Staines Lammas v Guernsey

Recommended Posts

One point to note. GFC have only been training as a club since last week as I understand it. Previously there was nothing but a meet up on a Friday night to chat through stuff.

Interesting GSY if your comments are correct, how come I've been hearing that Guernsey are the fittest in the games they have been playing (ie) comments made about Saturday's game against Farleigh. Can you explain that to me please.

Do all the players go to the gym then !

To be honest I don't know re the fitness. The players may have been playing and possibly training with their local eague clubs. Also our assistant manager is renowned for getting players fit (I have personal experience of it many years ago!). There may have fitness programs outside of team training.

To be honest I'm just speculating on that but I am 99% sure of the fact that club training sessions started a week ago.

Could well be true, but I have to admit GSY, it does seem strange to hear that the Guernsey players may be getting fit by training with their local team/club. Its like the England team keeping fit with their club them going training with the England camp............it probably is the same I suppose, only difference is that the Guernsey players do not play for their local club.........or do they if returning from injury or suspension ?

You are correct Guernsey Spurs - Guernsey FC only started training together last week. I think they have now had just 2 sessions on Wednesdays. So even now they only train once a week with GFC and once with their clubs. All of the players really look after themselves and Colin Fallaize owns a local gym where I am sure many of the players work out at outside of their football committments. Fallaize himself is a machine when it comes to getting individuals ready for any sport, he is a real inspiration and is a master of coaxing an extra 20% from a totally shattered individual. He is also brilliant for morale and getting teams ready to go - the fitness of GFC is down to him, the skill and tactics are down to Vance (who was a real class player himself).

GFC will be an even better unit when they split from the local Guernsey clubs and train together on a more regular basis. I see that Craig Young played 90 minutes last weekend and scored a hatrick so he should be back for this weekend. I hear that Dyer and Black are both fully training so I expect us to start resembling the starting team even if Rihoy is probably a few weeks away

Only started training 2 weeks ago, pull the other one.Did they not train together prior to the Inter Island Cup,then gained their match fitness also in this competition. They had a head start on all other C.C.L. sides.Another thing that gets on my nerves, when reading the Guernsey Press, posters comment your only beating PUB SIDES.

You are partially right Smudge the island side would have been training for the island games which finished on 1st July. But since then nothing from what I understand. It has been commented on that the shape and pattern of play was carried forward from that tournament but as injuries have meant the inclusion of new squad members then there has been NO SQUAD TRAINING to integrate them.

Why with Guernsey's backing have facilities only just been found,a weakness in the Guernsey Plan?Interestingly the timing ties in with Guernsey Players pledging their allegiance to Guernsey F.C.On another matter Guernsey's home games according to my sources will Kick Off at 1pm once the clocks go back for us,do they go back for you?Or is this to help global warming,as floodlights will not be needed.

You may be right Smudge that it could have been a weakness in the Guernsey plan and was probably done to allow the Island clubs to use the players. The players have an awful lot of football if choosing to play for their club and GFC. Anyway it doesn't seem to have affected our results to much or our league position but as things get harder I am sure they will have to choose

It has definitely weakened your League sides, are the Guernsey F.A. right in their actions regarding players choosing between Club or Country.I do believe they have jumped the gun,by their statement, think you can have the best of both worlds,Promotion from C.C.L.1 and a strong side in the Muratti this year. But next year will be a different kettle of fish.

Re fitness, the players trained 3 times a week for 6 weeks for the Island games tournament, and then had 5 games in 6 days at the tournament itself. From there GFC friendlies started just 2 weeks later, followed by the league programme, which means that they have really had a pre-season since the middle of May and hit the ground running. All the players work very hard at their own fitness...I've heard some are doing fitness sessions in the morning before work and weight sessions in the gym after work! Which may be why there are so many injuries. GFC are now training once a week on a Wednesday night, but some are still training with their clubs to keep fitness levels topped up.

Re the comments about "pub sides" Smudge, I could not agree more with you about that being disgraceful and disrepectful, both to those sides and to GFC in their achievements to date. Unfortunately those comments come from people who are jealous of GFC and want to see it fail, so they are misplaced and mischeivous.

Regarding the k/o times, as far as I know this depends on the travelling team. If they stay the Friday night and go back on the Saturday, it's a 1pm k/o. If they come on the Saturday morning, and go back on the Sunday, it's a 3pm k/o. ence the reason why not all k/o times have been confirmed as they will not be until the team's travelling arrangements have been.

If you take the best 20 to 25 players out of a 7 team league it is obviously going to weaken it. The Guernsey FA have stated that players choosing to play for GFC over the Guernsey national side in the semi final of the Muratti versus Alderney next year will not be eligible to play in the final, should Guernsey win, versus Jersey. The CCL Div 1 will be done and dusted by then and GFC will know whether they are already promoted or have no chance so the debate should not affect anyone. You are right the GFA didnt need to do this but IMO they had to make some kind of stance after Guernsey going out of the NLS Cup so early as holders

The PUB SIDES quote was only from one guy and we all know this league is a lot better than pub level ! so take no notice of that comment.

I don't think the GFA needed to take a stance at all. We were knocked out on the first round of a cup. We had clashing fixtures and a huge injury list. What was required was planning for next year, not a ridiculous ultimatum. We must not disrespect the Alderney game, but at the same time how can you effectively ostracise players playing for a GFA affiliated club. Ridiculous.

The Guernsey FA is one f**ked up cookie. they have got a lot of backs up about this "play GFC and not Island and you won't play in the Muratti" its utter crap.

Talk about cut your nose off to spite your face, So they NEVER knew it would be like this (Fixtures pile up).......tosh absolute tosh.

They never expected GFC to catch the publics imagination as it has, as im told from friends with in the Priaulx League they get approx 20/ 30 watching a game on a good day so who wouldn't want to play in front of 1500 every other week.

To be fair Smudge so time ago you said this will happen and it has, a big divide between GFC v Club. They are more chances for players to come through the ranks now and if you have ability who's gonna come knocking on your door.....?

As soon as anyone shows (youth) they are good enough they will be signed by GFC.

Smudge in the long term is very rarely wrong.Lets talk about COMMUNITY CLUBS,we in the Croydon Area have our very own long established COMMUNITY CLUB they go by the name of Crystal Palace F.C.when smudge was a nipper, all the Schools Cup Finals were played there, from Primary School to Senior School, even Sunday Finals were played there.Friendlies against local sides were the norm, complimentary tickets to all schools were easy to get.Nowadays NO LOCAL SIDE with a CR POSTCODE is ever offered a Friendly, they enter the Surrey Cup(mickey mouse cup) I call it with a youth side, never play a game at home, and are allowed to do this by the Surrey F.A.IN WHAT MUST BE A FIXED DRAW,or are they just lucky?I will let you decide. They have by their very existance ruined the local clubs attendance figures, and in my opinion give nothing back to the local NON PALACE COMMUNITY.You would think though that having been in administration themselves recently, they would want to help local people.I hope that the dream of some people in Guernsey F.C. does not ruin what you have now, a local thriving League, for the benefit of a few,but I FEAR THE WORST.
