Gotta be honest a very good and unbiased report,we are gutted not to have at least gone to extra time where i think we may have nicked it,but to be fair to them a very pacey and strong team, and as there keeper said "if u dont take ya chances u dont win" and he is right, but we need to do a lot of work defensivly,we r scoring for fun but conceeding sloppy goals,,good luck to Tring in the next round very nice club and people

Tring are no mugs, their coach tony armitage contacted me last week to say hes there, would love to have him involved at Gardiners Close but hes not local.

Basil-Don - Tony wouldn't be out of place in the Premiership, he's the real deal

There's also a report on another's Forum:

FA Vase 1st Round

Tring Athletic 3-2 Hullbridge Sports

Adm £5, prog £1 (not bad), burger £2.50 (v good), tea 50p (in a proper mug, good)

A glorious day of bright sunshine had Tring looking very pretty. Obviously very affluent but maybe not quite as pretentious as Berkhamsted just down the road where I was a few weeks back.

The car park is large but seems to be shared with parking for the adjacent rugby and squash clubs so even at just gone 2pm there were only a handful of spaces left. Being on the outskirts of town there isn't an abundance of side streets so most late arrival parked on the grass verge which led to some entertainment and close shaves at the end of the game.

Lots of friendly volunteers about the place. Tidy club house with a tea hatch at one end and a bar down one side which was advertising local beers. Sky on the box and lots of historical photos on the walls. An excellent home made stand, quite unique, though avoid the back row if you're more the 5ft 5 or so.

The game took a while to get going with the first 15 minutes or so a case of nothing quite coming off for either side. Hullbridge finally made the breakthrough when their ever-busy striker chased a lost cause which turned out to have a healthy back spin onit, holding it up near the goal line, and he somehow managed to score from a very tight angle. The home side then clicked into gear and equalised before half time.

The second half was more entertaining. Tring were generally the better side but Hullbridge always looked dangerous on the break, especially when they went to playing three up front on going 3-1 down. Tring's third had an element of controversy about it. A forward was clumsily tackled in the box with the usual howls for a penalty but since he only stumbled, regained his feet and still had the ball, there was a clear cry of play on from the ref. Play continued for several seconds as he dummied the keeper, took anouther couple of touches and finally slotted the ball back across from the far side of the goal...into the side netting. Whereupon the ref pointed to the spot. It seemed a very long time to have played the advantage AND then bring it back.

Hullbridge got a second goal about 10-15 from the end and it was then a very good game as they sensed they could get an equaliser while Tring realised they probably needed another to kill things off and couldn't rely on defending. The entertainment was prolonged by an injury to the ref meaning it was very nearly 5pm when the game ended. With just a few minutes to go, Hullbridge put a good move together, tore down the right, crossed the ball, the guy in the middle who was marked cleverly left it, just prodding it further wide to the totally unmarked no 9, 4 yards out, on his hat-trick, and he puts it 20ft over the bar.

The game was played in good spirits for the most part, only one nasty incident involving the away no 10 though that seemed to fizzle out quickly. Helped I think in part by the ref who, early on in the game, responded to several claims for free kicks over the slightest contact with a shout of "GERRRONNNWIIITHIIIT" which seemed to stop the moaning.

To be honest there was a report on another forum that summed it up..

The football match always lives on key moments. The referee who had an Italian surname by the look of it,did ok for all game but the penalty that was a big mistake. He played on and the fella had ages to put the ball into the net but he failed. It should have been a goal kick.Different was if it would have happened in the middle of the park and the fella got dis-possessed.3-1 and that proved crucial in the end. There should have been a penalty on Podge in the first half but our lad was too honest and stayed on his feet.Same situation different decision. Now out of curiosity anyone out there with a bit of FA laws know how.One of their players Connor Waite(striker for the team we beat last year Langford)was injured in the warm-up.They asked if they could replace him with someone that wasn't originally on the 16s team list presented at 2.15 pm.I didn't agree with it because I believe you can only do it with someone that was on the 16 players list originally presented to the ref at 2.15 pm.The ref and his linesman who looked at home.said they could do it.I would appreciate a bit of info on this because that was really news to me.
