Staines Lammas v Guernsey

Recommended Posts

My first view of Guernsey and I was fairly impressed. I echo Johnno's thoughts that they looked like a top 4 Premier Division side. They worked hard, they were sharp and did some lovely passing which will rip apart some Premier teams next season. It wouldn't surprise me if they won the Premier Division but it also wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. If they're consistent they're in with a good shout.

Fair play to Lammas though who gave them a good game, especially early on.

Saw a few posters from this site and the other one but I don't particularly want to meet any of you, no doubt you're the same with me, so I didn't bother saying hello.

Regarding Camberley NG - we're going through a dodgy patch. We've had some injuries but that's not an excuse as, like every team, there are always players missing through injury or suspension - we're just low on confidence. Sack the board / sack the manager / sack the players or whatever it is you want me to say.

Thanks. I understand VP you want to be protective of your Camberley, but I do find your comments very strange at the end ? That is not what I want hear. I asked a legitimate question requesting your opinion on why Camberley are having such a bad run at the moment, which is something you cannot really relate to of recent seasons.

Why don't you want to meet any forumites VP ?

It is good to see people being honest, alot of people would make the normal excuses after a game like this but fair play to Redrup and other forumites who don't take Guernsey to thier hearts have been quite complementary of them.

Yes They are a very fit side and until you play against them you don't realise how fit they are, they seem to want to win every ball and dare i say it seem to want it that much more than other teams in the league.

Even if they don't get the desired result on the weekend they will still be promoted and will give a good account of them selves in the CCL Prem. Not sure they are as some are suggesting Ryman standard, unless they pick up a few signings along the way which would go against thier ethics for them entering this League structure.

Staines a bit unlucky with the first 2 goals... Free kick terrible wall and keeper in wrong position 2nd goal deflection and Staines had a few chances of their own. gUERNSEY WANT TO WIN EVERY BALL.. iT LOOKS AS IF EVERY CHALLENGE MEANS SO MUCH TO THEM AND THEY CAN PLAY A BIT ASWELL. sTILL THINK IF YOU COULD MOVE THE BALL AROUND A BIT QUICKER AND USE WIDTH AGAINST THEM THEY ( Sorry turned into NG then ) may have a problem . The 8 and the 6 dominated middle of park and always had time on the ball with little pressure coming from the Lammas. 7 runs off the 6 and 8 and the 10 always looking sharp and alert. 2nd half Guernsey hit the bar / post and Staines keeper made a few good saves. Meet GD who is a nice guy as all the Guernsey supporters are. Think at best they will be a decent side in the CCL prem next year unless they get a few additions or if they had players out I dont know.Nice to bump into a few Forumites and well done to both sides and well done to Ashford for a great playing surface...

Yep, fair assessment Weebs ! But sorry, why do you say unlucky with the goals? Surely if the wall was poor and keeper badly placed, why is that unlucky ? Thats simply bad organising, ill disciplined and poor error made by the keeper for his starting position. Yes, any deflection goal is unlucky that I agree.

In my opinion. Sorry Reds, thought Lammas were outclassed, bar your early opportunities, I thought Lammas were beaten by a good team who appeared to have the desire, hunger, being sharper, pressed quicker, more determined, better passing and movement. Not saying Lammas didn't try but as already posted, fitness in the last 20 mins was there for all to see. Guernsey players are always in a showcase for every game, and no doubt proud to be a Guernseyrite, so they want to show the UK mainland what it means to them individually and as a team. I think ALL involved at Guernsey FC its more than winning.......(if that makes sense ?)

Personally, my view is that Guernsey are very professional (one of a few) I have seen, and that was evident in their discipline. I believe they set a precedent for other Div 1 clubs to follow to improve their own standards. BUT let's not forget, other Div. 1 clubs are actually playing against a NATIONAL side, not a club side having their whole island of players to choose from. Sometimes I think people seem to forget this, so yes, whilst I admire Guernsey as a club/national team, their players and their style of play, this cannot be ignored, so in fairness, under these circumstances they should and are expected to win most of their games and the league.

