Midweek Fixtures & Results (Tuesday 25th & Wednesday 26th October)

Craig, that lad Anthony was mustard, look sharp given it was his first outing for you and was unlucky with that effort he had that came back off the crossbar.

And you're right, had Macca played how long would he have lasted.....

Have to say one of the cleanest games I've seen in a while, maybe one booking was warranted but the rest, oh well as long as the Ref got home by 10 or Mummy wouldn't allow him out again.

on a good note hughesy is back with us sat after missing last 3 games .

It's a tough job perhaps the league could try and encourage ex players to take up the whistle....

There is a former Tring Athletic player now on the SSML list this season. He stopped playing about 4 years ago & had done 2-300 first team games but was missing football so is giving officiating a go & enjoying it so far.

I did my refs exams when I was 17 and did a few games at the time but didn't keep it up as I was playing both Saturday & Sunday. No idea what I'll do when the body finally gives out but at the moment donning the black kit isn't the first thing that springs to mind

These days the higher up you go the more 'by the book' approach is adapted.

Out of interest what did you think of Ben Furneaux when he Officiated on the SSML, he has gone onto bigger and better things now but I've never seen a Referee brandish a card like he did, he had a trademark style, a bit like your good self running the line.

I've always found Mr Furneaux to be an excellent Referee and it was no surprise when he was promoted to L3.

On my local League we rely on letters from the Clubs if a Referee puts in a below average performance.

You mean the KOPA League, are you too ashamed to name it!

Do you ever get anything right on this forum?

I was referring to the Islington Midweek Football League.

I didn't say he wasn't an excellent Referee infact he could easily go all the way, it's just comical how he brandishes a card be it yellow or red

I always thought he was poor. He was the first of many I reported in our first season back in the SSMFL. And we won the game 5-0.

Why didn't you say that in the first place instead of describing it as 'my local league', anyway you live in Haringey or have you recently moved to Islington

Scottie_DTFC – The first time I encountered Ben Furneaux was in August 2006 when I was with Kentish Town, we beat Brache Sparta 8-2 but I was very close to reporting him for his over zealousness, over the next two or three seasons though I warmed to his no nonsense approach and am now his biggest fan.

It is my local League and I still live in Haringey.

So do you not Officiate at all anymore on the KOPA League, surely they rope you in from time to time

No. 4 - "They don't seem to accept playing the ball and the man is a fair tackle"

We had championship official doing our game on Sunday and he said these tackles are being discouraged. (After what looked like a good tackle to me on one of our players was blown as a foul).

It won't be long before slide tackles are ruled out all together, I honestly believe that!

Really, I'm surprised to hear that, I thought you dropped everything for the KOPA League and when they say jump you ask how high
