How can we improve on our home attendances?

Over the last few years our attendances have been increasing fantastically thanks to our promotions and overall higher profile in the county.

We average I'd say nearly 1000 per home game on a Saturday and possibly 700 on a midweek game.

I agree this is very good but if we're to get regular crowds of say 5000 every week, how can we do this?

One idea might be to let kids in for a quid on matchdays, get them involved and supporting us instead of our higher profile neighbours Romford, Purfleet etc.

Another idea might be to get the players to go around the schools and meeting the kids in the community and handing out goodies to them, such as pennants or pin Hornchurch pin badges.

Have any of you got any ideas that could help improve our home gates?

have you been drinking or what....

firstly we have by far the highest profile in the essex non league scene...no contest...Romford and Purfleet average about a 100 if their lucky...

secondly we do let the kids in for a quid...free if under 12 and accompanied....

last seaon we did give away shirts... hats and scarves....5 grands worth but you can't keep doing it...

we're doing okay with the gates....it'll take 10 years of good results to get a 5000 average crowd at non league or even conference level...if ever possible....

send me some of that there 'fuel' you've been on...

Haven't been drinking Urchin, I wasn't aware of the freebies you mention, how do you know this anyway?

I think your probably mistaken in terms of our profile though, surely Dagenham or Canvey are higher profile, both of whom have been on the tele (National tele not Sky) in recent years.

I know about the freebies cos I was the one who made the decision to hand 'em out....all through last season we did it....

you do have a point about the Daggers and Canvey but I'm pretty sure that HFC are more widely publicised than they are....

they're just pub teams aint they....

The last person/team that called us a pub team lived to regret it!

he he...chill YA...we're all 'pub teams' down here....thats the fun of it....

no need to be aggrieved 'cos your the original 'pub team'...wear it with pride.....

come to think about it...I think I'll buy the Bridge House and rename it the 'Urchins Pride'...

now that is a good idea....

I think the backroom team have done a fantastic job with the promotion/advertising of the club...well done. The freebies worked well for a time and have sold the club to the local kids.

We have come a long way from 2 seasons ago and it was great to see queues at the turnstiles at a recent game and 842 people at Billericay.

We will continue to attract interest as our success grows but have to accept that a lot of locals support West Ham or Dagenham (it will take time to convert them). A good FA Cup run would help in that respect but that is down to the players and a bit of luck.

There are hundreds of things that you can do to increase our attendence.

Here is a free one, give out a prize to the local schools for their christmas raffle, i.e. meal for a table for four at a home match.

Sponsor the local schools with football strips in Urchins colours. (sorry thats two)

But I must admit that last year the backroom staff did an excellant job, with the free scarfs and hats, the article onthe FA website was also a good bit of PR.

As with the team it takes time to build a support base.

Try bring a friend night(sorry thats three).

In reading this and "can we ever win the premiership" I can now safely assume the shuttle from Pluto (first call Disney world second call hornchurch ) is still a regular service every other Wednesday

It would be sad to see all the money and expertise in place be wasted due to idiot driven expectations

You may make Conference (one) in a season it may take three or four but to take it beyond that worthy target lacks the common sense gained in observing Aldershot, R-Diamonds, Daggers and CICF ETC.

Enjoy the flowers along the way
