Is the CCL cup game to be played at Dorking or Bookham?

Thanks - Dorking makes it easier when it comes to getting a train down anyway.

Do you know the 'quick' way to Meadowbank if you're walking to the ground.

I'll pm you with details if not, jertzee

No, I have no idea what the quick way to the ground is...when I went before I stopped off down the high street for a beer or two...

Does the clubhouse have a dartboard btw??

I spoke to a few of my Lammas lads this week and they can't believe how bad the pitch is at Dorking, I really think something needs to be done as somebody will get really hurt soon. If a club cannot provide a safe playing surface then the games should not be played.

Whats your take on it N.G.WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE GOT IT FROM YOU first.

Could it be that they're not very good ! Maybe loss of players, if so why, maybe 'cos relegated ? could be under bad management ??? I'm not a follower of Bookham so I am not the right person to ask Smudgeyboy, but you follow Div 1 clubs so pray let me hear your thoughts oh righteous one.....mmmnnn... hence my genuine question to Tefs ........

NG, don't normally post on this forum however reading your post thought I'd give you an honest assessment being involved with Bookham.

You are quite right in that as you'd expect from a relegated side we lost nine of last seasons 1st team squad, five to Epsom and Ewell, two to Dorking, one to South Park and one who has ceased playing as he concentrates on boxing. This obviously meant a summer of rebuilding for the club.

This pre season has seen the management work tirelessly to strengthen the squad and in many aspects they have achieved that signing in my opinion some decent players many of who are also very young (we have eight 18 year olds in the 1st team squad). We had a very good pre season, losing just one friendly and were hopeful we could have a good season, though the club were under no illusions that Division 1 would in many aspects, be just as strong as he Premier we were just removed from.

Some early season turmoil behind the scenes just as the season started saw us play a considerably weakened squad in the first few games though that situation has been sorted now. We'd be lying if we said we aren't disappointed with results, however with the exception of the Hartley Witney game where we were truly awful, we have been in many games including a credible draw away at VCD Athletic in the FA Cup from a level above us.

So above hopefully you have some rationale to where we currently are though we make no excuses, we could and should have done better. With a really young squad we know that some need to be given time. A good example was against Staines in midweek, where on the bobbly pitch overplaying cost us two goals, which wasn't the first time trying to overplay on that surface has cost us. We had six players missing against Staines tuesday night though still felt we equipped ourselves well. In my view we are a side that can play, though having lost three strikers from last season, we have struggled to find the goals that sometimes our play deserves and still we have no true out and out striker at the club.

We're very committed to improving results, today will be a real test and with 7 players missing because of work and injury Eversley will be a really tough game.

BEFORE I START, this is NOT a bite. Just putting the record straight.

I will agree the playing surface might be slightly 'irregular', and we are doing all we can to resolve the situation. You really need to know the history of where the pitch stands.

During WWII, it was a heavily guarded coal dump. After the war, the council turned it over to a general waste disposal tip, and being the end of the war, a lot of sh1t was dumped there.

When DFC moved there, we inherited what the council had left.

We would love to rip the whole pitch up and re-lay, putting in drainage and sprinkling system, (a la Windsor), but finances just ain't there. The land-lord/owner of the ground is M.V.D.C. and our lease runs for another 10 years (approx).

We all know it is like the Sahara in the summer and the Somme in the winter. The drainage is atrocious, and there are only certain weather conditions when we can actually put a heavy roller over the pitch. Even then, it seems to revert to it's usual shape after a week or two, by which time the weather has changed and a heavy-roller is out of the question.

I, and most at Meadowbank would be the first to agree the surface ain't brilliant, but we have to make the most of what we've got.

Incidently, I could mention 'faults' with a lot of pitches in the non-league structure, but that's not my way !

Well, when the DFC team and Officials arrived back at Meadowbank after a 0-1 win away at Sandhurst, this particular post was discussed in great detail !

Love it B.J.R.the whipping boys for so long, now you can compete on the pitch, the knockers arrive.Bit like the Arena,no one can find there way there, the atmosphere is awful, but never a mention of one of the best playing surfaces in the C.C.L..Smudges take on life never knock decent genuine people,as it will come back and haunt you.UP THE BUCKERS.

Big JR I disagree that you can not do more with the pitch, the pitch is dangerous and for a long time it has not been up to scratch, in fact it is only 7 weeks into the season and the pitch is shot so what's it going to be like when the bad weather comes, I'm not having ago at your club, I'm genuinely concerned that somebody will get hurt, one thing I would suggest is to get somebody like Nut250 to come down once a month and do the pitch. He's not expensive and his advice and planning for your to have a safe and improving playing surface is second to none.

Every club has financial problems but the players safety must come first and if you use the right people it's not that expensive in the long run and will help you attract players if you have a good playing surface.

Good luck B Jr for rest of the season.

We intend to keep doing all we can, but at the end of the day, the Referee and his assistants 'walk' the pitch whilst discussing their tactics long before kick off, and at the end of the day they can call the match off at our expense if they so wish.
