South Kilburn v Guernsey

Recommended Posts

We got away with one here !

South Kilburn missed a couple of great chances in the first half and should have been at least 2-0 up at the break.

I would say South Kilburn were physical but fair.

After the restart we upped the tempo of the game and started to play better. It was about the 67th minute when our first goal went in and 2 and 3 followed soon after.

I spoke to a couple of the South Kilburn players in the bar and I told them they were about the best we have played against first half and they were a fit side.

We did have quite a few players out through injury and some couldn't travel. But well done South Kilburn you made it tough for us !

Well done lads for grinding out the win !

I had a pre match and after match drink with Lionherts ( good to meet you mate :) )

Anyone who saw the game could only agree with Guernsey coach Tony Vance's comment:

"This weekend proved that we don't have a divine right to win a football match, you've got to go and grind out a result"

SK's level of fitness (with a notable exeption) seemed higher than other teams in the division. They were, however, very poor thespians - some of the "dives" were laughably clumsy and some tackling (on both sides) a bit reckless. They have the skill, they have the fitness, they don't need to risk players being carded for not playing proper football.

As usual, the referee came in for some stick. He did, like all refs, make a few mistakes but people tend to remember only the decisions they disagree with and forget all the good ones. I thought he was pretty good.

There's a lot of coverage on the game on another's Forum, this is one of the picks:

Your enquiry Re South Kilburn vs Guernsey refers.

Please forgive me Lord for I have sinned, or can I still call you Graham ?

I had a Pint of Fosters in the Wembley Clubhouse prior, honestly there was no alternative !

I was Carlees and attended the Game with the intention of going to Romford Ice Hockey at 17.15, a most inconvenient time but practical this day. Unfortunately (said in the nicest possible way) I bumped into Paul White who I had previously met at the hOval, home of Cricket and was persuaded to go to North Greenford. I rest my case.

There are six differant Posters on this Match, but for the record can add some Info which may, or may not be of interest to others !

South Kilburn Floodlights will not be fixed this Season, but are "hopeful" for next, so no late kick offs. Further, the adjacent Pitch where the "Hop" Hellenic Game was played was in use for a 14.30 Ko, but no time to enquire as to who/what. Don't remember noticing before a rather large overhanging Tree on the Halfway Line, surely against League Rules !

As to Guernsey, spoke with their Secretary prior to the Game, didn't realise till later that he was an elder brother of Matt le Tiss, unlike the other brother, he looks nothing like him !

He advised that any visitors to the Island would be unlikely to find any Senior Mens Games on a Sunday, usually Youth and Reserve, but Friday nights were most likely. Further, contrary to previous rumour, the Island Games in Bermuda in 2013 are now likely to include Football, any Players interested in Playing there are now saving up to £2,000, being the probale/likely cost per person, if selected !

Note for Yorkie; the young Lady with the strident voice travelled over with the Team
