FA Vase Second Qualifying Round

3 2 Hoddesdon Town v Berkhamsted

A report on this one from another's Forum:

Hoddesdon Town 3-2 Berkhamsted

FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round

Admission: £5

Programme: £1.50 (many step 6 sides will have less content in theirs over the entire season)

Tea: 60p

Attendance: ~70

Parking a bit hard to find on the road outside the ground, sadly that didn't mean they were all here for the game. Friendly club which shares the site with the cricket club; the pitches are adjacent with no overlap. Just the one stand, a decent size and mainly seats. Clubhouse by the cricket pitch with a well stocked tea bar.

Entertaining game too. Berkhamsted started the brighter, and should have done better with a few chances. Hoddesdon created a bit, mainly from long range. They did have the best of the middle third going 3-0 up. The first a penalty after a striker brought down by the keeper, the second a few minutes later which looked like a cross to the far corner curled in. A tap in after rounding the keeper ten minutees after the break stretching the lead further. The visitors woke up, did scramble two back from close range and had two good efforts saved by the home keeper (the last six minutes into injury time). They also hit the woodwork twice, once in each half. Deserved result for Hoddesdon.

And I'm still to finish reading the programme.

FA Vase Second Qualifying Round

0 3 Codicote v Biggleswade United (at Biggleswade United)

A report on this one from another's Forum:

FA Vase - Second Round Qualifying

Codicote 0 Vs. 3 Biggleswade United (Played at Biggleswade United)

Admission: £5

Attendance: c30

This match was the best I could do having finished work at 1400. The other option would've been Haringey in the Vase, but I wanted to see a game with teams from different leagues. This was supposed to be played at the Gosling Stadium in Welwyn Garden City, where Codicote share with Hatfield Town, but (according to the programme) the SSML wouldn't agree to re-arrange/move Hatfield's home game for the same date, so the tie had to be switched to Biggleswade.

The first half was a scrappy affair with lots of poor control and mistimed tackles. Biggleswade led 1-0 at the break, but the referee should've stopped play for a foul on a Codicote defender. Codicote had the better of the chances and despite this being Step 7 Vs. Step 5, there really wasn't much between the teams.

I was beginning to think I was heading for one of my dullest games of the season, but the second half picked up. Both teams tried to play football and Codicote rained down on the Biggleswade goal with chance after chance. They were very unfortunate not to score at all. Biggleswade increased their lead to 2-0 after a calamatious error by the Codicote goalkeeper and then made it 3-0 after some poor defending. Even at 3-0, Codicote had chances, but they couldn't find the goal that they so deserved.

So, a decent game in the end, there were a couple of incidents though. Biggleswade have themselves a morbidly obese thick man for their biggest fan. I've seen him on my other visit to their ground - all he does is give constant abuse to the away (or in this case the home - Codicote) dugout. His rationale is moronic and it's like listening to a five year old arguing. The name calling is pathetic.

Almost as bad was the Codicote manager/assistant manager (the older of the two giving orders). He was plenty stupid and unreasonable. The two were made for eachother, but it was extremely childish.

I was disgusted when I witnessed the other half of the Codicote management team urinating up the outside of the dugout - twice. Okay, the toilets are in the clubhouse, but he could've pushed open the emergency exit next to the dugout and gone in the field outside. Nobody needed to witness that, much less have to walk through it to get out.

FA Vase Second Qualifying Round

2 1 Reading Town v Aylesbury United (aet)

http://www.aylesburyunitedfc.co.uk/

A brief report on this one from another's Forum:

Reading Town 2-1 Aylesbury United - aet - FA Vase Second Qualifying Round

Admission £6 including programme. Attendance 90ish.

An unexciting game that only had a lively 15 minutes just before half-time which saw two Aylesbury players replaced due to head injuries and a goal to each side. Extra time was endured and Reading took the tie with Ray Spence's second goal, fitting as he was the best player on the pitch. Basic setup with an off-the-peg stand nearly on halfway and decent cover behind one goal, but the whole site cries out for a good tidy-up.

PTG, thanks for that. Our program is always a talking point, especially for Rhodes. I know he likes it as he used to photocopy pages from it and shove them in the Kentish Town prog!!

I don't think it was sarcasm. Consistently voted best prog tells me that pete was spot on in his summary.

So thanks..... :)

Many clubs have tried to top the Hoddesdon Town programme in the past but failed

Like Kentish Town did in 2006/2007 you mean

Kentish Towns prog that year WAS Hoddesdons program cliffy!! Cone on now, you're not gonna deny that you blatantly photocopied pages directly from our award winning effort and stapled them directly into yours, are you....?? I still have the proof!!
