Town 0 Leatherhead 3

Recommended Posts

Surprised that I am the first to post but I guess many are drowning their sorrows.

I think the fairest thing I can say is that Leatherhead turned up and Billericay did not. A well deserved victory and good luck to them in the next round ( along with Southend Manor).

Craig and the boys have brought back the good times for much of the season so far, so lets hope that this was just a bad day at the office. The only thing that I found mystifying was when we went 2 down after 55 minutes. Why no immediate substitution, when we had failed to trouble their keeper during the game up until then? Then when the substitution was made, why did we take a forward player off when we were chasing the game in a knock out competition?

Anyway, still a lot to play for - starting Tuesday night

I agree. The bubble really burst. No problem losing to what seems a rejuvenated Leatherhead team and we had to lose eventually. But the performance was truly dreadful, I can't remember a shot on target and the Leatherhead keeper had very little to do despite a rather shaky looking defence in front of him.

I thought the first 10 minutes told a story, we looked far too relaxed and seemed to be set for a stroll in the sun. Perhaps getting to the top of the league for the first time in years has gone to our head a bit - this was certainly a reality check.

Our Chairman must be ruing the loss of £7500 and maybe more from what had potentially looked a winnable game. Let's move on to the next 2 cup games and hope we can bounce back.

I'm not sure whether it was complacency or a bad day at the office or a combination of both.

Its difficult to be too critical bearing in mind the season to date but it was frustrating to turn in that sort of display in the Cup with the prizes on offer to the winner.

Good luck to Leatherhead in the next round, they wanted it more and looked anything but a bottom of the table side

Hopefully its a one off and normal service will be resumed from Tuesday.

What a great disappointment after the excellent run of form the team has given us recently. Leatherhead were never going to a push-over, with new management in place, resurgent form and the "magic" of the cup all working for them; but a 3-0 home drubbing from them was completely "off the scale" in terms of our worst expectations.

If we can take anything from it then maybe a reminder, for our League campaign, that absolutely nothing should be taken for granted; an attitude that will stand us in good stead if at home to the lower clubs or away to the front runners.

What a great goal Leatherheads 2nd was!

I guess the Radley/Chatting thing can be summed up by "why change a successful formula"; now it's suffered a reversal maybe we'll see a rethink.

Nothing else to add from what's already been said a massive disapointment personally i just couldn't see us losing a game at the moment let alone getting hammered.

Would be wrong to grizzle and complain to much after enjoying the season up to now hopefully it was a one off.

Hats off to Leatherhead who fully deserve their place in the next round.

I don't think we have anything to be upset about. The performances of the past ten games was not replicated yesterday and Leatherhead came out and played better then us. We were never going to win EVERY game this season, especially the FA Cup but I would've preferred a slip up on Tuesday night than yesterday...

...still what this leaves us with is to ensure that we put things right on Tuesday for our FA Trophy game on Saturday. And also our league game against Canvey island the Saturday after...

As for the Billy Radley / Harrison Chatting discussion...I thought we did lack the creativity in midfield and we miss Junior Luke as well a Sam Berry (a whole new converstation that one...), which maybe Harrison would've given us...I thought the young lad Williams, that came on in the closing stages, made more creative passes than either Billy or Harrison...

Still, no gripes...good luck to Leatherhead...

Just gone up on the official web site:-

"The Club would like to wish Sam Berry all the best, while he is out of action as doctors investigate a possible heart condition.

Get well soon Sam!"

Lets hope he gets some good news when they've completed their investigations.

Well we had to lose eventually, it was just a shame it was in a game that was worth a few quid.

Between them Luke and Berry must be responsible for 75 pc of our assists this season so to be without them both was a big blow to us (All the best to Sam, I hope he gets his issues sorted out quickly and properly). Personally, I've always found the selection of Radley (decent youngster though he is) ahead of H a bit strange, but yesterday given we were missing Luke and Berry then imo it was a big mistake not to start with H who was in decent form and would have given us the set piece delivery and creativity that we were predictably devoid of.

We had our chances though, Benson at 1-0 I think was a key moment in the game - had we drawn level there it could have been a different story. I'm not sure whether their second goal was just an unstoppable effort or whether Nick was in the wrong place - it reminded me of a goal we conceded at Wealdstone last year.

Leatherhead deserved their win, but I reckon even they will agree the ref was an ar*e. I think he wanted to get on the X factor or something. Thought their number six (Francis?) was the best player on the park yesterday.

With Boot out for the season, it will be interesting to see if we can bring a striker in, especially as the front two could do with a bit of competition now the goals have dried up a bit.

At least we stuck at it until the end. Hopefully we'll have a look at a few players on Tuesday and get the balance right for another tricky cup tie on Saturday. Bouncebackability anyone?

Come on you Blues!!

A pretty dismal performance but I agree with jl about Benson's chance and leaving out Harrison but it's been a great run of wins so lets hope the lads can bounce back with another good run. TBH I thought that young Radley was our best player yesterday and was surprised to see him taken off.

Nice to see onthesidelines has decided to post again now we have lost. Why didn't you bring up the Radley/Chatting choice in the previous two games ?

What a shame to see such a good run coming to a dismal end. But it was bound to happen sooner or later. Looking on the Brightside we are 2nd in the league with games in hand, What a great position to be in.

I'm surprised that this was posted as soon as we loose a game

Does anyone have any views on Billy Radley being considered more effective than Harrison Chatting? If so I would like to hear them.

That will do the young lad the world of good. Just what he needs after his first FA Cup game.

Obviously The manager has his tactics but i agree with most others that H should have had the start in this big game for us.

I hope the extra people that came to see that game will not judge it too harshly and come back again to support the Blues.

Well said BB and TC. Onthesidelines only finds time to offer negative post after a defeat. He hasn't written a positive post in what so far has been a great start to the season. It might have been an idea to have mentioned how well the team are doing before singling out a young U/18 player after a defeat in probably his first FA Cup match. What a despicable thing to do. Are you really a Ricay fan?

In reply to your question Radley has played in two games in which we took six points and didn't concede a goal. He played well in both games and as I said earlier I thought he was our best player on Saturday.

My view on this season, on the games I have seen, is that we have played well as a team, we attacked and defended as a team, particularly at Wingate and Finchley. Some players have had an off day but with the team spirit we have, it has carried us through although we have lacked a creative influence in the centre of midfield. On Saturday we didn’t play well as a team. Effort was there but nothing seemed to go right. So I find it difficult to understand why the debate as a result of the match is centered on the whether Harrision should have been selected instead of Billy Radley. (I like New Lodger thought Billy was one of our better players on the day). My feeling is that Billy is a young player starting out at this level and if he reads this forum he will be thinking that’s it’s his fault that the team didn’t play well and that is not the case. There are other more experienced individuals that need to look at themselves after the game. The question should have been why was Harrison not selected for the game. Let’s not get into singling out individuals after a poor TEAM performance.
