatt

Brown

Miller

Super Andy Deaner

One thing which we must realise though, is that Alex Haddow cup-tied himself by playing against Welling. That must mean something about his intention to stay and help us?

As for the Welling game Gary, I've probably said enough on the topic. We should never have been there on Tuesday, we should have been in Egham. But we can't really complain about losing on the night - what we can grumble about is not progressing first time round, and losing 1-4 which flattered Welling greatly (it was not a 'stroll' as their forum might suggest), losing Booty (huge loss), and losing Miller (I'm more and more impressed with him every game).

And no, I don't think Hodge and Deaner will work, I think if Denton has any sense he'll play Hodge alone up front with Spencer supporting and playing alongside if necessary. I don't think having the two big men up front would suit our style of play. I reckon Hyatt will also get in the team to support the attack (even though I don't rate him as a player, he seems too slow and unfit every time I see him, although he does get stuck in). I think we'll end up getting in two or three players, probably a couple of midfielders and a striker, probably on loan.

Although I do have to say I'm less depressed about going out of the FA Cup as I usually am (last season I was FURIOUS). But we can't realistically get to the First Round Proper every season - that's what makes those occasions so special. We really need to concentrate on getting 3 points from every league game, and runs in the Berks and Berks would be nice but not vital (although if we were to beat Maidenhead that would raise a bit of confidence). And the Bryco Cup? Haha !! Didn't we lose in the First Round of that last season? It looks like a nice run for the reserves, if we have any available !
