Margate v Thamesmead updates

SteveB

Recommended Posts

There will be updates today via Twitter (the live twitter feed is at the bottom of the left column on the official site) and the Match Details Page.

The match details page will automatically update with score, scorers, subs and attendance, so there is no need to refresh it. I will try to update the scores of today's 2 Ryman Premier fixtures but the scores of the other FA Cup games will not be updated until this evening.

As soon as the line-up is available on the Match Details page, I will post back in this thread.

An improvement on last Saturday (albeit not a large one), we had a few chances when the ball just bounced across an empty goalmouth and there was a shot against the post. If Lady Luck had been smiling we could have won quite comfortably in the second half - but our glass was half empty.

Feel the confidence that was evident during psf's and early matches at home seems to have evaporated. Not helped by the tension in the home crowd projecting to the players. Unfortunately this is a vicious circle and if performances and results don't come crowds dwindle, those that do attend become more negative and players are affected. CK facing his first big challenge to turn this around. Saturday was opportunity to turn it around but it just would not come. Thamesmead were not up to hornchurch level and seemed to set themselves up to defend. Will they come out more tuesday and have a go or will they sit back and play same game. If they do sit back (cannot believe they will be as negative)we will have 120 mins to make an opening count.Come on guys lets produce that away form from met police again.

I thought that was ok yesterday.

After a run of defeats-first priority is to stem the tide-and a draw achieves that.Gives you something to build on tuesday.

I thought Corneilles appearance in midfield was interesting-i thought he did pretty good-a bit if bite-and played the simple short ball.

Been crying out for that-maybe he is the cheaper solution.Only problem is that you can have 3 holding midfield players in robinson, avery and corneille..

i still think the only way forward at the moment is play 5 in midfiled and just one striker.

That does not mean you score less, just because you have one less striker-you have a better chance of controlling the game from midfield-and thus you create more chances .

Gives us a chance atleast on tuesday-only thing is-i reckon we played to just about as good as we can on saturday (frankly-we are'nt very good beyond the back 4 ) ,but thamesmead can probably play a lot better.

The good thing is that the lewes game is postponed, because the current team would not get anything out of the Lewes game-so the longer we have to inprove-the better. At least we will have a chance v Thamesmead ,and then get a later chance v Lewes by which time we may have a better team..

Had to endure the usual nonsense from the old cronies shouting 'keep it on the deck'.

Would love them to show how its done.

Poor Curtis-had 3 blokes in front of him so he naturally hits it over their heads-then the idiots shout 'keep it on the deck'-really great idea that one so you then pass it directly to the opposition.

When will these guys realise that there are 10 guys in different coloured shirts preventing you from playing the 'perfect game'

I think Thamesmead might regret not showing a touch more ambition than they did yesterday - they might have got lucky. The number of chances we created wasn't really adequate for the amount of possession we had. Too many easy high balls for their centre backs to deal with. Still, at least Tuesday is an away game!

I bet Thamesmead play like the away team on Tuesday so it could be a cagey affair. If we get the first goal, they'll have to come out and we'll score more. Bit of a cliche perhaps, but first goal is critical.

Cannot agree with this statement as playing the ball on the floor is and should be the way to play through the hoof it teams and to say that there is 10 guys trying to stop you is not IMO a good excuse. Can I play this game better than the guys being paid out on the pitch .... HELL NO.... (paid being the key word). We are not ever going to be playing like Barcelona/Man Utd etc etc but cmon every time this team "plays" football there are 3 or 4 hundred fans behind the hoardings that smile and say to themselves

"that was worth the entrance fee" and come back to the next home game (with friends/family) - unfortunately we all know if the team keep giving lack-lustre performances at home then fickle fans will walk and not come back. Do I think I know better than the management ... I say again "HELL NO" but am I getting worried that we will lose fans if results dont improve .... sadly yes.

Spoke to one of our fans who sat amongst your fans last Tuesday,he remarked on the constant shouting of "keep it on the deck" as nauseating. He said that at times he just wanted to move, plus they were moaning when a clearance was made.Think people forget that this is the ryman league not championship

Well if it puts one of our fans of watching his team, what is it doing to your support.

Seriously,I have been to watch Margate v Hornchurch matches for the last few years and this time the atmosphere at the club was dead, this at a time when you should all be on a high and getting behind the club waiting for your ground to be developed.Gone are any groups of youngsters, even 20-30 somethings are thin on the ground,it was almost like many have given up,not pumped with excitement about the future.

The die-hards havent given up Rob but its difficult to get enthused about a team that over the last few years have not made it hard for other teams to come and nick three points off us. What I mean to say is this - The last few (three) seasons we have flirted with relegation and in some views should have gone down, but the faithful every year turn up come rain or shine and try to get excited (probs not the right word but heyho) about the coming season. No-one expects to be winning every single game but for the last few games we (team) look tired, uninterested and really not worth the £10 admission. Will I still turn up and watch....

YEP..... will I moan if we lose.... Probably... will I see many new supporters that you speak of (20- 30 yr olds) .... probably not and thats something you cant blame the supporters for. End of the day people have got to be entertained and feel that their monies are well spent cos in these dire economic times £10 can guarantee you entertainment i.e. DVD, SKY Sports etc etc.

Just shows how little i know when robinson, cormeille and avery all start tonight.

better that way though ,than too attacking-and i always maintain that if you control midfield-the chances will come.

Intereste to read how the midfield lined up-did we have 3 holding midfield players-seemed to have worked-or was the earlier introduction of W ayneWIlson the catalyst to creating a few more chances

No Corneille played an attacking midfield role, though did do his back tracking well too to cover at times, Curtis was rampant down the left wing.
