NONSENSE ! Guernsey are a far better side than Jersey. If you would have seen our last game against them you would have seen us hit the bar post, and miss many chances. Jersey scored a last minute equiliser then won on pens 3-0 ! We really should have won this game 5-0 at least. Fair play to Jersey though they rode their luck and won. We have won the island games football title twice to Jerseys ZERO !. To say Jersey are better than us is ill informed and ludicrous !

You would do well to get a team out of Breqou, seeing as only the Barclay Brothers live there who are 134 y o but would love to have thier money....lol

The story about them wanting to go down the international route is true. And of course failing to do so due to regulations.

 

Not sure if they'll consider this route now, I think they have a bigger local league system than us and maybe happy with that. Though if we keep doing well and then go and thump them in the Muratti they may change their mind!

 

With their current egg chasing side going strong in the national Rugger leagues it's not like we'll beat them at that any time soon, then again their team are made up mostly of paid pro's from outside of Jersey.

Their teams are often stonger, they also have two divisions. They also have more imported players too.

Things may be a changing in the land of the Toad (Jersey). Current President of the JFA Ricky Weir is retiring and his likely replacement has not ruled out a Jersey team competing in the non league setup. Providing they can get the finances and can make it sustainable. The Jersey Rugby Club have had fantastic success and have reached the 2nd tier of Rugby, some achievment. But that has been done with a large pot of money as they have a number of Professionals in ther ranks. But this shows what COULD happen if Jersey got involved. They are a richer island than Guernsey so the potential is there.

 

However even if the JFA President is all for it I am not sure if they will get the green light. The setup is different overthere as the JFA is a totally seperate body from the League (Jersey Football Combination) and I am not sure that the local clubs will be happy to see all the best players join a Jersey "national" side... But after being outplayed in the Muratti things might be changing over there..........

What sort of crowds do games between guernsey & jersey attract,do you have names for opposing clubs,ie this banter Thingy that smudge likes?

 

Jersey call us Donkeys ( which we don't mind, lol ) and we call them Crapauds, French for Toads lol !

 

One of the songs you will hear us sing at away games is - I'd rather be a Donkey than a Toad ! :lach:
