Ash v Windsor

I agree Lord Nelson the performances overall have been disappointing the South Park and Dorking games were dire and the game at Croydon wasnt much better! Maybe we've been spoilt over the last couple of seasons with the title winning side and last seasons team which i thought was really starting to play some great football! I think Smudge is right too! This league is a lot stronger than a lot of people think!!! We will have to be a lot better on Saturday as Flackwell Heath are a good side!!!

this league has clearly been under-estimated, as we still dont seem to have a settled formation and players are still playing out of position. there seems to be a genuine lack of width at times and despite his pace and ability i dont believe yash romeo's best position is on the wing, he plays a lot better when up front in a pairing with ryan.

as for the goal in the ash game, i thought it at the time, and having seen the video, i dont put any blame onto bully at all. the guy that scores is unmarked, and thus unchallenged and any one would and should expect to score should such a chance come their way. it's more of a defensive set up error where someone isnt picking the guy up, rather than bully making the error. bully has saved windsor, and the past w+e, too many points to be used as a scapegoat when those in front of him make mistakes!

matt- you are wrong- any ball that is six-eight yards out in the centre of goal is a goalkeepers and interestly appartently, according to players, Bully has stated it was his fault. He has saved us and will do so again as he is a top class guy- but that doesnt absolve him from blame- He is at fault. How can you say the league is understated? Time and time again , I have heard people in the club talk about the need not to underestimate the league and I believe that they mean it? IWhy do you think otherwise and what supports it. Please dont just say results as I remember losing as WEFC to Aylesbury/Bracknell and Truro in a week and only Truro were decent? Look what happened when the manager got the time and put it right- a league and cup! Defensive errors will happen but we have lost two goals in five games and had three clean sheets? Frankly it just seems that nothing is good enough- time will tell who is right I suppose.

I don't know why the subject of pitches has been raised.

Yes - Stag Meadow is probably far superior to most teams in the CCL Prem.

For those of you who haven't visited Dorking before, just let me say that the 'Meadowbank-Bobble' is world famous. Not a pitch I'd recommend long ball-play on.

1, i can agree that a ball into that area should in most cases be the goalkeepers, but if there is no call, which u cant hear in the video, the defence must still do its job and pick up each and every man regardless so that in a case where the keeper does not come to claim for whatever reason, the situation can still be dealt with. just to blame the keeper for the goal at ash seems somewhat ludicrous when the guy that scores is not being marked! i would argue that blame should fall on whoever is meant to be marking the player, as much as upon bully.

2. under-estimated. people talk about it but doing something about it is completely different. personally i think it would be arrogant to say that the club has not under-estimated this league. talk about bad pitches, different formations every week, different playing styles shows this. there seems to be no consistency. to say to ignore results is somewhat ridiculous as well, after all football is a results business and results so far have in the majority been very very disappointing.

3. the excuse of the team only being together so long is wearing very thin. if the players are good enough, and i have no doubts the majority of them are, then can play formations and gel in a period of two months.

4. pitches at this level are not going to be like stag meadow, so why constantly complain about them. windsor as a club must win on any kind of pitch if they are to get promoted and win cups. so surely there shouold be a style of play that suits the players on the pitch for any particular playing surface.

5. in terms of being happy i believe that most teams at windsor in the last 10-15 years have attempted to play a good fluent standard of football, even in the sides that struggled under Simon Lane, Dave Carroll etc the players still attempted to play a good brand of football and i cant help but feel that the current side isnt doing that in my opinion. it is perhaps important to remember that windsor and eton existed for a lot longer than the last 3 years before this season, as that seems to be all you focus upon.

Matt and Calamity Dave this is like watching an enjoyable tennis match at Wimbledon with the ball being hit from one side of the net to the other. However, it feels like the score isn't shifting from 40-40 in this crucial 5th set decider. So, tomorrow we are away at Flackwell Heath in the FA Vase how about you both sit down over a beer and discuss, after all we are all supporters and everyone has the right to their opinions, the beauty of football. I am happy to play the umpire role! Surely that's better than continue playing this 'set' out over the forum! Calamity Dave - not many of us are aware who you are, everyone on here, apart from me seems to like using unique forum id's, but i'm sure we'll recognise faces and it'll be a case of "oh didn't realise it was you!". So come and introduce yourself tomorrow and I'll introduce you to Matt and you two can have a great debate over a beer! If you're not there tomorrow I'm sure we can hook you up with Matt at the midweek home game. I'm sure we can have you both being 'doubles' partners in no time at all!

Well Michael, I like the tennis analogy....bit surprised people haven't worked out or rather got a good idea who CD is yet? Anyway, I think we are worrying too much about the standard of football produced so far. It will get better over the next few weeks and hoepfully we can climb the table accordingly.

Hope to see you all at Flackwell tomorrow.

Glad to see Sumdgey and Big JR are still in contact (Smudgey - when you next get to Windsor I will get you a beer as a thank you for those directions).

It’s like a game of Ping-Pong. Dave can ping and Matt can pong!

However it’s great to see debate on the forum and not have it stifled like it is on some other local teams forums.

Getting back to the subject I have to say it’s been slightly disappointing to hear the "pitch" excuse trotted out already. At the end of the day this is step5 and people have to accept that some/most of the pitches will be somewhat less than flat.

Sometimes you just have to accept that the other side deserved the result. Hopefully this season doesn’t turn into a repeat of WEFC's first season in the south/west division under Simon Lane when every week the excuse was "the pitch" "the ref" "the other teams are out to get us". Even those of us who stuck up for Simon got fed up in the end.

wow what a lovely analogy that is right there! would have preferred to ping rather than pong mind!!

i agree with that point, the way the excuses are coming out does tread dangerously close to the times of Simon Lane when just about everything was at fault for the side not getting results! like i said in a previous post i believe we have been quite poor in a few games this season and it would be nice if people could admit that focus on solving the issues rather than just looking for excuses. I believe stag meadow is the best playing surface around at this level and every other pitch is going to be poor. That being said though, poor pitches doesnt prevent other local sides from picking up points, Binfield and Ascot in the Hellenic for example, or Beaconsfield are picking up lots of points and we all know how bad that pitch is!

Heres to hoping for a massively improved performance tomorrow at Flackwell and a decent run in the Vase

I am just thankful that there is football to watch at Stag Meadow this season. I am also enjoying the new grounds to visit with the obvious exception of one that I have been to and one to come. What is good to see is that no-one has questioned the commitment or effort put in by the players.

Smudge has. But then he's an idiot.

It's actually usually good to read the opinions of supporters of other teams but am I alone in finding this Smudge character a somewhat irritating presence?

Dripping negative smugness at every opportunity.

Seriously man, we are quite capable of providing our own eyes-open negativity without your observations.

SIMPLE ANSWER,They have to have an excuse, for not being good enough,to beat sides.

And just how many games have you seen Windsor play this season? As far as I know, it would be just the one where the referee warned you for coaching from behind the goal. Perhaps after you have seen Windsor play more often, witnessed with your own eyes rather than make judgement from pure invention, then maybe you would be worth taking note of. It would seem that your have a bizarre obsession with every other club within the CCL. Your inane ramblings about Guernsey on the main CCL Forum are tedious to the extreme. Perhaps you should get out more and give your keyboard a bit of a rest.

FTR Sparksy, I do have a sense of humour. But constant sniping and chirping from a keyboard warrior can be tedious. I would much rather spend an afternoon at Ash Utd listening to Chas than reading anything that Smudge has posted.
