A WORD OF WARNING TO THOSE COMING BY CAR !!

For those of you who know Mill Lane and the Meadowbank ground at the bottom.

The ex Malthouse pub that stands immediately next to our ground is being re-developed for use by Surrey County Council, and the complete area is fenced off right up to the road edge.

Guernsey are bringing a team-bus, which will need space both to park and manouvre inside Meadowbank, so parking for spectators will HAVE to be in the 'pay and display' car-park approx 100 yards from the ground.

I've just spoken to a Bookham Committee Official.

He states that the car park on Saturday for the 1:00 pm kick-off against Guernsey wil be for ....

PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS ONLY + THE GUERNSEY TEAM COACH.

ALL spectators must find their own parking arrangements.

I thank you !

(ROSS: I have tried to ring you, but there seems to be a problem on mobile link to the CI's at the moment !)

i honestly thought that bookham were the best footballing side weve played so far an really cant understand there league position, in an around the box at times we didnt get near them an chin? very good a constant menace, an with the experianced green who i had good banter with up top i said this to him after the game!!

also spoke with a couple of the other players an they said jus not getting the rub of the green , that sounds disturbing i thought green had a couple of kids lol

although this is a bookham game Guernsey fc are coming to Dorking town.

decent village Bookham with a couple of good old boozers ( and some decent country pubs)

however Dorking has some very good ancient pubs, , with more recent tudor frontage.

a one oclock kick off means not too much time for a pre match pie and a pint, but West Street is a short walk away and as well as the antique shops that sell BJR memorabilia, also has the King's Arms a pub the Pilgrim Fathers wanted banned as a den of inequity. Stone floors low ceilings a central fire place and decent restaurant make up for the miserable humourless berks who have served behind the pumps over the last forty years.

West street also boasts "the old house at home" which has variously been a hangout for porn stars, W Youngs favourite country pub, the dirtiest flea pit in town, a Chelsea supporters club, a pseudo night club ( open til 2 and had lights) , where Dorking fcs brightest young players got smashed on a Friday (!) , and home to many a drinking competition.

The Star is at the end of west street but one for the culture buffs of Guernsey. This gay friendly arts pub welcomes fresh meat to its small but beautifully formed bar area and suntrap, I particularly remember the christmas decoration of Santa being crucified upside down, and being informed those star motifs arent devil worship but pagan love symbolism. Landlord is camper than pontins, a thoroughly decent guy and its a well kept pub.

The middle of town has the old London Brighton coach house and now classy hotel The White Horse at the top of Mill Lane , entrance to the world famous home of the chicks.

It has a bar and a coffee/biscuits type area which should be welcoming, get the coach to stop there, jump in to the White Horse while they try to negotiate Mill Lane and Meadowbanks car park.

Stroll down St Martins churchyard, down Church street, a narrow terraced road with artisan workshops, and visit the star, and the Kings arms before glancing at the antique shops windows and no doubt familiar price tags on your way back to Meadowbank to watch Dorkings groundsharing village neighbours take on a whole island in a traditional non league ground with beautiful views and a pitch that makes a corrugated roof look like a billiard table and is probaby just as hard.

if we are blessed with a sunny day the patio and benches outside the bar are a great place to relive the game and look out over boxhill, an olympic venue as is Dorking for the cycling. Not sure why road cycling is an olympic sport , may as well make commuting and motorway driving a gold medal chance. We can all ride a bike, wearing multi coloured lycra and changing your blood regularly is hardly training or a proof of excellence.

If its raining the clubhouse is what you make it, its got booze and space so its up to those there to make an atmosphere, other wise you may all wish to head up to the Spotted Dog (BJRs retirement home for the bewildered), the Bulls Head, a one time proper pub now with 87 and a half flatscreens to watch sport, mtv , or possibly eastenders if its doubling up as a creche that day.

Food wise, youve hit selection problems. Dorking has more restaurants, cafes takeaways and pub/restaraunts than you can sit down at in a year. I know, Ive tried.

and sorry we also have a cafe rouge.

hope to see you guys there, or somewhere.

You should start work for the Dorking Tourist Board, Jeff !!

I hadn't realised The Star was a Poofs Paradise, but then again, it's the only pub in Dorking I haven't been into, and after reading your survey, it's probably a good thing I haven't. I may have many vices, but shirt-lifting ain't one of 'em !

"Poof" and "shirt-lifting" are derogatory words used to denigrate people with an unusual sexual orientation. I thought this forum was about football not airing prejudices that have got nothing to do with the game.
