Should we be helping ourselves more or getting more help???

Today i bought the Romford Recorder as i do on the majority of Fridays, fully expecting to read that if we won tomorrow we would be top of the league.

But alas, not one mention of the fact, don't get me wrong, there is a good write up about our match at East Thurrock and a good piece about tommorrows game but we are in a results business where naturally the higher up the league we go the higher the gate.Surely such a thing should of been mentioned to at least see if the gate could possibly improve on previous gates this season.Say we got 350 through the gate tomorrow and we won handsomely, those people would come back and maybe with others. On the back page is Romfords thrashing at Tilbury and i know i am biased but surely the upward march of Haverings best supported club is more worthy of back page news?????

It is the Romford Recorder though, not a Havering newspaper. When it was the Romford, Hornchurch and Upminster Recorder, we did get a much bigger mention on the back page and usually a nice photo of someone scoring for us, and Romford got a small inside bit. I am surprised we even get a big write up inside the paper!

We are often on the back page.I don't know who Romford have tomorrow, they are not in the Fa cup so I guess it's a league game but I would of thought that seeing as AFC Hornchurch have a big league game that maybe both could of made the back page or at least a mention on it with a fuller story inside. Both clubs obviously need the paper as it's the main news provider in the area, which is why I started this thread, should we help ourselves more or be getting more help??

Having just skimmed through the Romford Recorder, it does still look like a Havering paper, but it doesn't give that impression by dropping 2 other main towns from it's title. Judging by the back page, it seems Romford FC have taken over.

To be fair,  the Romford Recorder dedicates the back page to the team that its football supporting readership are most interested in. Romford still have a huge following in the borough but unfortunately for geographical reasons many potential supporters are unable to attend matches as often as they would like.

Ideally, both teams seem to play home matches on the same day far to often, and that deprives some of us that may wish to see the other Havering team of the opportunity.

Alan,Romford do not have a huge following. You used to,the fact is that without being horrible, only a few of you actually care.

if you moved back to the borough and played at ryman level in Romford, you may attract 2-300 average home gate but until then you are simply the 2nd best supported football side in the borough,if they really cared, you would get 4-500 turning up for big cup games, how many did you get against Staines last year at home?? And whatever it was take 50 off for away fans and another 50-100 off for fans of other clubs who wanted to watch a Sunday game, then you will see the true level of interest

Its all theory based on gut instinct who has the best potential support in Havering. My own instinct is that if all things were equal and both clubs shared the same stadium then we would have slightly higher gates, but I would quite rightly expect you to disagree.
