natural finisher past and present???

Recommended Posts

Not being that au fait with CCL Div. 1 I believe that South Park would have been lost last season had it not been for C. Smith 30 league goals (is that you Molly?) and Lavery 27 league goals plus more goals one would assume in their cup campaigns ?

I notice that scoring seems a little harder for them both in the CCL Permier though.

Can't remeber his name, but there was a guy who used to play for Ash about 12 years ago, always seemed to score but for some reason ended up in the reserves. Had a crew cut, thats all I can remember.

That was Scott Joyce TC he was the sort of lad that gave 110 per cent every game and he looked like a bulldog

Jay Holden 3 years ago in div 1

Prolific

Truth is in the pudding Pagey, like many others, prolific in CCL Div.1 but not so in CCL Premier.

Respectfully,,at Div. 1 level defences are not as good and are liable to making more defensive mistakes, so any decent striker who has the calibre of scoring will get a handful of goals, but the higher level you go, the better the defences and less mistakes so opportunities are less hence less goals.

I seem to recall that Pomroy went to Rymans as a prolific CCL goalscorer, but failed to repeat his achievements he had at CCL level. I suppose I am trying to say that players/strikers will eventually realise their level.

Yep Shaun Mitchell and the other guy who played up top with him, short lump with short black hair! A frightening combo all those years ago and use to hate playing against them with the likes of Jason Lay and James Blason supporting from mdfield!!

You could go on forever, Mc D at Warlingham was tasty on his day and very old skool! Coops was also a very good striker, as was a young lad I played with at Feltham a few years back called Stefan Smith-Hiebner who I believe had a spell at Frimley last season. 4-5 years ago he turned down so many offers at this level and even chances at pro level but he liked his 'youth' shall we say and unfortunately landed up in prison for a bit, think he's out now. He had pace, power, skill and everything he hit went it. Shame really, a wasted talent!!

Wattsy / TC

Shaun Mitchell & Scott Joyce, both 40 plus a season with more coming from Jamie Horton & Tony Calvert.. We had another at Ash in Dave Hooker.

C.Smith been out all season so far.... been on the bench last couple of games so hopefully back scoring soon!

Lavery also only played a handful of games due to injury, but yes, not yet found the form of last season..... its coming though!

Joycey - sounds right. Hated playing against him.

In terms of the present players, Ross Allen has 23 in 14 league games (and 1 in 1 cup game, and 7 in 3 pre-season friendlies, making 31 in 18 in total for the season). If he carries on at that rate, he will have 56 in 34 league games, and no doubt more in total if Guernsey have some cup runs, which isn't too bad a return!

Not sure how close Gary James/any others are running him for the golden boot...does anyone know?

Scott Joyce and Shaun Mitchell at Ash.

Our centre half at Ash back then would score a minimum of 15 goals a season guaranteed with at least 12 of them coming from the spot due to Shaun winning the pens. U just couldnt tackle him in the box. He was called Magic Mitchell.

There was a striker at Ash called 'Fish' who just couldnt break into the 1st team cos of Joycey and Mtchell. He was an absolute fox in the box and top quality. I arrived at Ash as a striker released from Farnboro Town and deputised for Joycey when he got a huge suspension but was soon dropped when he got back. I then dropped into midfield. The rest is history.

The names that stand out in my time in the ccl are: Mark Anderson (Sandhurst), Ian Mancey (Cove), Coops (AFC), Pommers (Chertsey), Shaun Mitchell (Ash), G. Senior (N.Greenford)

Would go along with that TC, he was a nightmare to play against - always seemed to score against us when I was at Vale.

We had a decent lad ourselves, late 90's, in Emmy Barrs-James

Matt Everard got 40 goals in 100 appearances for AFC Wimbledon, according to the stats. Not bad for a central defender who wasn't the penalty taker!

Top man....he scored against AFC when Ash beat them but then when he went to AFC, he kept scoring against us

Yes remember that, only our third ever game and lost a 2-0 lead! Monday morning kick-off. Did he get his fair share of goals at Ash?

Can't really comment on present as my boots are well and truly hung up now but not sure anyone can argue with Ross Allen based purely on the stats.

Past, a few stand out but the first couple may have been in the Surrey Senior League before it became Coco Div 1.

Poole single handedly got Frmley Green promotion, lightning quick and around the same time Matt Charker who played for Sheerwater made a poor side dangerous , Kev Rayner (Farleigh manager at the time) once asked me to put a big tackle in on him in the first few minutes and i was booked within about 20 seconds after he had taken kick off.

Without doubt though Jay Coombes in Div 1 has stood out for consistancy over the years, seemed to always nick a goal even when seemingly out of the game. Remember one game at Staines which we were winning 2-1 and we had kept Coombes very quiet, last couple of minutes our keeper came out to clear a ball upfield and kicked it straight against Jay, hit his [****!!****] and found its way into the net. You can't teach that! Couldn't turn off for a second when marking him.
