Guernsey v Sheerwater

Recommended Posts

shame you got a few seconds before and after the keeper's push on our player masie!

silly thing to do from their lad.

For those not there, the ball was loose on edge of 6 yard box and as you see often the striker went in for the ball, keeper gets it first and our player probably clipped the keeper, the ball was there to be won and bar it being a foul there was nothing wrong.

keeper got up went over to the GFC player and pushed him over.

A bit unneccesary but i think the ref did the right thing in just booking him while i did hear someone shouting "you bottled it ref". i've seen reds given (on tv) for this kind of thing but would have been a bit harsh.

He made some great saves in the second half by the way, very quick reactions to palm a few away

FF, would be interesting to know where you were stood for this incident. There was no 'probably' about the player going in on the keeper who has the mark on his chest to prove it. Fair enough he had the right to go for it and was slightly late, but a bit dangerous. Our keepers reaction was not the right way to deal with it either and I agree the referee dealt with it correctly.

Sorry I didnt get time to pop over and say hi Maisie, I will tag the photos when I get a chance to look through them.

Saw GD in the stand waving, nice to put a face to a name and after the game yesterday I can see why you have the confidence you have of your team.

I have to say how impressed I was from start to finish of how this whole trip played out. GFC will look after every club that goes over and I can not fault a single thing about what they have set up for us.

As for the game, we did ourselves proud even after the final score. There is not a team in this league or the Prem that will beat GFC on their patch unless they decide to field a weaker team. Strength in depth, as they had a couple out but replaced with similar quality. Fitness of a conference side and movement and ability to match anyone I have seen in the Ryman League. I watched them against Westfield and obviously yesterday and can only say that they are getting stronger and I fear for the next teams to travel there. I can rest assured that that will not be GFC's biggest win this season, mark my words (you heard it here first :P ).

On a personal level I am proud of our players(and I know Cookie and Hillsy are too) as for the first half we were excellent, GFC got their first goal after a mistake and being so clinical they punished us. The second goal came on the stroke of half time after we didnt clear the ball quick enough. We managed to get 6 or 7 shots off albeit from outside the 18 yard box. Half time came and went and so did our stamina, if you are going to compete with GFC you will have to be super fit. I think GFC must of been put out by our efforts in the first half and completed took over the second half and three goals in 4 minutes showed how brutal thay can be at this level. End result 9-0, could have been more, our keeper was our man of the match and as I have said before, I fear for future teams going there. If you are lucky enough for GFC to rest players for their trips to you then that will be your only hope.

Some nice comments coming back to us from the supporters including 'first half, you are probably the best side we have played against but fitness levels won the game in the second half' and 'we have seen enough ref, we don't want 10, they don't deserve it'. ;)

I wish all at GFC the best for the future, a great experience that I take pleasure from being part of. See you at ours in January.

Nice pics. I spotted Young Veteran in one.

I hoped I'd get him in a pic, hope he will tag himself then.

I also met Guernsey Donkey today, he only sits in the row behind me and a couple of seats along, small world.

Cant tag for some reason Maisie!!!

YV,

I was lucky enough to get over for the game yesterday and you couldn't sum itup any better great report, you guys did yourselves proud first half even at 2-0 down like you say a couple of silly mistakes which GFC will punish anyone.

They were missing 3 first teamers in Rihoy,Dyer, and Warren but Luke Winch played a blinder on the right flank, and they won't concede many if any on thier patch.

Thier fitness levels are amazing they are well below thier level but everyone has to start somewhere and that is no disrespect to the teams in this league.

I was very proud of the Guernsey Lions today but I thought the 9-0 scoreline flattered us. The tactics Sheerwater employed in the first half an hour (pressure us on the ball and make it scrappy and open) worked a treat but we all knew that they couldn't keep up that kind of tempo. They didn't create too many opportunities and when they tired Guernsey took control. I thought the Sheerwater centre backs had a cracking game though, especially their big number 4. He was magnificent throughout and the score would have been much more if it wasn't for him. He can feel very proud of himself tonight and he would be a major asset to us in our squad. Fancy moving to Guernsey mate? :)

The attacking play from Guernsey was quite astounding though at times though and there were a few cracking memorable goals and another hat-trick from Ross Allen. The man is a goal machine. The pace and fitness levels that we display are truly awesome and the poor Sheerwater team were shattered at the end.

A cracking game and another 1400 plus crowd. Come on you Lions!!!!!

I read all your posts out to the boys last night to help cheer them up a bit so thank you all for your praise.

Our centre half was about the town last night telling everyone how he bleeds green and that he is Guernsey through and through. He will not be signing though as we need him ;)

young Vetran: I thought he had caught him but couldn't be certain. I was in a reasonable position to see though directly to the side of where the incident occurred (hockey pitch side).

Wouldn't dwell on it anyway as agreed, our player was right to be going for ball but obviously it didn't go right for him as he caught keeper. Keeper was brilliant during the rest of the game anyway

Could somebody clarify if Sheerwarer's keeper was the same fella who played in goal when Knaphill played here (Guernsey). It certainly looked like him! If it was, I'm sure he won't want to visit again, the poor chap has shipped 14 goals in 2 matches. And played well in both games.

I can confirm Tony Davis played in goal for Knaphill and was transferred back to Sheerwater after leaving at the end of last season and played in goal yesterday.

as a player for Sheerwater i would just like to say it was a great experience. it was a pleasure to watch the football Guernsey play, being up top for Sheerwater i had a lot of time to admire the football lol. would have been nice for my second half shot to sneaked in but the keeper pulled off a great save to be fair i could not have put it anymore in the corner if i tried. the respect is well deserved for everybody at Guernsey fc. the fact that the complete squad and staff showed no arrogance or cockiness towards the result. i even got a good bit of banter from the crowd due to running of the pitch to collect the ball and slipping straight onto my back to a rather big cheer and also the divet i had to replace after a tackle. over all good experience shame we were not fitter to compete for longer in the game. 30 mins i thought we gave you a good game but that's all we had in the tank at the intense pace that was set from the off.

Respect mate, I was one of those who enjoyed seeing you put the divot back in :-)Total respect that despite the score you all played on to the end, no heads down.

Obviously I'm extremely happy and can't add much more to it lol

I think fitness and morale told in the end. Some sheerwater players were dead on their feet at the end and once the fourth or fifth went in it seemd like that had given up

Good tactics by our visitors early on to press and close down but that was never going to happen for the full 90

A thoroughly enjoyable day for a Guernsey point of view!

Fair play fella,

Not the best to go a$$ up in front of a 1000 people on the main stand eh ! i watched you give your all and you personally chased every ball lost cause or not you did yourself proud.

As many have reported myself included you were all fantastic for 30 mins or so but alas it wasn't to be second half i think you can take heart from your performance well done.
