Tilbury won convincingly in this youth cup match, though the result might have been far different had not Hornchurch been denied what to many appeared to be a certain penalty shortly after half time with when the visitors were one goal ahead. And to rub it in, two very poor back passes allowed Tilbury to pile up the goals as Hornchurch moved forward in an effort to reduce the gap.

 

James Goldspink did well to hold on to a flick on from Tom Wraight’s wind assisted long throw, and it was Wraight to proved to be the main threat when he followed up shortly afterwards with a good run and hard shot which skimmed the bar. Goldspink was called into action again to make an excellent save from a long range shot, whilst at the other end Curtly Yates put in a good shot that brought an equally good save from Dean Driscoll.

 

First half play was fairly even but Tilbury went ahead shortly before half time when TOM WRAIGHT finished off a good move with a somewhat scuffed shot, which none the less entered the net through a packed defence.

 

Tilbury threatened immediately after the interval when a Joe Obersteller corner almost sailed in, only for Goldspink to make a good save to keep the ball out. Hornchurch then had their best spell which started when a free kick by Billy Pearce was held on the line by Driscoll. But then what appeared to be a clear cut penalty was rejected when Cameron St Prix-Mitchell was brought down well inside the area, and to add insult to injury Cameron was booked for protesting. Pearce went close again, and Tilbury came back strongly when Ben Smith powered through from the right and hit a powerful shot just wide of the near post. A curling free kick from Billy Pearce forced an excellent save from Driscoll, whilst another shot went out via a post. Tilbury then increased their lead with a good move which culminated with a hard struck shot by JOE OBERSTELLER, and just two minutes later it was as good as all over when a poorly directed pass back allowed SEBASTIAN OSEI-OBENGO to run the ball into the net. And it was another poor back pass which then allowed BEN SMITH to run the ball home. A minute later yet another poor pass back almost ended in a fifth goal but Goldspink saved well. Michael Animasaun hit a post with a good first time shot, and although Hornchurch managed to get themselves back into the match as an attacking force, Tilbury deservedly went into the next round.

Cracking report made all the more remarkable as the author reports that it was played in two days time.

Lots of effort but beaten by the better side. Could have different if the pen was given.

I think the lads will be disappointed,didn't look the same side as beat Stansted convincingly

There is some real talent in the team but all too often they tried to beat one too many players,something that needs to be weeded our of them to win such games
