Romford Recorder

Advertisement doesn't just have to be in papers and newsagents. I would have thought the majority of people who get the recorder read the front pages and some of the inside rather than the back. I know some of the front pages catch my attention before I even look at the back! One of the best ways of getting more people through the gate is bringing someone you know along to a game, particularly if they have little interest in football. it might sound silly, but that's how I got involved. This has become harder though, as many people who I have asked already have other sports and activities going on during Saturdays that they don't want to replace.

I know we've been down this road before, but is there any other way of promoting Hx?

The Romford Recorder is always going to be biased towards Romford despite being sold in the whole of Havering.

Its not the Romford Recorders fault gates are down for both our clubs. Promoting (advertising) if done properly cost money that we can ill afford, so wouldn't it be better to work together and halve the costs involved. We could also try staggering match days so one club plays Saturday, and the other plays Sunday or even Friday nights (in the warmer months of the season). We could also try making each others supporters more welcome by offering half price entry for the other clubs fans.

I'm not for one minute blaming the Romford Recorder for attendances being down, a bit more parity on the coverage of the teams would be nice but I fully accept that dropping attendances is a far deeper issue than that (games consoles, DVD/Blu-Ray/3D/Sky/Cable/Internet, economic climate etc).

Of course sharing costs in terms of advertising would help both clubs. Not sure too many fans from either Romford or Hornchurch would watch the other team though.

If a ground share is not going to happen what about a paper share? :biglaugh:

If Romford really wanted a groundshare to happen then all negotiation would be between us and LBH. If Hornchurch failed to give the approval needed to the Rymans League then both clubs would end up in the Essex senior League. If it was down to me, I would call your bluff and Romford would be playing at Bridge Avenue next season.

The Supporters Association are always trying to come up with ideas to increase the gate/profile of the club.

I have written to a few local schools offering their pupils under 12 free season tickets, unfortunately since then we don't have a home game scheduled for over a month now so by then it may be far from their thought although I will send it again to all the schools nearer the time.

For me,nothing does more for gates than league position and last Saturday we went top and the day before the back page was about Romford losing 4-1 at tilbury and no mention about us going top whatsoever which for me is either bad journalism or just shows that the paper has a Romford Fc biased.

The paper has always claimed to want to help both clubs which is fine, and I can understand why Romfords day today made the back page as it is a good initiative but both clubs if anything should at least share the back page weekly albeit one club may only have a small column

Alan, you called our bluff before and nothing happened.

To be honest if you could stump up £50'000 for a new pitch and build a new bar for both clubs fans to use I would actually warm to the idea as the costs for the ground are going up but that's not going to happen and I don't want to watch sh1te football on a pitch that can't handle a groundshare

£50,000 for a new pitch would be quite easy to raise, and while I think you clubhouse is fantastic, I personally would prefer Romford to have their own bar.

Are you still coming this afternoon?

I like our clubhouse but personally it is used for functions nowadays and I think a revenue stream for football clubs should be that a bar is open 7 days a week for fans/locals to drink socialise

As for today, haven't made my mind up yet as I want to watch man city v united and the two clash, although I may pop over for the first half

£50,000 easy to raise? Blimey he's moved onto fantasy football now. The boro bonanza has raised about £2000 in just under two years so I presume that's not where any monies would come from or if it is it will be a long wait. As for the groundshare , well if romford can guarantee to patronise our bar to the tune of let's say £500 per home game then I'm all for it, hang on haven't we been here before :biglaugh:

PS I may well pop over to Aveley for the 2nd half when it should be free entry. I can't afford the half price entry and couldn't stretch to a burger or cuppa either. :

Well I see that Romford lost 2-1 at home to Leiston in front of 156 fans,my source at the game said that there were around 40 Leiston fans present and a splattering of hornchurch and dagenham fans at the ground so it doesn't look like it was that successful, perhaps the recorder should concentrate on the boroughs ONLY club to play football at senior level IN THE BOROUGH

Gareth Heath scored a penalty on 6 mins. 0-1

Joe Jefford touched in from an inswinging corner 76 mins after Luke Hammond had hit the bar from the half way line - 0-2

Paul White scored on 83 mins - this was Romford's first shot on target - 1-2

Romford had five players booked.

I did not notice many Leiston supporters there (possibly about ten) - the ground was very quiet and my impression was that the majority were there simply because there was no other match on.

Not a particularly good game, though the strong wind may have affected the standard of play.

Michael Brothers played for Leiston.

156 they must be over the moon apart form the fact they lost although I'm not quite sure the extra takings will allow them to start building the new stadium as yet??

£50,000 is a relatively easy sum to to raise through grants, for a club with no debts, and a properly costed project that enhances sport and benefits the sporting community. Its also much easier if grants are raised in partnershop with a local authority. Thats not fantasy football but fact.

Raising £1.3million for a new stadium is a totally different ball game, as well you know because AFCH had similar ambitions not too many years ago.

As fair a report as could be reasonably expected, except no mention that the Leiston goalkeeper was marginally the busier of the two keepers, the referee was quite frankly shocking (not trying to use that as an excuse) and there was another match on, and I would imagine today's Manchester derbies viewing figures was close to a TV viewing record for a televised premiership match.

Oh I see it's just reliant on others and handouts. By implication presumably the £2000 available from the Boro Bonanza is supplemental to the £50000+ you have already secured?
