Unusual man, gave 9/10 of his income to charity. Argued with Margaret Thatcher but was a good friend, counselled Prince Charles and Princess Diana when their marriage was breaking up. Never shared his bed with anyone and was devoted to his mother.

A good man so RIP.

Loosely - What a strange thing to mention in your brief tribute

Yes, I suppose it is but like MU for some reason I never warmed to him. I remember watching Louis Theroux's programme on Jimmy and he was an odd character - I'd always suspected he was gay but private about it, turns out he was just celibate and preferred it that way. Maybe another Cliff Richard type but you have to respect their stance. I know someone who was on the Jim'll fix it production team and they did not like Jimmy but never would say why.

All the same for all his wealth and he did have a fleet of Rolls Royces, to give away 90% of your income to good causes is amazing. Saville had started his working life I think as a hospital porter at was it St Jimmys in Leeds or was it Stoke Manderville - I heard that he was always popular at Stoke Manderville and he even had a suite of rooms there so they thought well of him! Mind you he had a room at Chequers whenever he felt like it so his appeal was wide.

Still, an odd character and I suppose that when you feel cold towards someone like that you try to find reasons why. Anyway, must respect his good works so RIP.

Did you know that Sir Jimmy was a top racing cyclist in the early 1950's? He rode in the Tour of Britain "Milk Race" amongst others.

I did not know that. I know that he claimed to be the first DJ in the UK though, using two record decks in 1947.

Speaking to people,it seems he wasn't at all popular with many.

One local bloke who does alot for charity, especially for victims with spinal injuries took a young lad in a wheelchair to Stoke mandeville to see a friend who he became close to while he himself was in there.

Jimmy was there so the bloke asked if jimmy could give the lad an autograph, jimmy responded with "look mate,I've had a long day and want to go home so fck off"

The bloke started laughing thinking it was a joke and Jimmy said "I ain't joking mate, leave me alone" got hold of the wheelchair and pushed it down the corridor.

Maybe he had had a sh1tty day but not too sure why you would react like that.

I've also heard conflicting reports of his 'good-deeds' at Stoke Mandeville, but let it rest.

He obviouysly gave a lot of time and money to charity.

I found it sad that he died alone and in his sleep.
