Updates v Cray

Useless stat of the day:

We have now won four out of five evening games this season.

Disappointing turnout tonite but to be expected IMO due to it being the KSL cup. However we were entertained by the absolute barrage the boys provided at the Crays goal, but as it happened Saturday the same happened tonite we were sucker punched on the break.

We had at least 70% posession and bossed them all night but always seemed to try and take that "extra" touch and so we continued until Tom scored an acute but simple goal which bizarrely calmed us down when on the ball. I really think this team with a couple of additions will be up there but Im thinking they dont believe themselves.

Bodkin was a class above as usual and was actually cutting thru the central midfield and attacking left and right sides (if only we had another two or three just like him).

Overall we definately deserved to win but need to take our chances more and simplify our play somewhat.

One worrying aspect was our GK (Simon Overland) prior to their pen. he came for a ball which was 30 yards + and left himself in no-mans land which annoyed a good majority of his defence - other than that made a few smart saves and looks strong and fit

Happy Days :)

Really pleased with that result.

Surprisingly strong team-credit to CK for playing a strong side (hope he does the same v Kingstonian next tuesday )

Thought Ryan Johnson would have played-can you be cup tied in the KSC ?

Hope Wilson is not badly injured-we need him

Not that surprising - the gap between the First Team squad & the Reserves in a lot bigger than in recent seasons (what with the exodus of most of last seasons squad to another part of the Island), it seems a lot of the current Reserves are playing at a level they're still getting used to - so not much chance of a call up to Ryman League level yet.

I was a bit surpised that the 4 outfield players on the bench didn't start with 4 first team regulars weren't on the bench to come on if needed.

Yes-agree with PW about the gap-but thought similar to wellsi-the likes of coleman, grant etc not starting.

That given-CK got it right as we won;and to me-very important.

Nice to have a fixture re: ramsgate in next round-and possibly a game against a league clubs (reserves ).

all helps and sustains extra interest that bit longer which are what cups are for.

Not sure I agree with interest in this cup though, 96 on a balmy tuesday night has got to be a record. Interest in all of these cups is going to wain IMO because of the huge amount of home games that are all coming at once, not everyone can afford to go to ALL - we are living in a recession after all :(

Thought we played well in patches and this time a good second half display, deserved the win, Beales looked very solid at the back, and disagree about the keeper, he also looked assured and confident under the high ball, which is what we have been lacking IMO, Bodkin excellent and Curtis also had a good game, shame about the attendance but Ramsgate next surely we will get 500+ for that? even if it is only the KSC.

However the few of us who were there, were treated to a good game. I thought it was all Margate for most of the game, and although my head dipped when we went one down, what a great performance to keep going and quite deservingly take the win.

Well done lads a great show, good effort by numerous players.

Now lets do the same to Bromley...

You are never going to get good crowds for the KSC-but 96 is a bit disappointing (i thought it would be circa 130 -but trhswts what losing on the prior saturday does to you.

Should it be seen as an investment though ?

Credit CK for putting out a strong side-and securing the win to get a derby v Ramsgate.

That game should be about 300 in to watch.

If (and it willl be tough )Margate can beat ramsgate-that may secure a game v Charlton (reserves ) but should get about 350/400 to watch-so you build up interest and momentum.

Same applies to the Boon cup-i suspect it will be about 80 there on tuesday-but if Margate can progress-the Boon cup will become a bit more interesting and exciting comes the later rounds playeds inJan and feb.

the Boon cup is a cup Margate can win-and whilst no-one currently cares-early next year-when there is nothing else to play for-it gets interesting-and i think we saw that with ramsgate a couple of seasons ago when they got to the final-and if most of us are honest-we were pretty jealous that they did.
