Well Done Spelthorne Sports !

Recommended Posts

You beat me to it GD!

It had to happen eventually. Congratulations to Spelthorne. I didn't see the game but I'm sure it was deserved and I hope the Lions behaved with dignity in defeat.

This will be a test of character now to see how Guernsey can respond to defeat

I always said I would be the first to congratulate the first team that beats us.

We are still on schedule for promotion and I still believe we will achieve that.

Remember we have played 8 away and only 4 at home.

I'm glad I didn't travel for this one lol. I'm going over next week for the Bookham game, its time to bounce back !

C'mon the Green Lions !

Yes well done to Spelthorne, they deserve credit for coming out and doing what they needed to do to get the victory. It wasn't pretty and a draw would probably have been a fair result, but Spelthorne took their chances (2 good headers) and defended well. You could see how much it meant to them by the reactions at the final whistle!

Guernsey were well below strength - I reckon only 4 players who started today would make the full strength team (Heaume, Black, Allen and Dodd), and Black went off injured very early on. There was none of the free flowing attacking football that we have been used to seeing and goal scoring chances were few and far between. Ross Allen nearly salvaged a point late on with a curled effort but the Spelthorne keeper pulled off a great save. One tactic Spelthorne definitely got right was to man-mark Allen - their captain stuck to him like glue, although the service wasn't great so Allen didn't get many opportunities (or support when he did get the ball).

I'm sure Guernsey will be looking forward to return match at Footes lane where they will hopefully get their revenge in style!

Arp,

Don't forget Guernsey have the pick of the Island, how are they below strengh, they have more players at their command than any other team in this league.

Guernsey got beat and to be honest it won't be the last.

Guernsey were below strength because they didn't have their first choice players available  is that so difficult to understand? Just like many other teams across the league (and country) on various weekends, and invariably they probably end up losing as a result too! As you say it won't be the last time it happens this season either, however I still can't see Guernsey losing when they have the majority of their first choice team playing.

I'm not sure about Guernsey having more players at their disposal than other teams?

I assume that was aimed at me? I stated that Spelthorne deserved their victory and pointed out that they got their tactics right - something that none of the other 4 teams i've seen play have managed. I wasn't taking anything away from Spelthorne, just stating a fact that Guernsey were missing players. I see you support spurs. What would you say if your team lost as a result of being missing Defoe, Adabayor, Bale, Modric, Sandro, King, Dawson, and others (showing my shocking knowledge of Spurs first XI there.... )

Regarding the strength in depth comments - yes of course Guernsey have lots of players to select from. It doesn't mean they are all CCL standard though! Just like any CCL team could actually draw players from any teams in their area playing at lower standards (of which i'm sure there are lots more than there are in Guernsey)
