dorking fc, the shocking reality.

Many thanks pete I'll wear it with pride to away games

Surely he hasn't given you his old athletic support ?

He's been trying to find a good home for that for weeks now !

well since my last words of encouragement the mighty chicks seem to have taken their foot off the pedal.

a one nil defeat at home to bottom placed croydon was a sign, but a one all draw with the nomad's epsom and ewell and district xi is a siren!

John Mcbrides penalty save notwithstanding our highlight in the last 3 hours of football is probably a well taken pen of our own.

However this all pales into insignifignance when the shocking news gets delivered : no BJR at the match, and so how the blue blazes did the sold out sign get put up against the asahi?

BIT HARSH MATE. consider we were without our trusted midfield trio, oliver duffell mccann all missing! three big players for the club, all things considered i thought we were the better team. i dont think thats rose tinted glasses either.progress? not that long ago epsom would have rolled into town, done a job and gone away with three points.progress indeed!!!!

buckers since i posted all was wonderful the points have stopped rolling in so I thought Id redress the balance!

try not to bite straight after the game TRS said it was a poor game, a valid view from someone who watches a lot of football.

on reflection, we have had more highlights last two games than the pen save. sorry, Ill withdraw that remark.

However, when I say they are warning signs I believe Im right.

Things look better than for a very long time at Meadowbank, the league position is encouraging.

We have some very good players at the club.

When I say "take the foot off the pedal" I dont mean the players, but is the desire or the capacity there at the club to build on this and crack on, or is the middle of the coco still this years target?

We dont look like we are going to be bottom three, although we have plenty of tough fixtures left, we cant expect to win the league so the pressure is off.

So is it time to settle this side down, introduce some u18s and consolidate in mid table, acepting a few moans on here when a couple of bad home results occur, or does the club look to the next few seasons, to challenge at the top end and get the infrastructure in place so it can attract and keep the best local players, adding quality from further away to areas we may be short?

Whats the plan? Should we spend to get a goalscorer to clock up a few points and smiles, or should we create a plan that the town knows and may get behind, to get a pitch that players are confident on and can pass, to improve facilities to fund it?

Just a brief update, and thanks for everyones concern.

I hal already decided not to attend the Epsom game as my wife and I had afternoon appointments of a non-footy nature, and by the time we arrived home, it was early tea and bed.

I haven't been 100% fit for a few days whilst undergoing some serious deep dental work and developing an allergy to a temporary crown fitting.

Thankfully, things seem to be returning to normal.

For those of you that like to keep in touch with my rambles, I am liasing with Bookham on Saturday and will be meeting the Guernsey team bus at around 11:00-ish and making sure the Donkeys get to see a little of historic Dorking, (probably pubs !).

Hows that for inter-club co-operation ?

Good shout Mr Spurs Fan

Considering the club for the last few years have been in the bottom three i do think this year there is progression. To hear people being dissapointed that Dorking are a mid table side is for me a sign of how far in a short time the club has come. I agree with you for any club to achieve long term improvement you need to make sure there is a plan to mirror the long term ambitions rather than throw money at a short term fix. I agree the under 18s are very important and at this level local talent must be used but saying that whatever you may think money and local support are key to this. The pitch does need working on as at the moment its as rough as Duffs rear and as we like to play a bit rather than just lump it forward it would be great to have a nice pitch but again that will take some cash. Buckers is working harder than you would believe on trying to get things where they need to be but considering the state the club was in when he took over it will take a bit of time. The main aim this year is to be competitive, organised and as professional as possible on the field whilst trying to get a structure in place off the field that will allow the club to progress. There is a long way to go and a lot of hard work needed but its already been worthwhile as i got the thumbs up from Smudge last week and you got the beers in Saturday!!!!!!!!!! So its consolidation this year and find some cash to make the improvements needed both on and off the pitch i think we need to employ someone to head this up and make it happen for us ...............Jobs yours mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well said Hurdy,

I think you and Bucks are doing a great job and considering last year this season has already been a success. I know that both of you wont get complacent and you will be pushing your team all the way this year. Success doesnt happen overnight and some people need to realise that however you are well on your way. I personally think that a mid table finish will be a great job for you guys this year however there is no reason why you cant make higher. I wish you all the best for the rest of the year and hopefully Hurdy will get a nice bonus at the end of the year for that much needed hair transplant :D ;)

thank you! we are a "work in progress" something that does go un-noticed is the fact we do not have a reserve team, making it very difficult to keep a large squad happy, for the obvious reason if you are not starting, or worse still, dont make the squad we cant offer them 90 mins in the reserves, its an achievement in itself to have retained all last years squad and added a couple of new faces, and in the main, a happy, honest bunch of lads, 14 of which are local! how many years since that has been a fact at dorking? this being reflected now with home attendences, me and steve bounce well off each other and share the same outlook, mid table and beyond being the target this season, as for the hair transplant, no.. i will buy him a hat instead!!!!!!!!!!! bucks.
