The two columns make very interesting reading and provide a timely reminder of some of the perhaps not so well remembered players who have made very significant contributions to the club's success over the years. Two of these from my time would be John Beyer and Tim Turl.

I believe Mr Norris was commonly referred to as "Tory" or "Torry" or somesuch. Of course, with a shorter season and no floodlights, players took part in fewer matches years ago. When I started watching Slough regularly there were only 30 league games a season. Against that, players tended to stay longer at clubs where they were settled, although I am old enough to remember the (for me as a young supporter) traumatic summer of 1959 when most of the first team "emigrated" to Maidenhead United and brought that club a sustained period of success lasting until the mid-60's.

Most of the smaller number of players who came to Slough with the Maidenhead manager moved on quite quickly and within a couple of seasons we were rooted at the bottom of the Corinthian League. This was an early (and cruel) introduction to the world of so-called "amateur" football in the 50's and 60's. But what went around came around and subsequently Slough signed more than a few of Maidenhead's better players, including Peter Lowen (59 goals in 52 appearances), Bobby Hatt and David Kemp who all made outstanding contributions to the Rebels' later on field successes.

For those interested I've now created a page showing the clubs all time top 20 appearance holders and goalscorers.

Tom, fascinating read.

Any chance of adding the years that the said player played ie 1987 -1991,1949-1951 etc, as neutrals and supporters who don't know certain past players, will then have a better idea of when the aforementioned player achieved their success and in what period/time zone.