Yep... Free kick not unlucky just bad orgainisation and why do keepers make a wall and then stand behind it.... If u cover one side and stand the other then fair play if the taker can get it up over and in but to stand behind a badly built wall is asking for trouble. But then again leaning against a badly built wall is much the same as was proven last night by the tea bar as a wall went over... Well 2 blocks anyway..

Did see u l last nite but thought I would leave you alone....

I agree NG, when were beaten by the better team I have no problems accepting that. Guernsey WERE and ARE simply better than us all over the pitch. If we score early on the who knows but we never. I enjoyed every minute of the occasion. They might of had teams missing but the team that played last night would still do well in the prem. Our forward play wasn't good and resulted to long ball again which we have to stop quickly. Bedfotn will give them a better game than us but will they be able to get the goals.

Not much to add to all the other comments on last night's game. Guernsey were deserved winners and played some cracking football at times. Tony Vance will have some tough decisions to make on Saturday if the likes of Zico, Dyer and Rihoy are fit again because their 'undertudies' played very well last night. Lammas did create some chances, particularly early on, but their finishing was wayward to say the least! And they seemed to struggle to get any kind of support to the strikers - the long ball tactic left them very isolated.

I'm looking forward to the Bedfont match now, and feel hopeful of 3 more points :)

Talking to a couple of the guernsey players and they said they were staying at the Hilton hotel!! Very nice! Also a copule of questions to guernsey. Are the staying here til saturday? If so how can they afford to take time of work or do guernsey cover their expenses?

They did that after our midweek game against them. They were then flying back on the first flight in the morning, so could basically get back to work the following day.

Think this is the case for any midweek away game, as they don't have time to catch the last flight (please correct me if I am wrong though).

no better than chertsey last season guernsey , allen descent but i was more impressed with heaume an blond attacker cant take nothing away from allen just keeps scoring but not head an shoulders above . keeper solid with his defence an they want to win every ball but if others dont why the feck are you playing football!

lammas had chances an unlucky not to score more that said guernsey hit bar an post an had chances football wise not a big gap but there is one. imo they will win league as there fitness level is supreme players technically all good on the ball and under pressure an like brunty said no weak link though id like to see out an out wingers against there fullbacks!

donkey i saw you in que to get in then didnt see you again , redders lucky to stay on?? lol

He was maybe a touch lucky to stay on lol ;) But I spoke to him after the match and hes a nice guy so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt ! lol

Well my prediction of 3-1 was correct ! ;)

We played very well last night. Our work rate and fitness was top notch.

We were missing a few of our best players Ryan Zico Black, Dave Rihoy, Glyn Dyer and Chris Tardif ( all of these would normally start ). Our players that have come in to cover have played very well and will cause Tony Vance a bit of a selection headache.

I met Weeble, Redrup and some other Guernsey Forumites all are really nice people.

I think from what people are saying that people are starting to warm to us, even the doubters.

The Staines players and fans were brilliant in defeat.

I was really pleased to see a big turnout from our fans, we sang a few songs and had a great laugh ! bring on Bedfont ! :D

They fly out at 2.30 on the day and back at 8.30am the next day, so can be back at work by 10am the following morning having left at 1pm the day before. They stay in the Gatwick Hilton and have negotiated a good deal based on the number of away trips they will be doing over the season. From what I hear some have to take time as holiday, some take time off unpaid, and some have to work an extra hour each day that week to make up the time. Depends who your boss is I guess!

Absolutely delighted with the comments on here about GFC - kind words from other CCL players, coaches and fans alike. Football is a results game but I'm incredibly proud of the Guernsey lads who know how to win (and lose) with good grace. On the pitch, they give every ounce of effort, are disciplined and are learning not only to play great football that opens teams up but also to defend and do the ugly things well - consistency of performance has been remarkable given the number of players used. Tony Vance, Colin Fallaize and Mark Le Tissier - "tek a boo". They are three leaders of men who deserve immense credit. I didn't expect performances to have been as good as they have been.

Ok - soft stuff out of the way with, no point patting everyone on the back now if local politics, fatigue and logistics mean that the momentum is lost. I'd back them to keep going but its a monumental effort from the lads and those who work so hard off the pitch. But they knew it wouldn't be easy.
