Saturday 8th October (Fixtures & Results)

I’m not envious in the slightest, why would I be, it’s interesting though that you say a friend of yours puts these prestigious games your way, it’s not what you know is it!

<okay - can we cut out the accusations >

What has the KOPA League got to do with games at Arsenal?

This article might make things a bit clearer:

Division One

2-2 Cockfosters v Crawley Green

60

A report on this one from another's Forum:

Spartan South Midland League – Division 1

Cockfosters 2 Crawley Green 2

Attendance: 60

Admission: £4

Wingate & Finchley weren’t playing because of Yom Kippur, which enabled a few of the regulars to take in some local football down the road. This was my first visit to Chalk Lane and although the ground is very basic (though presumably still sufficient for Step 5 standards) it is a very picturesque setting in a quiet suburban backwater.

Cockfosters went into this game having lost once all season and let in a paltry six goals. Crawley green were second bottom with just one victory and thirty five goals conceded. As such, this could be somewhat aptly described as a “coupon wrecker”. On the pitch there was little between the two teams, and for large parts of the match it was a dull scrappy affair. So much so, that I spent the majority of the second half talking to my mate Matt about how we would build a side up called Hackney United and enter them in the Middlesex County League if we ever won the Euro Millions. The stadium would be similar to FC United’s proposed ground and have a host of educational and community facilities.

The daydream was significantly more stimulating than the game, which finished 2-2 after Cockfosters equalised in second half injury time. I suspect the pitch didn’t help matters, as I saw Cockfosters play in a pre season friendly at the Hive on a 3G service, and they looked a decent passing side.

Well worth a visit again, especially if Fosters are challenging for honours at the end of the season, or playing a team that is doing so (e.g. London Colney)
