Monday 24th October: Windsor v Camberley Town

Recommended Posts

Didn't see the actual challenge myself as I'd just walked into the bar but speaking to Camberley fans, neutrals and Windsor fans during the rest of the game and I didn't find anyone else who thought it was a red. Andy, our web fella, found one bloke who agreed with the ref though. Maybe that was Weebs or maybe there was a silent majority there who thought the red was deserved?

What I did see was the Windsor player acting like he had a broken leg and then miraculously running around 20 seconds later after the magic sponge. Still, it worked as the ref fell for it. I notice he didn't get the card out straight away though. It was as if he was waiting to see how badly the player was hurt before deciding on the punishment. I'm pretty certain that's not how it should be done.

The ref also missed the Windsor 2's elbows and he missed Mep's shirt being pulled in the box when he could have been in during the first half. When asked if he'd seen it the ref threatened to send Meps off.

For me the ref ruined what could have been an interesting game. If we had 11 on the pitch it could have been a completely different outcome.

It's refs like that that have made me almost give up on CCL football. Worst thing is I've known him for years and he's a good lad but my heart sank when I saw him warming up before the game. I just don't think he's good enough for this level.

And there's no point putting in a report as whoever looks at these things ignores what's written and concentrates on spelling mistakes. Old school tie and all that. I've had enough of it.

On a positive note - I was pleased with the way we played but we were never going to win once we were down to 10.

Sending off was right... Camberley played most of the football even with 10 men and could have gone in 2 up at half time. Second half good goal from wide ... 1st time Windsor got the ball out wide and a defo pen.... Keeper maybe a bit lucky not to see red aswell ... not even a card. Camberley are a good footballing side and with 11 men who knows. I would say tho I am not sure about the intent but it was a red card... The 11 looked a decent player aswell so it must have hurt Cambo to lose him.

Enjoyed my nite and interesting to see Mr Day and Mr Cooper in attendance...

Ben Hill by any chance????

Louis Hibbert.

Was'nt me mate I don't talk at games to people about decisions...Still think definate red but not sure of the intent and agree it was a pen when shirt was pulled but the lad was too honest. If he had gone down which he should have rather than try and stay up then the ref would have had to make a decision. Thought the ref made a rod for his own back when he did not take control of the game early doors when there was a bit of niggle going on.

Anyway as I said Camberley were the better footballing side and out of the two of them I know what I would prefer to watch week in week out.

Good luck to both teams

It was a nasty challenge, only a few yards from where I was standing. Some thought it was 2 footed, I'm not so sure, but would have accepted yellow card, not surprised at red.

Ben Porter, the "recipient" of the foul, did NOT suddenly spring up, he remained on the ground in pain for a couple of minutes, then he limped off and, once the ref him back on, started playing football again. So, once the initial effects of the challenge have worn off would you rather he played to the audience and carried on limping?

As it happens he carried on for quite a while but was eventually substituted in obvious discomfort.

To suggest he was play-acting is daft.

not really why does he even answer that, to me its that the ref didnt have the kahunas to say why hed given the descision an therefore used his assistant to get out of it

Player in talking bs after losing a game shocker.

To be fair the ref probably got bored with the Camberley players shouting "ref, ref, ref, ref" every 30 seconds, so couldn't be bothered explaining himself to them in the end.

ive spoken to a player this morning about this referee an he said all the big descisions he just said my assistant had given it he was in a better position!

Good teamwork then!

We must of had the same Ref at Redhill tonight TEAMWORK,thats the new buzz word for 2011 then.

Perhaps what the ref meant was that, as per his pre-match instructions to them, it was credible for the ARs to get involved and assist the referee by indicating fouls particularly if they had a better view of an incident. By that I mean the infringement was facing the AR and it was credible for him to flag, he was blind-sided or had his view obstructed by the movement of players; in effect, where the referee would not be able to see. As Footy Mad states, this is teamwork.

Referees cannot be expected to see everything hence the involvement of the ARs to assist in this. Too often players will say to an AR 'you saw that, why didn't give it?', the response to that being 'the ref's in a better position to do so' and therefore there's no need for me (the AR) to get involved. Conversely, if I (the AR) do get involved then it's because it's credible for me do so in order to support the referee in his match control. That is, i've seen something and i'm indicating that to the referee.

Additionally, during the pre-match instructions, the ref might advise his ARs to judge their involvement on the tempo of the game and how / what the referee is doing in respect of that, i.e. a feisty / niggly game might require more involvement whereas the opposite might be the case when teams are more interested in playing than bitching and moaning at each other.

In the same way that you would support your teammates and rely on them to fulfil their responsibilities to each other - for instance, tracking back to cover the full-back who's bombed forward on a run, taking the post at corners, etc, etc - so referees would expect their ARs to fulfil their responsibilities to him and the officials team.

Ultimately, the referee makes the decisions BUT he will do so on the basis of considering the assistance and support of his ARs when it's appropriate to do so and to make the correct decision.

the ref im informed is the way he said it as if he was turning the attention away from himself onto his ar with no explanation just a repeat of what was first said now i know refs dont want to speak about every decision neither do players but the big ones a better explanation rather than deflecting it , a player will not go over to the ar at this standard of football unless a few yards away it will be a shout a swear an thats why the referee has done this imo possibly call it clever lol
