v Gosport Borough Trophy game

Now I've calmed down a little...

Part of my frustration had to do with the fact that the coach niot only arrived at Wexham Park nearly 20 minutes late, but when we did arrive in Gosport we promptly got lost, meaning I missed the first 20 mintues of the game.

But that isn't to say that I'm any less dissappointed with today's performance. Yes, I would rather these performances happen in the Trophy and not the league, yes we were never going to play well every game and yes no team has a Divine Right to beat anybody, but that's no excuse. I'm more frustrated about the same old things causing our downfall. Today wasn't even close - yet again we were well beaten by an ordianry side who didn't do an awful lot (except fall over at the drop of a hat and get free-kicks), but who were obviously much more motivated for it.

I'm not entirely sure if the players and management were taking the FA Trophy seriously today. It would explain alot if they weren't (like why we couldn't hit a barn door, close down opposition play or even pass successfully to teammates) but if we were (which I sincerly hope was indeed the case!) then we need to sort it out ASAP. Maybe we were trying to lure Hanworth Villa into a false sense of security, I don't know :)

Whatever the reasons behind today's defeat, the team seriously let down all the fans who came down to support them today.

Chris, all I'm saying is, if people spend their money following a team then they have every right to voice negative or positive comments, it's their choice!!!

I agree with Nathan 110%, and if his or anyone's views are negative then that is their choice... It's just same old same old!!!

What's same old same old is you moaning about the players and management every time we lose. Change the record.

Same old same old as in:1. Consistently putting ariel balls for two short forwards2. Lack of leadership when things aren't going well3. Lack of a Plan B when things aren't going well4. Players bickering among themselves after conceeding a goal5. Dominating possession, yet it was the opposition who always looked more likely to score6. Inability to even make the goalkeeper work.

I'd say going unbeaten for 5 games prior to today and losing only 2 of the opening 13 games was pretty consistent performance wise.

Yes, today wasn't amazing but I'd rather we went out and lost in the Trophy rather than in the league - the league is the priority.

It's all to easy for people to criticise when things go wrong on this forum, yet when things go well you hear nothing.

Ian, you are not comparing like with like as we actually played damn well in both those games.

My point is that when we aren't playing well (like today), our game plan seems to be "Go out, do this, and if it doesn't work, then keep trying until it does". But of course it rarely works, does it?

Anyway, I don't want to get into a huge arguement, let's just put this one behind us and focus on next week.

I think Ian's post was aimed at me Nathan and quite frankly, I can say what I like, this isn't a dictatorship where when things go wrong we still all have to say how wonderful everything is!!!

I'm not moaning, I'm voicing an opinion!!! It seems this forum has what I can only call a bullying tactic where people are ganged up on when they don't conform to the same view as the people with rose tinted glasses...

I think you will find that I have not been negative since my pre-season rant but I will be negative when I see there is something to be negative about!!!

Today I have backed someone up on here and then the forum mafia jump in!!!

Good luck to ya...

Well we must have done something right in our league games to be in third place. We've only lost 2 and conceded less than a goal a game. Long may we continue doing so badly!

I can't help but feel that you're missing the point here Ian.

Today was dreadful, and you appear not to want anybody "moaning" about it. This has nothing to do with where we are in the league.

Hi,

I recall the great teams of the early 70s, but unfortunately they still lost badly with crappy performances. And, yes we were all unhappy about it. It wasn't great to give up paid work to travel down to Erith or Tilbury and lose. We did expect to win those too! What does make a difference though is to get behind the team and give them a lift. That can change matches. I was sad to see how poor we were at Greenford and similarly today. Maybe losing today could actually be helpful in the long run as we cannot afford good long runs in both Cup & Trophy. I desperately want to see a different Slough next week and when we play our next league match. Despite the bad 'uns, I want us to win!! So come on everyone, let's get behind the team next week and give nit some welly!

UP THE REBELS!

It's got everything to do with where we are in the league. People can moan if they want but lets retain a sense of perspective and realism here. The FA Trophy is unimportant in the grand scheme of things this season. It seems that some people expect and demand us to be brilliant every game. Get real, it ain't gonna happen. If we were going to have a bad day the office I'm bloody glad it was in a competition that doesn't really matter. I don't expect this game to have any bearing on our league or FA Cup form.

Support the team .... That's what its all about !

even through the tough times ... That's what Slough Supporters are all about ... yes we have our moans

and opions ... but being a Slough Supporter is brilliant and meeting friends .. some times the football gets in the way !

but more times than not we have a lot to be proud of and a good team to support ..be grateful...

True, but that doesn't excuse the manner of the defeat, or the repeated mistakes that let it happen. It also doesn't negate any of the other critiscisms that myself and Cookham Rebel have mentioned.

It seems that some people expect and demand us to be brilliant every game. Get real, it ain't gonna happen. If we were going to have a bad day the office I'm bloody glad it was in a competition that doesn't really matter. I don't expect this game to have any bearing on our league or FA Cup form.

I don't believe that anybody has ever said that, and anybody who thinks that is deluded.

It does however appear that we seem to be reserving our good performances for the FA Cup. This is puzzling to say the least, as most people on this forum seem to be of the opinion that the league is much more important. We have shown what we can do against Banbury and Borehamwood, yet we have failed to recreate these performances in any of our league games this season, even the ones which we won.

Now, I know that I can't really critiscise us winning games on this basis, so I will reserve my "moaning" until it starts to cost us. For the record, I am delighted that we are third in the table, as it represents a clear improvement (so far) on 2 fifth place finishes. Nonetheless, when our weaknesses are shown up (like today, Burnham and Rugby), it really does look like we have no answer for it.

Now, can we please take my advice from earlier and put this down as a bad performance, and move on?

Voicing an opinion when things don't go well is not a problem. But what I'd like to see is the same level of praise when we win a game. Why is it that things are so quiet after a good performance and win? Do we expect the team to win every week? And please, do me a favour - stop getting so defensive by moaning that the so-called "forum mafia" are after you.

Matt all I can say is I had a right laugh at your post as it seems people on here are very forgetful or blinkered...

Go back through the threads about all our games so far this season and you will find that myself and Nathan have been more than positive when we have won and even when we have drawn or lost!!!

Today's level of performance is the criticism, if we had pummelled them and lost 3-0 then I think myself and Nathan would not be saying all this!!!

Anyway, it's done, we move on and here's to 3 points against Rugby next week!!!
