Great Wakering Rovers vs Enfield Town

Too early for Town supporters, who travelled to GWR, to comment on the match and result, but it will be interesting to hear what people have to say.

We all know there are no easy games in this league, but allowing for the recent form and results of both clubs, think this was a match we might have been expected to win. The Twitter updates on the official website describe the game as 'scrappy after our goal' and concluded that it was a 'disjointed performance'.

Was this a good away point for Town, or should we have picked up all three?

Undoubtedly a poor display.

We had the chances to put the game beyond doubt by the time we scored our goal. GWR defended in numbers and never stopped running. Jey had to come forward to support the attack and that left us exposed down that flank.

It seemed to me that there was some sickness in the squad. Leon was slow for most of the game and Adam was sweating profusely after a quarter of an hour. It was sunny but not that hot.

GWR were not the best team we have faced this year and you can see why they have been losing by loads. However, to only come away with a point showed that we were not that much better. They had a couple of chances and scored once. We should have scored more and come away with three points.

Pie, chips and mushy peas in Southend were great!

We have a good squad of players, are well placed in the league, and there is a long way to go until the end of the season. So, there is little cause for concern at this early stage, unless we keep dropping points against teams we realistically should be beating, and it comes back to haunt us again at the end of the season.

Last season we missed the play-offs by one point which was a big disappointment for the players and everyone else. We are on a good run at the moment, unbeaten in our last five matches, and the expectation is high. Would be nice to think we can start putting away more of those goal-scoring chances, which so often go begging, eliminate costly defensive errors, and do everything necessary to assert ourselves and build on our lead once we get our noses in front.

Match highlights below -

negative points - we didn't win...it wasn't vintage

positive points - we didn't lose, it was a nice day out in the Essex Autum Sunshine!! and we're still 4th in the table.

Mark Kirby's effort that came off the bar was very unlucky not to go but top marks to the Rover's defender for blocking it!!

I know GWR are struggling for form but glancing at their home games so far it's not all that bad... Only Redbridge have left Burroughs Park with all three points in their six league games so far.

A disjointed, lackluster, poor performance with the same excuses that we had plenty of the ball and "should" have scored etc etc etc.

In my opinion there is not enough fire power and the constant 4.3.3. formation with no variation does not help as we have a lone striker with 2 or 3 defenders all over him.

Thought the Wakering 5 was very good, although we continued to play to his strengths - ie high balls - and our weaknees.

So many games when these comments get repeated and we have no "plan B" to change the shape of the team and play.

We all have opinions, but most will surely agree that it is ........ All Very Frustrating.

How about a 4.4.2 so the 2 forwards can work off each other and the 2 wide midfield can push forward ?????

Do you mean the GW 5 who messed up for the goal and did the same thing again later in the half when Liam had another shot saved?! :s

I thought we started excellently and the first 15 minutes we were opening them up time and again with our front 3 playing well with each other. After that your right Old Towner, it seemed to become disjointed, not sure it was down to the formation though.

I was not there, but from The Cold Ends highlights we seemed very very wasteful with the chances created and the cross's we were putting in. Again it looks like we should have won which is better than should have lost.

5 games unbeaten and 2 cup matches ahead of us so as to rotate the squad and allow some key players to recover from knocks.

I noticed Grays lost 1-3 to Tilbury and could only draw 0-0 with Cheshunt and they are league leaders.

EU.

and ...........Not sure what point you are making.

No good looking at others or we could be hear all day.

We need to look at ourselves and seek some answers to a repeating problem.

Not scoring from chances and fading out the game.

Wakering were not good and had let in 13 goals in their last 2 games v Sudbury 6 and Wabbey 7.

Point is (and sorry I'm stating the bleeding obvious) no game is easy. We look at our oppo and we think 'they are Sh1te', we assess ourselves and we rate us poor too. What I'm pointing out is this is Ryman League Division 1 North, what we are watching is step 4 footy which is a decent level but you get what we are seeing.

The fact that teams are being beaten by 6's and 7's as well as Needhams 8, show you the inconsistent nature of the teams involved and how if one manager were to leave the team would also follow.

We are currently fifth and you know what, thats about right from what I have seen to date.

by stating Gray's recent results I'm saying that even the team who have hit the ground running this season are now dropping points, therefore a couple of very good additions would see us go to the summit in a short period of time, it's whether we can get the right players in and how much would it cost??

Although the footy is not impressing you OT (Although I don't think it's that awful) who can we say have outplayed us this season?? No one I've watched to date. It's a long season and we are in the mix

EU,

some good points.

I do not think any teams have outplayed us, far from it actually, we have outplayed many teams up to the penalty area, then we have outdone ourselves.

Others are scoring 5,6,7,8 etc we are not, but you only get 3 points for a win regardless. However, if you can score in high numbers your chances of a win are greatly improved.

In my opinion, we run out of ideas on the edge of the box and take 6, 7, 8 passes to a move which then falls apart. when others take 3 or 4 and are in our box.
