Staines Lammas v Guernsey

Recommended Posts

Well done lammas gave a decent account of yourselves, must say guernsey are a class outfit and what impressed me most was their work ethic. Non stop for 90 minutes kept the tempo up all game and tired the lammas boys out who to their credit didnt stop working! Did enjoy redrups tackle on the 2 in the corner! Not looking forward to playing against the greens in a couple of weeks especially in the form we are in!

Staines a bit unlucky with the first 2 goals... Free kick terrible wall and keeper in wrong position 2nd goal deflection and Staines had a few chances of their own. gUERNSEY WANT TO WIN EVERY BALL.. iT LOOKS AS IF EVERY CHALLENGE MEANS SO MUCH TO THEM AND THEY CAN PLAY A BIT ASWELL. sTILL THINK IF YOU COULD MOVE THE BALL AROUND A BIT QUICKER AND USE WIDTH AGAINST THEM THEY ( Sorry turned into NG then ) may have a problem . The 8 and the 6 dominated middle of park and always had time on the ball with little pressure coming from the Lammas. 7 runs off the 6 and 8 and the 10 always looking sharp and alert. 2nd half Guernsey hit the bar / post and Staines keeper made a few good saves. Meet GD who is a nice guy as all the Guernsey supporters are. Think at best they will be a decent side in the CCL prem next year unless they get a few additions or if they had players out I dont know.Nice to bump into a few Forumites and well done to both sides and well done to Ashford for a great playing surface...

I absoluteley loved the experience. Guernsey took us to skool!! Deadly strike force didn't turn up!! First 10 baxter had a 1 on 1 but messed it up. Had a few chances to score! Weakened team or not in my opinion everyone of them players would get in the teams in our league. Allens movement is class, can see why he's so rated. Met guernsey donkey, nice fella!! Gutted we lost but have no complaints. Well done guernsey!!

If that's a weakened Guernsey side then they must be a he'll of a team with there full squad.

I was with Chertsey last year and we were a decent side, how ever I think Guernsey will win Div 1 and the Prem at a canter and the boy Ross Allen is playing well below his standard, he's quality.

Bedfont Sports were there to see tonights match and they will be right up for there match on Saturday, they will have to be at there best to get any kind of result against Guernsey.

Good luckto both teams and well fought Lammas tonight.

Wow what a great result. Thanks to all those who kept posting the scores and also for the kind words. It is fantastic to win away mid-week and I am so pleased that the squad depth is there. And it is true that we are without 4 guaranteed first teamers, but then noone ever really fields their "on-paper" full strength line-up once the season gets going.

Weeble - your words pleased me too. There was a lot of speculation that maybe the winter pitches and tough away trips later in the season would trip us up, but its great to hear that the boys are getting stuck in.

Was just on the phone to Brunty and was saying the same as smudge. 2 soft goals given away by Lammas after the home team had squandered 2 great opportunities. Left back for guernsey was the best player out there. Defended well and never gave the ball away. Allen is decent but would only rate him as good as any other step 4 striker.

Guernsey I would say from what I saw today are only as good as a top 4 ccl prem team. If the players missing are better then they will have a good chance of challenging for promotion to step 4 next season. We all knew it but they will win ccl1 by February.

We gave away 2 soft goals, like weebs said free kick was a shambles, wall was put on the wrong side of post and then a deflected shot goes in. 2 nil down a half time was always guna be tough. We had a few chances but our finishing was awful. The night we needed them and they didn't show. Must say what a nice bunch of blokes the guernsey lot are, had a beer and a chat with them. Wish them all the best for the season.

Disappointed with the result. We had 3 or 4 good chances before GFC scored. Two soft goals and it was always gonna be an uphill task. Thought we competed well first half but like I've heard on a few occasions this season their fitness took over and they were good value for the 3 points. Very good side and will win the prem IMO next season. We played chesham who are Evo in the FA cup and GFC are a much better side and with players missing. Had a chat with a few of the players after. Nice bunch of lads. Got to lift ourselves now for Saturday.

Interesting to read how those that have played against GFC seem to have a different opinion of their level from those that have watched from the sidelines.

Well as stated on the how good is the ccl thread ... CCL teams normally have a weak link. GFC all comfortable on the ball quick and very fit. no weak players. I haven't played against a prem team that are as good as GFC. But I haven't played in the prem for a few seasons now so maybe im wrong. Yes they may draw or lose the odd game but they will win the league at a canter.

One thing I have been meaning to ask for a very long time - where does the name Lammas come from? What does it mean?

It's after the Recreation Ground on which the club first played. The Ashby Recreation Ground in Staines has always been known as "the Lammas". This might have been for religious reasons - "Lammas" is an archaic term for a type of harvest festival and the Ashby family had brewing and banking interests in the town, so were likely to have been active in the church too. The recreation ground is near a church, so may have been the festival site.

Some really nice postings on here tonight, thanks to all of you who have been so positive about GFC. I really did think we would be in trouble when I saw the GFC squad tonight but the lads who were available did us proud and looked sharp so the Zico Blacks, Rihoys, Dyers and Youngs will need to push themselves to get back in what looked a comfortable shape. Lammas also played their part and again I think the main difference between most sides in the league and GFC is fitness. Thank you Lammas, another good set of people who made us all very welcome

My first view of Guernsey and I was fairly impressed. I echo Johnno's thoughts that they looked like a top 4 Premier Division side. They worked hard, they were sharp and did some lovely passing which will rip apart some Premier teams next season. It wouldn't surprise me if they won the Premier Division but it also wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. If they're consistent they're in with a good shout.

Fair play to Lammas though who gave them a good game, especially early on.

Saw a few posters from this site and the other one but I don't particularly want to meet any of you, no doubt you're the same with me, so I didn't bother saying hello.

Regarding Camberley NG - we're going through a dodgy patch. We've had some injuries but that's not an excuse as, like every team, there are always players missing through injury or suspension - we're just low on confidence. Sack the board / sack the manager / sack the players or whatever it is you want me to say.

no better than chertsey last season guernsey , allen descent but i was more impressed with heaume an blond attacker cant take nothing away from allen just keeps scoring but not head an shoulders above . keeper solid with his defence an they want to win every ball but if others dont why the feck are you playing football!

lammas had chances an unlucky not to score more that said guernsey hit bar an post an had chances football wise not a big gap but there is one. imo they will win league as there fitness level is supreme players technically all good on the ball and under pressure an like brunty said no weak link though id like to see out an out wingers against there fullbacks!

donkey i saw you in que to get in then didnt see you again , redders lucky to stay on?? lol
